That is 14 days from a potential transmission event not from a negative test.
its 14 days of quarantine from crossing the border. Even if you test negative to covid you need to go into quarantine for 14 days if you came from a state where there was covid. If the government believed the window was less then two weeks then the quarantine period would be shorter. The logic is the same.

Nobody is going to stop him working after a negative test result. The country would be in disarray if that was the norm, all states are testing in the thousands, they don't ignore the results of those tests and stop people from working.

The opposite would be true, if he tests negative yet they stop him working there would be issues. Why would they do that, there would be no pressure from any QLDer to stop Tom playing after a negative test result, no polititcal pressure will arise.

Don't stress. Unless it comes back positive, then you can stress.

Just saw on news that a soccer player in the UK has been banned from playing for more than a week because he was visited by a friend subsequently diagnosed with Covid even though he himself has tested negative...

Again, the 14 day quarantine period is about the time between someone being exposed to the virus and becoming contagious (or symptomatic).

It is not, as you suggested, due to people being contagious at the time they provide samples that test negative.

I would accept that situation. Just having a sore throat though is not as big a deal in a state getting zero cases a day.

Saw somewhere that the club have come out and said it's nothing serious and they fully expect Hawkins to train tomorrow.

That would be due to him having contact with a confirmed case

Unless a close contact of Hawkins tests positive, there's no reason why he'd need to quarantine for 14 days if he returns a negative test

If it was the case that there was a suspicion that Tim might have Covid - the whole team would have to quarantine, not just Tom, and possibly Richmond too as I think we are co-lo with them in accommodation. In other words the grand final would be delayed/cancelled

Not just that, but the scratchy throat started yesterday and on Sunday night he was at Metricon for the Brownlow - also there was Selwood, Dangerfield, Guthrie & Menegola

Richmond players in attendance were also at Metricon, maybe in a different room - not sure what the setup was like

Precisely. It's a nothing story from nothing journalists.

This is the biggest non-story that has blown up that I’ve seen for a while. The media is having a field day with words like “quarantine” and “isolate” and idiots are eating it up.

Bit like the time Ablett left the track early before the 2009 GF and there were all these reports he wouldn't be playing.

Absolute crap of an article nothing wrong with him he hasn't trained 2 days in a row all season nothing more then a glorified media beat up

This probably happens hundreds of times in a normal season by the way. Pandemic aside you would rather not have a cold go around your team! He'll have a test, come back negative, and be totally fine to play.

It's probably happened numerous times this season and only reason we're hearing about Hawkins is cause it's grand final week

Don't we always have some issue in the week prior to the Grand Final? Milburn's calf, Stevie J twice? Maybe it is an omen in our favour?!

Yep
- knee issue in 2011
- hip surgery in 2009. Played round 20 and then didn't play again until the preliminary final
