Has Sidebottom become elite?

Am I missing something? Does Collingwood get more sponsorship money per "elite" player? Or does Sidey get some sort of special membership card? It is just a word, we all know he is playing well and is a gun. Who cares?
 
Elite? As in top 5-10 in comp? No way. Let's not get carried away here guys. He's had a fantastic season but it is one season. Beams and sidey are becoming very good midfielders but let's just remember a lot of other players have been doing it for longer. Players will only become elite once they are recognised by the masses as one of the best. Let's give it a couple of seasons.

Great game tonight, he's probably one Of the most improved players this year.

They have both came A-Graders but not Elite

I hate that word 'elite' as it varies from person to person and everyone has their own standards. He has played two good games on the trot, doesnt necessarily make you elite. You have to perform at that standard for a long stretch, preferably a season or two before you are regarded so highly.

Come back to me in two years and I have no doubts he would be at that level.

Agree 100% with that does take a few seasons to get there but I would not be surprised if he has done that

He hasn't only played 2 games in a row. He could have won a norm smith and if i remember was one of our best in a finals win over adelaide.

It is just his last 2 games have been 35 and 39 possessions (against reigning premiers).

Can we slag off players like Sinclair. but can't acknowledge that Sidey has become elite. Pies supporters are too negative, but i can't blame us.
 
He hasn't played at the level he is at now for a sustained period of time. He has played good games on the HFF, like in the GF as youve mentioned and Semi Final against Adelaide, but he's often struggled to string really good games together, one after the other. The examples you have given would make him more of a big game player, not an elite player.

He's on the right track, but I'm certainly not one to claim a player is elite after two elite level games. That's absurd.
 
Whether or not he is elite, he was an excellent choice. He creates space where there is none and can skip and dance around opposition with ease, very much like Pendles. His disposal by feet and hands is sublime, and he has footy smarts and vision. When we have had high draft picks and used them, the selections of new talent have been faultless. Steele seemed the dominant player on the ground to me, but I just love watching him so could be biased.

Incidentally, Dawes took some overhead marks and seemed to run into some form!

Well I think he has been Good all Season but I love how good he has been when they put him into the Midfield:thumbsu:

Steele is a Great User of the Ball but I don't see him as a Elite Kick as Pendles as sometimes they don't hit there mark on the Full but they are majority of the time to the right place
 
I do believe Sidebottom has become elite this year. I suggest my interpretation of elite is looser than most, but as far as I'm concerned Sidebottom is having an All Australian year as a midfielder and looks set for a top 3 Copeland finish.

I have him in the same category as Pendlebury as Swan now and individually he to this stage has probably had a better year than the pair. It's incredible how much he has lifted his game since last season and it's a credit to him for performing to this level he has with such consistency this year.

Elite? Maybe. I don't really care because I believe that's a term that compares him to all players in the competition. The important thing is he has risen for us when we need it most. His improvement this year is all, and more, than we could have hoped for.

On current form I do rate him elite. The question, as many have posed is, can he keep it up? We'll see. My SC team hopes so.

Edit: And if he can keep it up, and you consider he's only 21... FAAAARK.
 
He is one of the better players in one of the best teams playing a sport at the highest level possible for that sport in the world.

If not elite, please re-write dictionary.
 
Has had a brilliant season so far, watching him last night he has taken not one but about 3 steps up this season. The way he uses the footy, finds space in congestion, skills on both sides of his body is Pendles like. Is he one of the elite midfielders in the comp, big call at this stage of his career, but he's on the verge. Huge part of our midfield group now, who along with Beamer, who has also been brilliant, would be top 3 or 4 in the copeland right now.

Walshy needs to have Sidebottom and Beamer signed to long term contracts, because both will get even better in the next couple of years.
 
Ease up on the kid guys! He's certainly coming along nicely and for a 21 yo is blessed with talent, poise and footy smarts but its a long road to the top of the mountain and he is only approaching the final climb now.

Expect the opposition to be paying closer attention to him shortly and see how he handles that before you start hanging that elite chain around his neck.

That is true and teams could start to tag him espically with Swan injured and the questions comes how does he handle a Tag?

Sidebottom is a gun. With him, Beams, Thomas and Pendlebury still very young the future is bright for you guys. Its all about the midfield and your team is set for a continued run of top 4 finishes in the years to come.
 
He certainly has made Robert Walls look like a peanut.
