Have the rule changes gone too far?

It appears to be quicker, but it also appears to be more uncontested.

Regardless of that, what frustrates me is there isn't a sporting code in the world I can think of that makes significant rule changes as often as the AFL does. No one else dicks around with their game year on year as much as the AFL does. We'll always then be in a cycle where they need to make new rules or adjust every new rule to fix new problems that theyve created by tinkering in the first place.

I think scores were up between 10-20 points on average but round 1 is a small sample size. We will really only be able to tell after 5-6 rounds. I just hope we don't lose the contested footballers to "athletes". There is absolutely no fan that wants that.

Put me down as another who’s enjoying most of the new changes barring the stand, which is just leading to confusion.

The game usually slows down a bit as we get into winter and the grounds start getting heavier, so it may well turn out okay if it’s a little faster than people would like right now.

Yesterday was way more fun for me than any of our Dees Goody Ball contest/defence games of the last few years

Yeah that was a ripping game. If we get more of those then we’re heading in the right direction

I for one is liking the new last touch rule. One of the better rules they’ve brought in of late
I was concerned the last disposal rule might lead to more congestion, as there is an incentive to avoid the wings and everyone could stay closer to the corridor, and to each other. But there hasn't been any real evidence of that yet.

That rule has had a positive influence. Can’t say the same for the ruck rule yet

You’re seeing a few lower scoring games now, likely adjustments have been made after the first few rounds.

Is there still a 'deliberate out of bounds rule'? Or is that called 'insufficient attempt ' now? I've missed a lot of footy from 2022 onwards.
