This thread is not for the political debate raging (Incumbent v SFF) it is for supporters to voice their opinions on what ideas / expectations they have.

What would make you go to the club more regularly?

What could guarantee the financial security of our club?

What could improve our brand / image?

What (structure / spending) could improve our performance on the field?

Re-instate Grant Thomas as Head Coach!!! While he was there St.kilda enjoyed the most stability since the Yabby Jeans era. While he was coach I had never been more proud of my club. If it wasn't for the constant injury curse and that ground invasion, we would have our second cup now.

Find and retain high profile club sponsors.

If possible diversify the clubs interests, the more successful clubs run more than just a social club/pokies, they also have other business' that make money for them.

Change the match day pre game show etc.
Hire a hairdresser / stylist for when the players have there photos taken, or at least give them a mirror and a comb. i.e. make the player photos look better.
Club figures refrain from airing personal squabbles in the media to the detriment of the club.

Invest in better facilities and more medical staff and research
Greater on and off field discipline. The more successful teams are extremely disciplined at least on field.
Strengthen the relationship with the VFL affiliate.

Re: Have YOUR SAY - what changes would you make to the STFC to make it a better club

Need to find and retain high profile sponsers.

Need a ruckman, we cant keep destroying Kosi there, Rix isn't up to it and Brooks hasn't even been used so I'd have to say also not up to it.

Need an injection of pace into our midfield. I'm surprised that Milne hasn't taken the step up to there and just seems content to live in the forward line.

Theres more but that'll do for now.

What would make you go to the club more regularly?

I'll (probably) go to all MCG / TD games anyway...

What could guarantee the financial security of our club?

management stability / long term financial mindset / potent sponsors

What could improve our brand / image?

premiership (obviously) / management stability / interesting sponsors / modern club home and facilities / media conduct coaching

What (structure / spending) could improve our performance on the field?

long term thinking (look at Geelong - they had patience, suddenly had confidence and now have a flag) / selected trades (real improvements or incoming first round draft picks - do not trade early draft picks away) / improved recruitment procedures and scouting / improved training and medical facilities

Corporate side I was talking with a guy inside the club and he stated the club must deliver greater return for their sponsors, not just in terms of getting their brand across the media but through allowing sponsors to take their clients/friends into the inner scanctum to meet players etc etc. Yeah Ross Lyon has a job to do however by locking out major sponsors, supporters etc all your doing is forgetting about the Sponsorship Managers Job ( Ross needs to understand how his wage gets paid and be more receptive) I remember our company was a major sponsor going back a number of years ago and every employee taking clients to the game was made to feel we were part of the team which rubbed off on our clients who in-turn invested more in our business. Our sponsorship lastest many years until like a few similar sponsors we did not feel welcome inside the club nor our clients. Football became a different business in early '90s - a sporting business that forgot how to sell to loyal sponsors.

Get back to Grass Roots and funnel next generation of local kids to support St Kilda. Locals are the ones that have true affinity with the Club. It would be great to see a map of where the share of Saint supporters live from 1970 - 1980 - 1990 - 2000 (wonder if the club has had the foresight to map this trend??. Major supporter base would still be Bayside etc. the reason....St Kilda promoted itself well within its community in the old days mainly to cater for the drafting zones. What St Kilda management has forgotten is that during this drafting zone period their exposure, investment etc secured a generation of supporters. By dropping this investment post the National Draft they have lost alot of the next generation of supporters in the area not in support by in playing or following AFL football.

Ask a lot of guys what they did on Saturdays (1) Played in the Moorabbin StKilda League in morning (2) Hopefully getting picked to play little league on Saturday or get to the game in the afternoon. 80% of those guys barrack for St Kilda then and now.

2-3 times a season training would be attended by St Kilda players - that drove interest support and ongoing revenues for many years.

St Kilda needs to support/sponsor the MJSFL at a higher level in terms of investment and presence. They need to get exposure at local Auskick venues and reward/embrace juniors into their club.

