yeah... no club is going to give up pick 1 for a player from another club when they can simply offer up something else and if the club they are dealing with dont like it.. well they just walk that player to the PSD and take him for nothing.

and the carlton supporters here somehow claiming that this cant happen with a 1 million a year player.. pffft.. your own club did it just two years ago.. you all boasted loudly to us about how your club structured Martin’s salary at a million a year for the first year to screw the suns over and make sure no one else took him before you in the PSD..

the AFL wont do a thing about it and it wont go to some mysterious ‘arbitration’.. just as what Carlton did with Martin didnt..

whats good for the goose...

all that being said.. I dont think mckay will go to north.. we hear this “he’s gonna go to north on a million a year” claim every year and it never happens.. I bet it is nearly always rumours generated by the players manager just attempting to drive the price up..

Some good points you mention, but let's be frank, there has been no media whispers at all about Harry joining North, it's just something being manufactured by admittedly desperate Roos fans and Carlton hating trolls (a certain Richmond one being prime example)

There is no smoke, where there is no fire. The club and Harry's management have been in discussions for a while, and a deal will be reached sooner rather than later.

He is uncontracted and would be an ideal fit for North so they're obviously going to table him some sort of offer. Its just speculation yes, but hardly need to be a desperate or carlton troll to see it will be a possibility put on the table.

I'd be holding off until the big offers came in if I was Harry anyway. No point in rushing it

We see this situation year in year out with North. They offer big money, but inevitably get beaten by a lower offer. Like clockwork.

This year they are even worse, and might be relocated further south.

I could see another team nabbing him with a decent offer, but nothing surer than him giving the Roos the usual ‘thanks but no thanks’

Didn’t you cough up 850-900k to outbid North for an injury prone “fake mid” half back flanker last season?

*s sake mate get your facts straight before you talk rubbish.

We offered the Suns a future 2nd AND a future 3rd and they knocked it back.

We also only had Martin on a 650k PA deal at that stage.

When the Suns refused to budge on our offer and their demand of a 1st round pick upgrade (which Martin was not worth based on his form in the 6 years prior) and a deal couldn't be done, we THEN had to restructure his deal so he'd get to us in the PSD.

And we didnt even have Pick 1 in the PSD that year.

You know when we DID have Pick 1 in the PSD? The year we traded for the uncontracted Chris Judd, who (instead of 'walking through to the PSD for nothing') we traded Pick 3, 20 and Josh Kennedy (who we drafted at Pick 4 2 years prior).

North have the PSD card. They could play it, just as Carlton did with Gold Coast and Jack Martin.

How many times does the above post need to be explained to you?

We didnt 'play the PSD card' with Jack Martin, and nor did we play it with Chris Judd.

We offered a future 2nd and a future 3rd for (650k PA) Martin, and we offered 3, 20 and Josh Kennedy for (1 mil PA) Judd.

If North (or anyone else) comes for Mckay on a million plus per year, its a 1st rounder (and that's unders).

Get your facts right when you troll OK?

I know but you kind of need to keep McKay all you will be relying on Casboult as the main man.

C Curnow isnt done just yet, and McGovern and DeKoenig are still around.

Plus we free up nearly a million by letting him walk, plus get in another 1st rounder, meaning we have tons of room to trade in someone, or pick up a F/A.

Not one player in the league is worth 1.3 P/A, especially under current Salary Cap regulation.

And no way in hell does 'battling North' have that money to spend anyway.

Finally it is on record that North offered Zac Williams quite a bit more coin per season than us, yet he still chose Carlton.

Incorrect media stated north did but then realised Carlton offered the huge money. North offered 750

North’s second rounder will be close to pick 20. They may offer something else late in the draft to get the trade over the line.

But there should be no expectation that they should give a first rounder for him as they could walk him for free.

Of all fans, you should know the leverage the PSD card has.

This is disputed, Sam Edmund reported that North offered more and then Sam McClure reported that Carlton offered more. The only people that would know for certain are Zac and his agent.

I only remember this clearly because there were some overly smug Blues posters on the North board quoting Edmunds article claiming Carlton said "that if money was his sole motivation then Carlton wasn’t the club for him" which is absolute horses***.

Completely agree...if he's in contract or you have a pick before them in the PSD.

Unfortunately for Carlton, he's not worth pick 1 in the national draft. Maybe if they are overly generous, they can swap their 2nd (19) with Richmond for their pick 18 and then you'll have the moral victory.

North likely go to the draft with the following in hand...

Pick 1
Pick 21 (End of 1st Rd PP)
Pick 22

There are a million ways they could compensate Carlton before Pick 1 comes into discussion.

Out of interest who was the latest A-grader to request a trade to the wooden spooners? Judd?

North can offer a truckload of money, but they've struggled to attract players even when they were a mid-ranged team. Going to be a big struggle enticing Harry when he's already going to be earning a decent pay packet at Carlton, and has gone on record saying he doesn't want to play in the same team as Ben.

Throw in the possibility of the Kangaroos being sent to Tasmania and it becomes a pretty unworkable situation.

Reckon he'd be far more likely to sign with Gold Coast on a massive deal than head to North Melbourne.
