Players taken from the state leagues have perceived deficiencies that have prevented them from being taken in previous drafts. Someone like Sam Mitchell would have been pigeon holed as too small, too slow, too one dimensional. Harry has the size, athleticism and disposal so it is amazing that he was overlooked for so long. Especially being a key position player, so many guys 190+ are taken as projects, we've churned through plenty of them.

What is the point of these 'Q9 is obscure' posts? We are interested footy fans, we don't care how obscure a nickname is. Someone deliver the goods please?

You seem like a really nice bloke, George, so it really pains me to break your heart over Harry T. He ain't coming home (except to maybe ensure that none of these other reprobates are flirting with his sister  ).

Reality is that it's not a matter of "West" as much as "small town". If you look at Geelong's list, we have a higher proportion of players from small country towns than any teams from the really big smokes, and for these guys the City of Geelong is about as big a smoke as they can handle. We fit - just - in to their comfort zone, basically.

This comfort zone extends beyond a really close knit band of brothers; beyond a coaching staff of vision, passion and nurturing spirit; even beyond an organisation which has raised itself like a phoenix from the flames of impending bankruptcy and four decades of under achievement.

It's about being able to live, play and succeed in a community too small to logically support an AFL franchise, and to fly the flag for all small towns throughout this wide brown land. To defy the odds & achieve the impossible dream, and all in and for a community which is not over-sized and just endless fields of concrete.

So Harry (and Gary, and Joel-s, and Moons, & Jimmy and all the rest) are going nowhere. They're already home.

No argument from me at all mate.
If you have re-read you will find that I have already said that there is sweet **** all chance of him coming home early. He is happy and I might know a bit more about him than I let on.;)
And although it pains me to say it, I would be naive in the extreme in not admiring you guys, the way you have gone about things and the way you remain seperate, in a provincial way, from the Melbourne clubs.
Kudos to you all. You deserve your recent successes.:) You bastards!

Now for my clubs turn. Would you mind terribly if young Joel Corey came back home?:p

As much as it pains me to say it since I consider Joel a Geelong legend as he has spent his entire career with us, I would say yes to your proposition in exchange for three 1st round picks. :p

No chance in hell if the man himself wants to finish his career at Kardinia Park - dream on my friend!

This post has all the poetry and passion. It just lacked Jim Neighbours singing "The Impossible Dream" from the "Man from La Manche" in the background.

I think it's code for "we've forgotten how the nickname came about, but if we keep saying it's obscure, hopefully people will stop asking." ;)

It's more like; they were drunk at the time and it doesn't really mean much anymore, but it works.

if hed told me straight after the sex, i wouldnt have remembered him telling me. those roofie cocktails of his are lethal, and play havoc on the memory.

please dont turn that into another sexual joke about me. im innocent, scared, and most likely pregnant, too.

Oh Barmy, I know it was a great weekend and all, but you didn't have to brag about us going at it... Let's just say you're a very hot female for the readers at home. :D
