Traded Harley Balic [traded to Melbourne] [retired]

No mate. The club has shat the bed.

66 for Baltic I'd good. But reality is he will struggle to ever get close game.

Everything else we got rolled over and done dry. Watts for 31 is just dumb. I look forward to AVB helicopters over Hogans head....

The way you bleeding hearts cry you'd think JW was the only player to kick inside 50. Truth is JW wasn't getting enough of it to be truly effective

I agree we have efficiency issues but gud damn get over Watts

I don't understand why he picked us though especially with only a one year contract on the table?

I agree with you mate, I said this way earlier on in the thread. Good pick up in terms of his scope as a player but absolutely baffling considering it's not in Melbourne's requirements at all. Melbourne are looking like an overcooked rotisserie chicken - the wings are very, very dry.

Like Weller was?

Your history of posting regarding Fremantle is as repungent as a uni students stool following night of tandoori chicken and tequila.

retention of victorian players is amazing:
sherridan pick 16: rumours are he wants to go home, if anyone will take him
crozier pick 20: gone.
tanner smith pick 36: delisted.
apeness pick 17: looks cooked.
weller pick 13: gone.
langdon pick 54: rumours are he wants to go home, has interest
tucker pick 27: rumours are he wants to go home, if anyone will take him
balic pick 38: gone.
collins pick 55: delisted.

so in 5 years of drafting 9 victorian kids, 4 of which were taken with first rounders, only 4 are left. of that 4, 1 looks completely cooked injury wise and the other 3 sounds like they want to leave.

there's a theme here where freo retain them as long as their value is low and they don't have interested parties, but as soon as there interest from their home state, they're out.

would make the club nervous RE: cerra.

Got a source for these rumours? Or are they inside of your head?

sherridan was the un-named player seeking a trade out west that was covered before

saints fans know of the tucker one, given the connection

Melbourne has been pursuing Langdon for some time, although there is no suggestion the evasive ball-winner will seek a trade at season’s end.

Very first line of the article.....

And then you name two scenario's involving an "un-named player" and the other, "Saints fans know about it".

Seems legit

I only count three Victorian first round picks and two of those were taken after pick 15 in a draft that had already had 12 players preselected.

The other was pick #17.

If you're talking about the Tasmanian who lived on the gold coast for three years, he is the one Saints fans were sure was coming to them and he is playing like the #2 pick he was traded for.

Our games record holder is a South Australian, the next is a Victorian.

The test for a team on retention is whether a player is picked up elsewhere and getting games there once they leave Fremantle. Roberton is the one.

So let me get this right.

sherridan pick 16: still at Freo
crozier pick 20: WB asked if was available and thus traded mutually
tanner smith pick 36: why would a club retain him if he was deemed not good enough
apeness pick 17: still at Freo
weller pick 13: Not Victorian but still got us pick 2
langdon pick 54: still at Freo
tucker pick 27: still at Freo
balic pick 38: gone and yet to play AFL again
collins pick 55: see Tanner Smith

so in 5 years of drafting 9 victorians, one of them turned out to be a Tasmanian/Queenslander. 4 are still at the club, 2 were delisted but apparently we would have probably struggled to keep them, so lucky for us they forced us to delist them. 1 was traded to WB for more opportunities but would have stayed happily if he was going to be guaranteed a game. And the remaining player who admittedly I really wanted to keep (Balic) has yet to play AFL this year.

Good logic mate keep it up.

Hahaha Weller , yah overpaid that money sucker. Hopefully no more deal with Freo .

Can you twist this narrative anymore?

While I shouldn't feed your blatant trolling, let's tick them off. Retaining Victorian players is an interesting criteria, should we retain spuds on the list just because they are Victorian?
- Sheridan (compromised draft), given a 1 year deal due to our lack of depth. If no one offered him a deal last year, they sure as hell won't this year.
- Crozier (compromised draft), a nothing player who has continued his mediocrity with the Bulldogs.
- Tanner Smith, not AFL standard, why retain him?
- Apeness, we have retained..... so if he is cooked but we retain him according to you it is a retention?
- Weller, went home to St Kilda exactly as you predicted to join his brother. Fair enough, very disappointed in losing him back home to Victoria. He is killing it as well. Real shame we picked up another Victorian with the currency.
- Langdon, retained.....
- Tucker, retained.....
- Balic, requested a trade due to personal reasons. Would be a real shame to see him lost to the AFL system. Looked like he had a lot of talent. Not sure he has made his debut at Melbourne after signing a 1 year deal.
- Collins, not up to standard, why retain him?

You saying they want to leave doesn't make it true. Apart from when you were right about Lachie Weller going home after his first contract to play with his brother at St Kilda I would say your mail on anything Fremantle is nothing more than hoping our club will fail to take heat off St Kilda.

You have a very bizzare obession with seeing our club fail. It's cute.

read it again, there are 4 first round draft selections in that list.

No rational outside observer would conclude fremantle has an issue retaining Victorian players end of story.
Conflating delisted players, and PLAYERS STILL ON THE LIST, with retention problems makes you, if at all humanly possible, look a even bigger wally than normal.

who said anything about being forced to retain them?

all you should care about is the net result: are they playing good football for freo. if the answer is no: then its a bust and a bad draft selection.

lets see how it plays out for: sheridan, apeness, langdon, tucker, cerra, darcy.

lol
I could comment about the Saints, but I don't hate the Saints.

Seriously, build a bridge.

Fantasy team , anybody had any idea when Balic will debut for Melbourne.

What was the net result of turning pick 13 into 47 games and pick 2?

There is no guarantees with drafting 18yo kids, being a Saints supporter you really should understand this.
