Assuming Harley Reid will cost us around three first-round picks, are you in the "Let's draft Harley; we need a big midfielder and a genuine superstar" camp, or the "Attack the draft; we have too many holes, and Tassie is around the corner" camp?

Agree that this genuinely does probably deserve it's own thread.

I've gone back and forth on my stance a few times on this one already. Currently I'm a yes to 2x first rounders and change. And a no if it's 3x first rounders. Whether Reid himself is worth that or not isn't even really the debate for mine - we genuinely can't afford to give up that much draft capital right now.

For mine it’s draft, subject to change. If the current asking price is what has been floated in some media outlets as 3 x 1sts and $2m per season, that’s a hard no. If that package differs, then the situation is different.

The other factor is right now, is play & behaviour on-field isn’t what you’d want to see from him. No doubt, he’s under more pressure than any player in recent history in WA, but I’d have expected him to be fitter & much more equiped to league footy this year. Very small sample size & hopefully that improves.

Its draft for me but agree with other comments. It will depend on what our firsts are, what Reid will actually go for and how much of our list we can keep together or what we might lose

3 first rounders I want Daicos or Judds first year. Draft for me

I'll trade you Judd's first year for Judd's third year (it'd be Reids third)

Depends what we actually have and where we finish, and if they decide to use draper as free agency currency. Guess that will all become clearer in the next 4 months. We also have 2 2nd round picks that we can look to trade up with a team like gc who will be looking for points. So we could potentially have 4 1st round picks this year, coupled with the ability to split earlier picks/ potential fa compo if we choose. So there is a world if Harley wants to come, we could potentially have him a still have early selections in this years draft.

Three top 10 picks? No.

Three firsts? Yes if it’s one top 10 and two in the 10-20 range.

Two top 10 picks and a late first? Maybe.

As far as I’m concerned, WC won’t let him go for anything less than that this year. Especially if he improves as the season goes, which is likely.

Look at the premiership teams of the last two decades. Most of them have an absolutely elite top 10 player in the game, Martin, Ablett, Judd, Goodes, Daicos, Neale, Trac, Oliver, etc. These players are rarely available, even bottoming out doesn’t guarantee them - see our 2016 draft.

Have been all in on Reid because we definitely need elite, “superstar” level talent.

Think I’m still in that camp. Keen to see how he plays out the season - ability is obvious but let’s see his character.

When you give 3 firsts you want a guy who is more than just a great player. Needs to bring the Leadership piece as well.

Agree.

I voted Yes because I'm at a point where I trust the new regime that much. I think I'll be fine with whichever path Rosa and company choose.

That said, if Draper has a decent season and we somehow got a R1 compo pick. And the Dees burn in hell. It's possible we end up with three first rounders, right? Plus we would have F1 up our sleeves.
So if it ends up being a high quality draft, isn't it possible we end up giving WC 2 R1s + a shuffle of later picks (I'm looking at the JHF trade as recent precedent), and still have the option of taking two first round picks this year? ...or take one and keep the F1?

Posted above before I read this. We're in for a wild trade - draft period.
