Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
Sure hes not worth it right now, but he's just about the Eagles best player in his 2nd season. 2 mil a year is crazy money, but talks of overpaying are ridiculous when you look at state of West Coasts list.
Ask yourself then why your club is prepared to pay close to that to entice him across.
Reported that hawthorn are/were offering 1.8m.1. We are apparently offering significantly less.
2. And many of us still think it is too much.
Oferring that much to a good but not great kid is just asking for a world in trouble in a couple of years. Contracts are going completely mental and incompetent clubs will be begging the AFL for help soon.

You think WC will be begging the AFL for money, that's a new one![]()

If all our picks end up as good as Harley Reid... there are worse problems to have. Our board said it was $1.5m which is still way too much.
Its not the money its the cap space. You will have 3 number 1 draft picks and a bunch more top 10 draft picks within 2 years. They will all be expecting $2m a year from you.

Ah ok, so all our players picked high in the draft will be asking for 2m now
I guess the big cap increase will have zero bearing on anything as well!
If multiple clubs are willing to pay it, it's not too much. Our board said it was $1.5m which is still way too much.

You can tell he's almost certain to stay at WC, since the supporters of clubs who were desperate to get him are all now tying themselves in knots to say they never wanted him and he's not that good.
Bizarre stuff from certain hawks supportersYou can tell he's almost certain to stay at WC, since the supporters of clubs who were desperate to get him are all now tying themselves in knots to say they never wanted him and he's not that good.

So the fact that so many other clubs want him and are willing to pay huge money has nothing to do with it?Why on earth wouldnt they? So this year's no. 1 pick will be happy getting a fraction of what Reid is on?
You really think that works? As soon as you start, every player will be expecting it.
Shit player, overrated, gives away too many frees, costs too much, I've never jerked myself off to the thought of him in my team! You can tell he's almost certain to stay at WC, since the supporters of clubs who were desperate to get him are all now tying themselves in knots to say they never wanted him and he's not that good.

In this case you mean the market doesn't dictate the prices at all?
So we just say ok other clubs are offering big contracts to our players ,we'll just let them go.So in your mind Reid is the only #1 draft pick clubs will be willing to throw huge contracts at?

Well Waterman would be front ended this year and Yeo paid with Kelly , Baker & GrahamWaterman another, don't know how much Yeo would be on but surely frontloading him as well. Can't do anything this trade period that would compromise pick 2 but expect a massive free agency raid next year.
We get it... you're trying to say he's just a run of the mill number 1 pick and not a generational player. We'll beg to differ. So in your mind Reid is the only #1 draft pick clubs will be willing to throw huge contracts at?
Its what has happened so far. This is a actual event occuring in real time that people are trying to deny is happening. Your club has offered him 10 mill yourself. Essendon made a offer, St Kilda offered over 2 mill a yearSo in your mind Reid is the only #1 draft pick clubs will be willing to throw huge contracts at?
WC are in a tough position with him. He is their highest rated youngster player, who was always said to be a flight risk, and to then lose him would be a disaster.West Coast offering a guy who has only been in the league a few years $2m+ a year?
Looking forward to watching what their next pick 1 asks for in a year.
Troubling.

They have the cap space, and dont look like they have any other players who will command half of that.
By the time some of their younger players start to knock on the door of the q million club, the cap allowance would have gone up by 2 million a year anyway.
The biggest issue for WC was getting locked in for 9 years at that price. There is still the outcome of where he remains a b grader and never gets to the generational player people were saying he was pre draft.
Imagine if he is a good b grader and you have to pay him 2 mill for another 9 years. If WC can avoid that then getting him for 2 mill a year, over three years isn't a big deal.
They also dont want to be in a space to where good young interstate draftees think leaving is a good alternative. They need to have a culture of players that stay. Some stay because of lifestyle, friends at the club, relationships, and yes, money.
