Bumped Hardwick's pass mark

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

I'd rather we sign him now and get rid of the media heat.SEN already started their anti Richmond campaign on the radio.
Richmond need to fire bla bla bla ,last year of Hardwick's contract bla bla bla.

Hutchy and Barret will be all over Punt Road like two ferrets after a rabbit,if we start poorly.

Pass mark for me is better than last year.

10th.

Any lower than that and pressure will be on.

I think they will stick with him even if we go backwards. They will put it down to his education.

What do you do if you let him go???

Get another talked up assistant who has all the credentials that Hardwick had before taking on the job.

Go for another Messiah like Wallace

Risk putting coaches off taking the job and being left with someone like Frawley who will take anything regardless of whether he is twentieth choice.

Can anyone here give me a plausible alternative that will get us success faster?

That is just as important a question!

It might be just as important, but dude, how long is a piece of string? I mean, how on earth can you ask such a stupid question, when the question can only be answered if and when a plausible alternative is actually chosen and if and when that plausible alternative delivers at a rate that is less than the current rate of delivery.

FWIW, tipping that the current brains trust would have pencilled Dimma in as a coach who will stick around for a decade if not more, i.e. we need a tiger coach that will put his name near the likes , or better still up alongside the likes of Hafey. Lets just say Dimma is the first coach that we hired, after undergoing a thourough and exhaustive process to find one. Think that might be a pointer to what they "hope", Dimmas time at tigerland extends to. ;)

not sure where you get setting "safe" goals from.

To be successful you set your goals high, but achievable and you expect to achieve them.

If your handle is an indication of you age you may just remember the "what if close enough was good enough" adds that ran on the telly in the early 80's?

it still holds true.

if you set goals and you expect to achieve them.

Just falling short is not the end of the world but the goals you set are the benchmark, otherwise what's the point?

This depends upon what you consider your definition of "achievable" though.

For example, a student may be capable of getting a HD in an exam if they have good preparation and get the right questions on the day. The reality is however for most days this student is likely to get a D or a C because they always get a few questions they struggle with. Does this student though say "a D is an achievable goal, and this is what I should aim for"? Of course not, on their given day, they can achieve a HD, and this is what they should swing for. Sure its unlikely they will get their, but this should still be their aim.

Setting safe goals that are nice and easy to achieve discourages risk taking and ambition. If we want to truly succeed, we need to aim high.

As mentioned previously, I think it will take everything we've got, but finals are possible. This should therefore be our goal.

It was a joke mate. Sorry I forgot the stupid little smiley face to indicate that. My bad......

That said I don't think it's unreasonable for supporters to ask the question: "Why?" and let them answer it if we don't achieve the publicly stated aims. We haven't even missed the finals yet so what's all the bloody fuss about anyway. For the record, I think Hardwick will stay with or without finals and to this point has done a pretty good job.

Please see smiley face below to disarm anyone who could potentially get their back up at anything that I have just said:

:D

No problem mate, gotta love the smiley :D

You are right, and there is no problem with supporters asking questions, and the admin should be too. If Dimma doesn't make finals this year, we have failed to live up to the best of our potential. There may be reasons for this (i.e. injury to key players, other teams have a good run, etc), but it is important to confirm these reasons are legitimate, and not just shrug your shoulders and move on.

This though is a long way from the Tigers of Old attitude we had of sack first and ask questions later. As one poster has alluded to, the media is desperate for us to get back to that, and will provoke us at every opportunity. Dwaaaayne Russell has already started, and I expect the others to not be far behind. Club and supporters have to be strong enough to ignore those freaks though and not bite the bait.

The alternative does not need to be chosen dude. The alternative needs only to be suggested. To be plausible, it only has to make some reasonable sense dude. The suggestion has to only theoretically have to get us success faster not in reality. For example, if Brenton Sanderson was available, I would rate him a plausible alternative. Peter Rhode isn't.

So I don't think the question is stupid, just maybe your interpretation!:)

So how about informing the masses as the the theory behind say a Brenton Sanderson being a plausible alternative that will get us success faster.
Lets see, ummm, oh yeah has tasted success? has done the hard yards as an assistant under a successful coach? anything else that differentiates him from lets say our current coach? Hold on, he has a game plan that will deliver it faster, or he knows how to develop players better and faster?
So as you see the question is indeed stupid in real terms. ;)

Look mate, if you think the question is stupid, don't answer it. I thought theses whole boards are about theories and hypotheticals. So either ignore it or get off the board totally. The question is asked what Hardwick has to achieve to score a pass. I said an improvement in key areas with not necessarily ladder position. I then postulated for those who demanded a finals performance a logical alternative as coach. Who the hell is available to coach us if Hardwick is sacked?
Is that so difficult for your small mind to comprehend?
I don't think the question is stupid and I stand by it.
Sometimes when you are trying to be too clever you turn out to be a jerk. Give up the comedy, because sometimes you just ain't funny dude!

ok ok, I get the picture now and you can continue to postulate as you like dude. ;)

Hope Hardwick stays no matter what happens this year. Unless we finished bottom 4 I think he would deserve another season. The things that will create pressure are our first four games and also the fact one of the best coaches of the modern era and former tiger mick malthouse is sitting in the background.

However I don't think there is anyone better for the job and would happily see the club give him an extra 2 years now.

2 years would be excessive in my opinion for a coach who has still yet to prove anything in actual long term results. Happy to see 1 year added to his term before the season starts to quiet the media pack. 2 years and we could see what happened at Essendon to a Tiger great in Knights. The Bombers went to the top of my most hated clubs list because of that (they were second anyway) and they'll be staying there for a while I reckon.

I reckon DH would be happy to sign a 1 year extension with an option to a second year based on strict criteria just like players coming to an end of their careers sign. I don't do criteria so I'll leave it up to the right brain thinkers out there to speculate on what that criteria is. Thoughts?

Of course it is our goal, and therefore to pass, you must reach the goal.

It is an obtainable goal, (I'm still unsure where you get this safe goal stuff from), one that was set two years ago with a plan to obtain that goal.

So far from what we hear, the club is on track with their plan to reach the goal.

They set it, they plan to achieve it. That is the whole point of setting goals. The pass mark is reaching the goal you set.

No official pass marks from me. I'm happy with the new structure under Gale. Hardwick obviously has the players playing for him - that's all I need to see. 2012 is a season where we should see a slightly better overall performance. Stronger defence in terms of significantly fewer points against - we need to reduce that by at least 15-20 points per game on average, more consistency...and fewer floggings!! Not trying to be a party pooper but realisitically we're unlikely to see any significant improvement until 2013.

If we reduce points against by an average of 15-20 points a game, that is MASSIVE improvement for me and will see us play finals, comfortably.

Honest genuine opinions get labelled a troll!!! Then i'm a troll!

Well done, you're a quick learner. I'll give you one more chance. Happy posting:thumbsu:
