My recollection was that he wanted the assurance of a second year. Understandable given our track record with coaches turnover during that era. When he didn't get it, he walked. The coaches that followed him didn't exactly cover themselves in glory but, to give them their due, the Club hardly helped them either. Also understandable given that the Club was seriously broke.
I still say that Northey stuffed up and he is on record saying he did. he had to back himself in and get it done. Still cant understand why he would leave a PF team. Mind boggling actually.

I understand what he's doing and why, and I believe its ambitious and absolutely necessary for us to move forward. Everyone wants him to take risks and when he does, there's melts as it isnt paying off instantly
Risks and stupis decisions are completwly different to me and yes that is my opinion.

We are playing to many mediocre recycled duds and we are playing essendon style mediocre footy, you figure it out.

Happy to go with your recollections. You were closer to the action than me.

our players are lacking skills and confidence. Plus, he doesnt have a good plan b or try to change match ups. Yesterday's game was just awful.

I don't where thats gone, he would at times last year albeit inconsistently

This year I havent seen any plan b especially after the last 3 matches. Stubborn coach, no flexibility or depth.

i know we only see it for like 1 minute out of 120 but every shot in the box looks like he's just getting progressively pissed off like we all are at home instead of "coaching". If he at least TRIED to change something then I wouldn't begrudge him as much. He must have given a spray at half time yet where was that at Qtr time?

I can see what he is doing and it's never going to work. Mixing the 07-09 cats with the current Hawks.

Two problems, Collingwood dismantled the cats game plan in 2010 and our kicking is currently not good enough to replicate the Hawks.

So basically we are playing a hybrid game plan where half has been picked apart and half we are not good enough to pull off.

Maybe we could do it if our kicking improved, but our players are worse kicks now then when we drafted them. I find completely lacking that (I think we don't anyway) employee a bio-mechanics expert. Honestly not sure which clubs outside the Hawks do but they've done since 05 or 06 and it shows.

Northey didn't get sacked he left, with a year to run on his contract.
Northey was being paid peanuts and asked for a pay rise on the back of some of the best coaching I've seen at Richmond in 30 years.
I don't wanna argue bout last century that was a genuine premiership window that closed up quicker than a fishes u know what

We started better in the 3rd Q but why do our players struggle to maintain that intensity and control throughout the match. We play well for 2mins and then back to errors.

lack of focus, they started to pressure us again and of course the wheel fell off the bus again. There's something seriously wrong down at Tigerland

No, he wanted a second year instead of just the next year, not specifically a pay rise. He could've backed himself in and chose not to. He would've had Richo to work with too. He has stated it was wrong.

Again, I would only do this if we have a Better coach in waiting (what a weasely little word Better is)
You'll never know. Malthouse was better than Ratts, Clarko came from nowhere, Chris Scott came in untested, who knew if Beveridge could coach, Buckley untested. If you want guarantees your probably in the wrong game. Dimma was good till he got found out in 3 finals. Sometimes that half step back is changing the coach and your right theres no guarantees in this but he's had 3 crap starts to the last 3 years. 3 pathetic finals performaces. This isn't a romance novel it's footy and footy is tough and cruel. But if you don't try everything you can within the rules you get nowhere. So if we go for Dew or Ratts or Ayres, I understand there are no guarantees, but after last nights coaching Riewoltd in backline Chaplin forward then rucking. Hunt 4 Miles I think Dimma will do more damage than good to the playing list especially the young ones.

Heard it all in this thread
" I don't want to replace DH if we get a ship coach"
Firstly how could we get someone poorer than DH ?
Secondly why would the people have this doubt with the clubs criteria section? Wouldn't we be looking for a better option as any Auskick coach would be a significant upgrade?
Thirdly why would you continue employ an incompetent fool if he's going to run the team to the ground, continue to humiliate the RFC brand at pressers and cost us millions in lapsed sponsorship , membership and crowd drop offs
Finally people on here who still have an inkling that DH is a coach are deluded as he's nothing more than a long standing apologetic accountant with some basic care taking skills.

See I do not understand this rationale.

Do we not need to improve our list?

Its a great opportunity. Keep the cash and go to China I say!!!:thumbsu:

In 3-4 years we should be a lot stronger and players have something to play for!!!

We may as well go to China as I pretty sure our game plan is discussed in Chinese.

mentioned it before, but No chance Ratts comes to us

A club with a history of knifing coaches - FFS we want to knife the current one for this bloke! - will not inspire him with confidence of job security after how Carlton treated him. IMO he'd be hesitant to come to any club that has a knifing history

What are you taLiking about 3 coaches in 17 years, check Essendon, carltons, st kilda freo etc in that time, it's not the 80 s

And that is the reason the idiots that run the club have got them and us into this mess, embracing mediocrity for the sake of stability

Ill restate my opinion on the coach once more. I will back him in so long as there is no better alternative, if all those in the #sackdimma camp want me to take them seriously then they need to provide alternatives to Dimma other than "Anyone" and i'd side with them. All the melting over the coach does nothing

Plenty of names been tossed about, but none named Hardwick

Yet when you talk about clubs and firing coaches....who's name comes up? Richmond, Essendon, Carlton

the truth doesn't match the perception but its the perception that ultimately costs us
