Opinion Has Hardwick been gagged

People rubbishing Hardwick saying the 2016 list was the best he had so far in his time at the Tigers need to understand something. In terms of pure talent, he was right.

Compare our 2016 list to our 2010 one when he took over and you will realise the list we had this year was easily the best he as had to work with in his time, and 2017's list is better again.
Possibly - possibly not. I would suggest a bloke who bemoans the loss of Newman (who he continued to play over others), Foley, Dan Jackson, Knights and Petterd - along with more than a liberal dose of Jake King mentions - rated his 2013, 14 and 15 lists very, very highly.
We like to think so, but in essence the BEllis', Menadues, Drummonds, Broad, Markovs, Lennons and Shorts are no further advanced or certain to elevate themsleves to a level above BEllis, Conca, McDonough, Arnott, Gordon, Elton, McBean, who all showed glimpses here and there at VFL and AFL level.

Yer maybe, in fact maybe everybody at tiger land has been gagged. Because nobody knows the game plan should there be one?

Maybe you need to Understand something and that is, Yarran doesn't make it the best list he's had.

AFL Trade 2016: Big Fish to Richmond list excites coach Damien Hardwick

Richmond has picked up exciting tough Midfielder in Dion Prestia Picture: Helen Orr

DAMIEN Hardwick has assured impatient fans Richmond has the list to now compete next year after rounding out its off-season haul on Thursday.

Richmond’s level of comfort with its list build was indicated by the selection of small Midfielder in Dion Prestia and tough inside Midfielder Josh Caddy from Geelong, who will both require no time to flourish.

Hardwick told the Herald Sun the Tigers had made massive list gains in the past two years despite some external perceptions and they were ready to fire from day one in 2017.

“We are really excited about what we have brought in. We have got great depth of players that can take us where we need to go. We have just put some pure double cream on top in the last two weeks,” he said.

“The big thing with our list strategy is we had a really good draft last year and with Dion and Josh they will add that hard edge in the guts that has been missing. Trent can’t wait to play alongside them”

“So those players that will come on this year are Corey Ellis as he didn’t play a lot, Connor Menadue, Nathan Drummond will come through.

“Then we add Chris Yarran and Kamdyn McIntosh are ready-made players who we missed badly this year and add Nankervis to bolster our ruck stocks. We are pretty happy with our build over the past 24 months and playing finals will be a given in my eyes.”

Hardwick said his contract situation will be backed up by him after Richmond re-signed him to 2018 despite disgruntled comments from the vocal minority Richmond supporter base.

“I was on holidays. I saw a couple of things (on the internet) but that sort of thing is taken care of in due course. We have just got to concentrate on winning footy games.”

He is aware fans are frustrated by the lack of finals wins — he is yet to salute in September as a coach — but said they should put the most recent loss into perspective and forget about 2016 as it was a year of rebuilding and brain storming.

“The Dogs proved you can turn it around quickly and they were the real form team of the competition once injured players returned. We are looking to improve beyond 2015 and I have got no doubt we will with the talent we have pulled in and a couple of bits of new game style we will be working on over the summer.”

“We realise how important winning finals is to our future and we expect to have a really good season. With our deep list all positions are up for grabs including Alex Rance’s.”
Woo hoo...top 4 finish. In 2017

DH can barely contain himself...good signs

what are the odds for the Tigers finishing in the top 4?

Maybe you need to Understand something and that is, Yarran doesn't make it the best list he's had.

Dimma's first year was 2010. This was our list:

1. Astbury, David
2. Browne, Andrew
3. Collins, Andrew
4. Connors, Daniel
5. Cotchin, Trent
6. Cousins, Ben
7. Dea, Matthew
8. Deledio, Brett

9. Edwards, Shane
10. Farmer, Mitch
11. Foley, Nathan
12. Graham, Angus
13. Griffiths, Ben
14. Grimes, Dylan
15. Hislop, Tom
16. Jackson, Daniel
17. King, Jake

18. Martin, Dustin
19. McGuane, Luke
20. McMahon, Jordan
21. Moore, Kelvin
22. Morton, Mitch
23. Nahas, Robin
24. Nason, Ben
25. Newman, Chris
26. Polo, Dean
27. Post, Jayden
28. Rance, Alex
29. Riewoldt, Jack
30. Simmonds, Troy
31. Tambling, Richard
32. Taylor, Troy
33. Thomson, Adam
34. Thursfield, Will
35. Tuck, Shane
36. Vickery, Tyrone
37. Webberley, Jeromey
38. White, Matthew

Bolded are not with us any more. That makes it only 8 players who are still at the club who were there when Dimma took over. That 2010 list is absolute junk. Easy to see what we have now is so much better in quality when compared to what he started with.

Just because he said the list is the best he has had in his time at the club, doesn't mean he was wrong. He was 100% right. It is the best he has had to work with. It's just not good enough to win a flag.

You missed Relton Roberts. He played Round 1 2010. How could you possibly leave him out???