Look what Collingwood did this year - I know a few local kids invited to participate in a 6 week program where they met players, attended education sessions and final session was meet & greet players coaches etc at the MCG on game day. For 6 weeks all they thought about was Collingwood and their experience on the back of being part of the team. - Life long young supporters who may one day sit on the board of a large company deciding if they should invest $5 mill into the club in 20-30 years time??

a sponser would be nice, a solid 'career' ruckman not just make do's and one year contracts, no internal conflicts (or atleast that we know of) more sources of revenue. Research and take a leaf out of major American and Europian sporting clubs they never seem to be doing too bad.

Nice post CC.

I thought the Morabbin league was still inexistance?

Looking at the Judd situation and Carltons approach, what are the legalities of offering work to stay within the club after football as part of employment packages?

We definately need some ambasadors for our club running around the country. What about parternships and joint membeships with VFL and other elite sporting clubs?

Are puners still allowed in free at 3/4 time? What is the club did allow this at its MCG games and have away a saints flag with the sponsor on the back or something? Anything to get more exposure to new supporters.

Last year there were two players drafted into the AFL from Mackay.
This year Collingwood targeted the region in the midseason break - they held a training session up here which was attended by 3,000+ locals and they promoted themselves on TV, at schools, and to the local clubs.

The North Mackay Saints were given a Collingwood gernsey signed by all their players - for use as a fundraising prize. I'm sure we weren't the only club.

Later at the North Mackay trophy night we had kids snipping the red balloons off the red, white and black bunches at each table !!!

There are a lot of grass-roots clubs out there who call themselves the Saints and wear the red, white and black. Half the work is already done - all the club needs to do is show some interest in these clubs and the supporter base will grow.

Who has visited the club recently?
Is it the sort of place that you would go to to have fun at?
Are the people nice and friendly?
Are there a lot of things to do and see there?
Does it cater for a range of age groups?

What would you expect of a football social club?
If you were designing a new clubhouse what innovations would you consider?

I have not really had much to do with the club in that fashion - I have often been a St Kilda social club member. One year the whole family drove to Melbourne. We went directly to the club (our first stop in Melbourne) only to find that I couldn't bring the kids inside.

It seemed rather sedate. The pokies being the main form of entertainment there. We found a motel up the road called the Sand Belt where we stayed the night. This place was bopping - music, girls galore and happy people everywhere.

We went back to the club the next morning and visited the supporter's shop where we spent lots of money. We had a ball watching the players training, we took lots of photos (which is frowned upon now) and had the good fortune to be able to exchange a few words with a few of the players.

The trophy room was locked and no-one knew when it might be open to visitors.

If you are like me, you are a socila club memeber to get better access to finals tickets and an earlier seat selection.

I would not dream of rocking up there. It is in the middle of nowhere and nothing to do. That is one of the reasons other locations should be considered for our home base.

Imagine Junction oval (I know it will not happen). 5 minute walk from Fitzroy St and 10 from the beach. It could be encoumpassed into the park and be amazing.

I am not sure of the solution, just the issues!!!

Obviously, many of our problems would be solved if the whole mess with the Kingston Council was settled once and for all. That would give the fans a place to go, not only to slot coins in a machine, but also swim, go to a gym, etc.

How about more public appearances at key spots around Moorabbin. Southland is one of the largest shopping centres in the country, and is just down the road - how about placing a Saints Shop there (I don't remember seeing one there before, although there is an AFL store). The players, coaches, etc could occasionally go there, and we'd drum up local support while also increasing sales (as opposed to selling everything online at 75% off at the end of the season, like what's going on at the official website right now).

I think one problem that could be sloved straight away is for you to articulate what the hell you actually mean, or just go away.

I don't think the club is focused enough on the fans. The website is poor, and it seems they are more keen on flogging extra stuff on us rather than respecting we (as members) are the club.

The Thomas/Buttress saga, public spats in the car park, losing sponsors, the state of the clubrooms, inability to negotiate where we want to be located, praising the recruiting staff when we haven't spent enough money and have had a few very ordinary drafts in a row.

There's a lot not to like, but we are a resilient bunch.

I'd be quite happy to part with our first 2 picks if we can just get the right player. We have too many ruckman on out list already, and we need pacy midfielders. James Wall is coming on in defence, Allen is supposed to be a good prospect, so get on with it Saints!!!
