Stupidly optimistic post here. HB could play for Peel next week or the week after. two or three weeks after that he *could* play for Freo.
How many Freo games does he need to play to earn another contract?

Half a dozen good games minimum in my opinion, and given only on merit.

There is no doubt he has to make it on the park this year. My main latest comments are directed at the mid season draft - it is pointless delisting HB mid year unless he has an injury ruling him out for a long term period (8+ weeks).

There is a lot of ifs and buts, however players have overcome injury issues in the past and had good careers, others have not, and we as a club know this very well.

I would say he needs to play a string of games together, and rested as required. If he can not make it back and string games together AND fit at end of year - this is the most important thing IMO. At the end of the year, if he is playing football and injury free then it is a no brainer - if he comes back and plays 10 games and gets injured you would resign him based on form - if he makes it back for 5 games and spends another 8 out - then time to move on.

I’ve been thinking about this whole HB situation.

I’m wondering if we could get a silver lining to assess independently the value our Sports and condition team or stop the thousands of posts on how terrible how S&C either way it’s a win.

So I suggest delist.

3 possible outcomes :

1) If he gets picked up by another club and rehab him to play AFL, we have proven our S&C are terrible and can then replace them

2) If he does get picked and calf blows Freo S&C team keep jobs, no more “Fremantle have the worst S&C team in the universe and Webber has to go” posts

3) doesn’t get picked by another AFL club no more posts on “Bennell is a once in a generation player who will win us a premiership”

Moral of the story. Bennell will be delisted BUT there will be a silver lining.

When Harley plays, I will change my avatar, of which I worked a lot harder on, than the younger generation would have. In fact, changing an avatar is extremely hard for me, however I found a way to bridge the gap between minecraft and footy. Now that Minecraft is not so hip, it will have to be Fortnite and footy. Harley, come and play again, you are our only hope...help us OHB#1

I just heard that Harley will play for Peel against Claremont in the next game after the state game this weekend.

Very ambitious and unlikely I would have thought. That game is less than 2-weeks away and Webber yesterday listed him as 3-weeks.

Seems more likely for Round 7 (25 May) vs West Perth @ Joondalup or Round 8 (2 June) vs Subiaco @ Mandurah.

It sounds as though his latest issue is more related to tendinopathy of his Achilles. I have ongoing issues with this and my calves feel very tight as a result but otherwise once warmed/stretched up doesn’t inhibit me too much. A couple of years ago when it got quite bad I had a cortisone into the sheath around the Achilles Tendon and rested for 1-week and has been much better ever since. Anyway let’s hope it has been the Achilles causing HB the awareness/tightness issues more so than the calf.

I heard a snippet of an interview this morning on 720 ABC where Andrew Krakouer was talking about Harley Bennell.

Must have been a replay from an interview last night, so not sure what the context was, and as I was juicing some carrots at the time I wasn't really focused on listening, but AK was saying something about keeping in touch with HB and offering him some mental support.

Anyway, at the end of the clip, Duffield reckons the last calf scare turned out to be more of an achilles issue.
I often juice my carrot to Harley’s highlight reel

Surely there is a specialist with a different kind of treatment in the world who we can send Harley to? I know we sent him to that quack in Germany so why not find someone else. The US must be full of doctors who specialise in this area with the number of sports people they have. Or even here in the UK although he would be more likely to lose his leg.
