Somethings annoying me. A former player I know (not tigers or eagles) has been telling me for about a week that Cousins is going to pull the pin about round 4-5.
Now I am fairly certain he is taking the piss, and I refuse to take the bait.but he just keeps saying "you watch".
Surely it would be all over town,I ask.
"you watch".
Has anyone heard anything remotely close to this?

The only thing being pulled is this guy's wang and your leg.
Why would he retire at round 4 or 5? Ludicrous.

no idea if its true, but i reckon this will be Cousins last year for sure. He didnt look as hungry on thurs night, and it does seem that all pre-season and in rd 1 there was "something" missing in him, just seemed a bit like going through the motions to me. Albeit a highly professional "going through the motions" and still was one of our best, but i'd say that at the end of the year when it comes to deciding on another pre-season and season, my money would be on him deciding he had done all he needed and it was time to exit stage left and maybe take up a media gig.

I agree. He reckons it was to avoid a circus leading into round 1.
It's amazing I keep laughing it off and telling him he is a wanker, but he just keeps running with it.

One thing I will add though, is that he is very keen to air his documentary, but will not do so while he is still playing.

I'd like to have Cousins for another few seasons but if he retired, I wouldn't be devastated, just as long as it doesn't drag the club into some media bullshit (which it probably will...no matter how it plays out in reality, they'll find a way to make it something we've done wrong)

It'll be "Ben quits hopeless Tigers". Hacks with "inside sources" will tell us how Ben doesn't think Richmond will be any good for another 30 years and wishes he'd never agreed to play there.

Going mid-season would be challenging for the club, if only for the media frenzy it would cause.

The more I think about it I'm not sure I want him playing on after this season.

I hope he stays on for the whole year, but I think this year will be his last and so it should be. He's invaluable as to how much he teaches our players how to gut run etc but after this year he'll only be taking another players place.

I'm glad we got him.

I love reading this line all the time " he teaches our younger players how to gut run" when was the last time anyone saw one of our players gut run? The 1980 grand final.

As for the rumour " It is not a rumour! Hardwick hasn't got Ben in his plans. Ben knows this and has been disalluisioned the hole pre season . Expect an announcement before round 5.

Why worry? This doesn't have any impact on our future what so ever.

Having said that, i cant see Ben Cousins wanting to go out like that. Unless its a season ending injury or Hardwick told him he'll be playing at Coburg the rest of the year. Coming back to footy is as much about playing footy as it is about restoring his image and continuing his rehabilitation and giving up after 4 or 5 rounds of footy doesn't look good. It may well equate to many people believing he's fallen off the wagon again.

He has a contractual arrangement with the club. I would have thought he may have a bit too much to lose financially. I would be highly surprised if this evenuated. I also think if this was the case, Hardwick would not play him. So i think your mate is having a lend. Also, no one has spotted Hutchy living in his bin to "source the facts".

Interesting point put to me yesterday about how Cuz looked good but not great and super ripped and buffed and all oiled up on Thursday night like he did every game last year. This season with the video footage for his return to football in the doco finished (this was the bit my friend new about) she asked me if I thought it was odd or more to do with the tummy bug. I wouldn’t have a clue, (I would hope not) but it is an interesting observation.

There is absolutely nothing to suggest he will be any good as a coach. In fact I think the opposite, he is an introvert and a poor communicator. Never renown for being a particularly smart footballer. Campbell may have been annoying on the field but everyone (bar Shane Tuck) seems to dig him as a coach.

Collins should be playing over Cousins, that should be clear to everyone. Seriously, I honestly believe it's best for everyone if he just goes away.

If he was to can it mid season which i doubt, it could have something to do with his pending book? a release date? incrimating evidence that would see him dismissed from the afl?

cant really see a reason why he'd do it thou? he did seem to struggle last thurs thou?
