Coach Has Ken Hinkley Been Found Out?

I reckon he is gone. Divulging contract info publicly ahead of such an important game was bizarre. There seems to be a strange thing going on with the footy media and Port as well? Some journos seem to be going in hard to talk Hinkley up. Is there a bit of a Hinkley cult out there?

It's unreal. Caro last night said Hinkley is under the most pressure but it should be Pyke. Hinkley at least has brought in some young talent. Wut?! Pyke made a grand final less than 2 years ago. Port haven't won a final in 5 years.

Absolutely, yes. Port have been huge on media inclusivity over the last few years, particularly with the AFL360 guys, with Caro, and with Michelangelo Rucci, so they'll all sing his praises for the sake of looking after their own interests. And Kane Cornes loves him because Hinkley rescued and extended Kane's career when he arrived in 2013 and then gave his brother Chad an assistant coaching gig at the club.

Warren Tredrea, on the other hand, doesn't get much of a run in the Vic media but is fairly prominent here in SA. As the only major Port presence in the media without any particular attachment to or agenda regarding Hinkley, he has been scathing.

This coming weekend, is a damned if you do, damned if you don’t weekend for Ken.

Do a hatchet job on Freo, and the media will say they beat a demoralised & undermanned Freo.

Lose to Freo, and the media will say that Freo played out of their skins due to changing coaches.

Take nothing out of this weeks game.

The club will only lose more money if Ken stays. The money they make from attendances is worth more than the money to pay out the rest of Ken's contract.
And now they're getting money from the senior players, which is not a good sign. We'll be back to where we started if we don't do something!
We lost all our money from keeping Mark Williams and draining ourselves of all our senior players. And by the end of the noughties, we had no money and no list. We'll be in the same position again if we hold on to Ken and let our attendances drop.
Won’t China bail you out?

Say Port sack Hinkley after the weekend, and have to pay him out, wouldn't be just be repeating the Matthew Primus disaster, promoting an assistant on less money than most 0ther senior coaches in the league ?

Still think Ken survives going into 2020, despite the understandable growing supporter anger and unrest. It's sad to see this proud and historic football club (counting the SANFL Magpies obviously) in such a poor state financially..

Heard on SEN yesterday Saints made $1million from it this year and Port only $300k
$700k of that is the fee paid out of the $4m+ sponsorship raised by Port and AFL to buy the game off the Saints.

Any coach who does not have the Cattle will get found out!

Port does (most likely) have the cattle, which is why the PAFC fans are up in arms over Kenny.

The AFL won't help them out if they need to ask for funding to pay KH out. Carlton had this problem years ago when we tried to sack Denis Pagan mid season..

We have the cattle to win 14 games a year with a reasonable run with injuries IMO. When Wingard and Polec were traded out and doom and gloom on the Port board and some said we are heading to bottom 4, I wrote we will win between 10-14 games given who is on our list and the territory game we place. We get the ball inside 50 enough, ranked #1 for almost all of the season, but we are poor at converting to goals in particular and scores in general.

The coach is the one that can squeeze out that extra 2 or 3 wins out of the group, to go to the next level or doesn't get them motivated enough so that we have yo-yo seasons, win we aren't favourites, lose when we are and the expectations are high for a win.

That's what Port fans are sick of under Hinkley - the yo-yoing and inconsistency. They say a team takes on the characteristics of the coach. Hinkley is flaky and after a good start and enthusiasm of the first 2 years, his flakiness in selections, strategy, tactics and gold passes has turned my team into a flaky one.

Well if we can't get a coaching change, I at least hope we can get a board change.
Something has to change!

Hinkley probably will go but the list is awful apart from the kids drafted last year and odd player 2/3 of the list would struggle to get games at other clubs

I missed this. What did he say?

Oh absolute BS

The list isn't that bad.
These players at the minimum need to be let go or traded as they just not AFL standard and while Hinkley needs to share blame a lot goes to admin and recruiting staff, as you see thats alot to replace for the new coach...
