Smoken Up went 53.1 first half when he went 1:48.5.

If he is anywhere near that type of form he will win easily.

Yep Lance has already said he is going to try to go close to that again. Will probably ease off a fraction because he doesnt want one of the sit sprinters to have the last shot at him. He said he will break 49 though. I couldnt bet against him to win thats for sure

Closer to 54 though still
Yeah closer to 54. 26 and 27 are bare minimum. Nothing is going to come off the gate and be keen to sit at his wheel, its been raining at Menangle with more forecast and Menangle and Melton despite being world class tracks tend to have the inside a bit off when its wet. Also, he isn't going as well as he was at Len Smith Mile time.

Haha, good one! Your pea sized brain just rolled out your ear!
Na they wont go a 53 first half, just first qtrs of 26+27?????????? That is 53!!!!

I wouldnt be suprised if Lance rattles off a 52 first half if he has pressure from Feelgood or the Quin in the death.

Hmm too bad I've not quoted this you can't edit it and just pretend it never happened.
I said imo they will go 54. They could go a bit quicker or a bit slower; imo.
I then said 53 is the 'bare minimum'.
I don't profess to know the exact splits that are going to happen - anyone who does is dreaming. But I think 53 is the bare minimum/fastest possible time they will go. To say thats the bare minimum and to think they will actually go 53 are two completely different things.
It's like a future grand circuit star racing his way through the grades in a C3. Yes the bare minimum time that horse can run could be 1.54. But in a C3 the likelihood is he will only run, say, 1.58. Not an exact analysis because of different situations but I still cross my fingers you will understand before throwing out personal attacks.

Just thought of a better analogy.
In one of those guessing competitions. "How many jelly beans in the jar"
My guess at the bare minimum could be 200 (eg 53secs); but my actual prediction is 250 (eg 54 secs).

I guess you could say you are smoking the same thing then yeah?

Or you could backtrack even more ;)

Wow, Sundons' Gift is a shadow of the great horse he once was, was gone on the turn there, and they didn't even run that fast.

The driver of the 3rd horse (Alepo Surprise) will be in trouble though, took out SD and another horse inside it on the run to the line, almost caused the inside horse to fall.

Miracle Mile in 30 minutes, just hoping Smoken Up can win, not betting big on this race, if they go too fast watch for Franco Jamar and Mr Feelgood late.

Good to see NSW Harness racing suffer some comedic errors on their biggest night. Well deserved.

And again the McCarthy's try some team driving, deserved to get spanked as well.

Smoken Up.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

What a freak of a horse, had no right to hold on after what happened early, and what happened late.

Karloo Mick saves his best for this night, what a massive run, thought he was going to win, would have been the biggest upset ever IMO.

Imthemightyquinn had every chance, as did Franco Jamar, although it had to work hard early.

The best horse won, always happy when that happens.

Time = 1.51.8.:)

Shocking coverage also, that was Sky Racing that ****ed up, because you could hear the call at the track in the background.

How did Franco Jamar have every chance when it gallops out the gate, and then is used to try and soften up the leader off the back straight?? Was clearly driven to try and get Mr Feelgood the win after it broke.

Yeah, meant Mr Feelgood (typed the wrong name:eek:), they set the race up for him and he ran 4th.

You have to hate it when trainers use team tactics, surely it's time to ban it completely in Australian racing, it's crap, especially in big races, imagine if Karloo had of beaten Smoken Up because they softened him up mid race, Justice would have gone bananas.

I was screaming for SU to hold on, just to piss the McCarthy's off big time.

Better watch the replay again. Horse got on one rein but didn't cause any interference. She did well just to keep it straight! They went the same lead time as the Miracle Mile by the way.

Then what was going on with Sundon's Gift, was it the horse laying in? Because there was massive interference in the run to the line between SD and I Didn't Do it, the latter got pushed well inside the pegs.

Great race, Smoken Up never really looked like getting beaten. ITMQ just cannot unleash the same devastating run over the mile, had the perfect run in the race but was out sprinted by Karloo Mick at the end

Did you actually look at the replay? I Didnt Do It broke under pressure, free of interference before AS had even drew level with SD.

Just watched the replay and a great win from Smoken Up. Stuck to the task and was unflappable really. Great driving to nick outside after getting crossed at the gate. Race lacked the class field of years gone by but it's probably good a good thing given the current climate in NSW.

I think the longer retired the better horses become.
Smoken Up is duel winner now and much better than Lance's other duel winner Sokyola. He has 6 grand circuit races in his hat now; one more than another duel winner Be Good Johnny.
ITMQ is an Inter winner and four time Grand circuit winner.
Mr Feelgood is an Inter and a Hunter Cup winner plus he's won 3 other grand circuit races.
Terror To Love is a NZ Cup winner.
Franco Jamar will win grand circuit races.

Washakie who didnt even qualify is a 4 time grand circuit winner.

Not sure how the race lacked class.

Yeah have to agree with you that race didnt lack any class at all. Look back on it in five years and i reckon it will be one of the stronger fields

I've misused class for hype I suppose. Perhaps I underestimated just how good Smoken Up is.

Agree with the views here, the McCartchy's def tried to team drive and beat smoken up. Feelgood beat smoken up this way with the help of a perfect team drive from washakie in qld.

Did anyone else see Justice give Jnr a bake after he crossed the line? The only reason i could see this is because IMQ took smoken on at the start.

Smoken up far too good with all the pressure they put on him. Interesting to see what the swab says this time.

Maybe they did but when the McCarthys drive at Menangle thats how they always drive, one horse in the race or multiple. John went mad on Mach Wiper last week out in front and drove a beautiful race to win.
Mr Feelgood did the same thing in last years Miracle Mile - eg going three wide to the death down the back. Luke didnt turn his head to see which horse was coming either when he went 3 wide - it could have been Terror to Love or somebody else for all he knew.

Bullshit.

400 out, Luke's only worry was where Feelgood was. You could see him looking around for him. Ehy else would he be looking around? Even at the 150 or so, he was looking for Feelgood.

Luke new after the start FJ had no hope, so used him up to soften up the leader.
