Harry O?

Only good when he is playing as a loose man in deffence this year.

My thought exactly. I watched the 2011 Grand Final Draw against St.Kilda. For some reason I looked for Harry. I think the game has changed, but Harry has not. He stands and waits for the ball to be passed when crowded and lacks vision. I cannot remember him going in to get a ball. Agreed that's not his role, but sometimes you need to improve and move out of your comfort zone.
Let hope he looks at his role and tries to improve. Being OK is not enough for another premership

Yer let's drop him and chuck Yagmoor in I say. Yagmoor is proven to be sooooo much better.

I mean, Harry, you should be able to be awesome constantly. Yagmoor or Cribbin would do your job better.

Ok. Let's cut the crap. Harry O'Brien is best at the Harry O'Brien role. Which he is currently not playing, because we have 3 of our top-line back 6 out.
You drop Marley, Young and (debatable) Buckley - and replace them with Reid, Toovey and Shaw.... Harry will be playing his role. Right now he is trying to fill the void left by Tooves, Reid and Shaw - who are all amazing rebound players - and *surprise surprise* he's not doing it amazingly.

Currently there is none better to play the Harry O role other than Harry O.

He will come good. As will Dawes. We won the 2010 season with a lot of blokes just doing their job. You didn't see cloke and Dawes kicking bags in 2010. So why has this expectation now been put on them? We now have Goldsack and fasolo and Sinclair contributing 3-8 goals between them per week. It's OK EVERYONE.

>>>>>>>> insert "sky is falling" picture here.

No it's not, it's just not fair, I wanted to be on top by games and percentage at the end of this round and I want to beat every team by 100 points every week and I want anyone who makes a mistake and doesn't fix it with 30+ disposals to be dropped. Or if they are a big guy they must kick goals and take big grabs every week. We are so much better than the opposition we need every player in our side to be clearly better than our opponents. This is what I want, and it's not happening right now. Life sucks being a Pies supporter.

meh, who needs Pendlebury, Shaw, Toovey, Reid, still win easy and just when they think they have a sniff BAM, still got the capacity to go a gear above.
Harry's just lacking confidence and threads like this ain't gonna help, imagine if he reads this thread.
He was on Clarke for most of the first quarter and Clarke has become a super star forward at 200cm, all defenders have struggled to stop him, even Tarrant couldn't do it, Brown (as usual) did the job better than anyone and is shotest?? looks like it, Reid would have been perfect.
So yea gotta keep in mind it was Tarrants first game back and Reid/Shaw/Toovey were out meaning Harry has to actually defend and isn't playing his usual "read the play and run loose" role.
Let him be and he will find within himself the next level.
It's all between the ears.

At 195cm Nate Brown is 2cm taller than Taz who is 193cm so idk where you get the idea of calling him 'short'

I can see us getting along well.

Did we draw in 2011 as well???? CRAP. I missed it.

;)

With Toovey and Shaw set to return (and Reid soon after) we don't need Harrybin the back line. It makes perfect sense to use him as a super sub. His energetic runs and ability to break open a game would be great half way through a 3rd q.

He's been pretty damn bad this year.

I mean, at least with Toovey, if he's not trying to dispose of the football, he can shut a man down.

Harry not only gets beaten by his man, he turns over the ball when in posession.

He has an 80% disposal efficiency this season, which is the highest of anyone in the side. While I agree that he is prone to the odd bad clanger, he can't be all that bad with such a good disposal efficiency.

This must mean that his few clangers ALL result in goals.

Perhaps that's why they stand out so much?

Awesome Possum makes everyone look better.

What injury is he getting over?
General reliability?

I admit he was poor again. He needs confidence taking the high ball. It's a technique thing, and I reckon similar to when Maxwell was out and Mick told him he needed to learn all the structures as well as Nick - and when Harry really stepped up to a new level - Bucks needs to get alongside him at Port Douglas, give him a few brewskis and say "you're a great player mate, but you need to take the ball at the highest point, I don't care if you don't spoil because you aren't even doing that at the moment, just get in front, back yourself and clunk a few marks"

Harry is fine on the run, busting tackles, providing 1-2 options with other defenders, hitting short targets, and one-on-one when he backs himself in going for the ball.
Harry's not fine kicking in after a behind, playing very tight on a man when he concentrates on the man not the ball.

I want to see him back to the form that destroyed Le Cras, the form that made him first option for Stevie J, and made Milne and Betts his bitches.

He has got it in him. Bucks employing both carrot and stick will help him immensely.

Probably been said but couldn't be bothered reading all quotes...when backline is fit, run O'Brien in Dids spot and let's see how he goes... Getting him to meet the ball he can use his pace, long kicking and his elusive body work (if that makes sense).

Let,s be honest here if we never had so many injuries he would have been 1 of the 1st dropped he has been pathetic, for a lot of this season he was one of the senior players down back and has shown absolutely no leadership what so ever.

I think it is to late to drop him now with our injury situation, but his play fills me with dread every time the ball comes near him,I have no confidence in him whatsoever,it is all very well having an attacking defender but his 1st job should be to defend and at that he is hopeless.

I actually think he's been better than what people say. Yep, a few obvious clangers, but it looks more like positioning issues for him more than anything else.
Gees, don't really remember any opponent getting the better of him since Betts in round 3, and I think he actually stopped Betts from kicking 8 or 9 that night.

'When he is good he is very very good but when he is bad he is horrid' or so went some line from my childhood. The 2010 PF with Geelong was on the TV last week and I paid particular attention to O'Brien, though cannot recall if it was Chapman or Steve J that he was minding. O.B played a close, attentive defender's game but seemed to be sharper and faster than he is now. His attacking game seemed to flow naturally from his desperate defense and he was a pretty impressive player.

At his best he is a flurry of arms and legs and difficult to stop, but not so much this year. He is trying too hard and getting caught and becomes a spectator against taller opponents in the air. However, other posters have pointed out the effect of the missing big men in defence and the extra roles Harry has felt he needed to play. Hopefully Brown and Tarrant will take the pressure off him, though last week both key defenders were beaten so Harry can hardly be blamed for an ordinary game.

Geez, imagine if we hadn't won 8 straight...

Harry has made a few glaring clangers which clearly undermine the good things he's been doing in games, happy for him to hold his place in the side while he improves his consistency, hopefully cherry ripe come September when it really matters.

I'm certainly not a supporter who thinks Pies players have to get everything 100% right all the time, they are human... aren't they?
