Recommitted Harley Reid [extends contract to 2028!]

To be honest, I am glad Harley Reid is staying.

A 2 year extension until 2028 isn't a bad outcome.

I wish it was a 5 year extension until 2031. That means 8 years and a free agent deal.

Worst case scenario is if he does 8 years, at least West coast eagles get some sort of compo pick back.

Or eagles can demand a team like Geelong to offer a package of picks and players
So we're still talking like it's a foregone conclusion that he's leaving? Despite absolutely no indication whatsoever, apart from media drivel? Harley loves the West Coast Eagles, the sooner people accept that, then we can all move on.

They won't pick him, he doesn't want to go there.

Okay they picked him, but it was dumb, he won't stay there past his draftee contract.

Okay he extended, but it's really just a matter of time until he leaves <<<<< you are here.

I don't know what the future brings, but the trend is favourable to us.

I would prefer the comp had a more robust system. Even talking about JHF leaving after one year, Reid leaving after two is shit. I also don't like the idea that any player can be drafted, play 2 or 3 years for $150-200k then can immediately request a trade to the highest bidder at 20 years old. The Tom Boyd and Tom Scully deals were gross. In the case of Reid (or Daicos or whoever) the club who drafted the player should have the right to offer the most money and most years. Reid shouldn't be eligible for $2m a year or more than 4-5 years from anyone at this point in his career but here we are.

I'm more than happy with a two year extension. When I seize power from Andrew Dillon in a military coup I will ban contracts longer than 5 years. And whatever contract you sign you honour. None of this 'he's got 1 year left but another club is offering 4 years' shit. You want to trade for a player with one year on their contract then they play out that contract and then you can re-sign them.

8 years (6 from today) is a long time when you just turned 20. If we get 5 years 100 games from Reid and then he wants to leave and we can trade him then that's OK. He doesn't owe the club a lifelong commitment for calling his name out. Best case scenario other than him staying forever is that it becomes a Dangerfield type scenario where it's the pull of home vs the pull of staying where he's happy playing footy and a part of something. We've got 17 sub 50 gamers and a couple yet to debut plus good picks this year. The real hope is that in 3 years time when we have a list profile a bit more balanced that the team is going somewhere and the media have something other to say than 'why would you want to stay at WC? why would anyone go to WC?'.

They've gotten into it the past couple of Derbies this year, so I can see it continuing.

Think you're under selling Voss there too, he's had a very good season.
There’s no rivalry to be had with Voss, they play different positions and are on completely different levels in footballing ability.

What is Voss meant to say to Harley when he’s not fit to tie his laces?

Dude, it's less that and more that they're just two dudes with some campaigner in them and enjoy getting stuck into people, like they have this year, it's not a leap to think they'll get stuck into each other again.

Nothing else to it.

So Hawks offer of 1.7m a year for 11 years (according to Twomey) was turned down

"Didn't want him anyway"

Every club would have wanted him.

That doesn't mean they were willing to pay the price needed to beat the massive WCE offer.

Hell, I want him at GC for $500K/yr and a 2nd round draft pick in trade....No you say? Oh well, moving on...
