Didn't Fremantle make top 4 twice in the seasons after their GF loss?
I think its saying something that despite how you're always johnny on the spot with statistics, you can't be bothered taking time to look up Freo's wiki. That's how irrelevant the Dockers are. :D

(they did have two decent seasons after their GF appearance before they slid down)

It's going to be very hard to know until the club sees results whether miller is any good.

All I'm saying is that his track record with GWS' forward line is solid, so I'm confident he'd make our forward line very much functional again lol

All we can do is speculate at this point.

I hated Campo and was happy when we replaced him with Godden but he somehow managed to be even worse. All we can hope for is Adelaide recruiting people with more AFL experience. SANFL coaches clearly aren't going to cut it.

1) By that logic we couldn't have known Hart would be a bust when he was sacked from Collingwood.
2) But really we should have been able to tell.
2) Maybe, but there are two kinds of "we" in your reply. There's you and I and other BF posters --- we should have been able to tell. I can't prove this, but when Hart (renowned defender) was announced as FORWARD Coach I contacted my sister (who's a rabid Crows supporter, makes me look uninterested! :D :tonguewink:) with a "Wtf?" message. I could not see how a defender could make a specialist Forward Coach. Defence, maybe, but Forwards?? Naaaah, and I stand by that. They require different mentality/movement/set-up/skills etc.
1) This involves the "we" that is the Club, the people who appointed Hart and took him into 2020 (not Nicks). Did they employ due diligence, ask Collingwood why he was "released"? Maybe the Pies knew he was woeful but talked him up knowing he'd sabotage, not improve, the Crows' forward line? Maybe he was a bottom-of-the-barrel choice out of several candidates down there, but they went with the Devil they knew? Maybe it was straight-out nepotism (Roo and Hart were teammates). Maybe he was the only one they could get for the $s, and so on. There's so much we supporters don't know and may never know.

It applies a bit to Burton, as well. Did the Crows contact Brisbane to ask why he was released (was he sacked/did he resign)? Other questions, as above etc.

GWS forwards:

2018: 12th for goals per inside 50, 3rd for scores per inside 50
2019: 3rd for goals per inside 50, 5th for scores per inside 50
2020: 4th for goals per inside 50, 4th for scores per inside 50

Adelaide:

2018: 6th for goals per inside 50, 1st for scores per inside 50
2019: 9th for goals per inside 50, 6th for scores per inside 50
2020: 17th for goals per inside 50, 9th for scores per inside 50

So Brad Miller has had GWS in the top 4 for scoring per inside 50 entry while he's been there. Meanwhile we've gotten consistently worse under Hart
Great stats to see, thanks. This poster made a good point about their midfield and forward supply, too:
Actually now that I think about it, GWS forward line issues were probably more down to their ball movement issues than anything. They seemed to really struggle to move the ball quickly and efficiently in 2020.
If the Crows had 3 seasons in the Top 4/inside entry, people who could kick straight and a solid defence (looks like they will, there), they could win a Flag with that. Maybe.
Big maybe. Multiple other factors involved.

I'm not anti-Miller based on his GWS record.

I know a lot of people on here have said no to SANFL coaches, but, if they win another flag this year would there be any consideration for Mark Stone?

He has also been an assistant at West Coast, Sydney and Fremantle at times when all 3 have been pretty successful on-field.

You would have to think this is already done and dusted. We will have the people signed or ready to sign (if they are still coaching).

When we make announcements will be interesting.

Do go BANG and make all the announcements in a one-off presser that basically says "we aren't messing around anymore". It could make a real impact on members, players (current and future) and the media.
OR
Do we make the announcements in a staggered format, dragging out the 'good' news over the next few weeks to keep us in the media while Port are in finals?

Personally I'd prefer the first one, particularly if it includes Neil Balme.

I think the announcement s are dependent on when the incoming coaches finish at their current club. For example Bass can't be announced until Port are out.

I'd take Stone but I think he will finish up at the end of 2020 and move back interstate.

If he was staying I wouldn't take him in a line coaching but a development role. He has done an amazing job at the Bays.

I think we've established that success as an SANFL coach doesn't automatically translate to success as an AFL coach.

I don't know about the AFL but Neil Kerley took my long suffering Panthers from bottom in 1963 to the Premiership in 1964.
Go you one better. In 1934 Glenelg won its first flag and South ended up on the bottom of the table. Then in 1935 Glenelg came bottom and South won the flag.
Back when I started following footy it was always a toss of the coin between South, Sturt and Glenelg as to who would come bottom but I think my Bays had the worst record.....again until that man Kerley came to the Bays.
