So if using Hawkins in the Ruck and Forward works well for the next few weeks does Ottens come back at the expense of Blake? Or do we go back to the more traditional two specialist ruckman?

You've asked the questions that we're all avoiding, including Thompson. :thumbsu:

I really like Hawkins and hope he has a long career dominating the Geelong forward line but when push comes to shove this year, Podsiadly has his spot.

No shame in that.

Its why I'd like to see West in the side. He keeps the balance the same, he and Hawkins can be rotated thru the forwardline/ruck/bench. It also allows West the chance he craves. If West just can't handle the level then bring in the big Daw. One must remember that Hawkins rucked against a couple of B graders and we may not want him getting belted up against the best ruckmen in the AFL

We have 8 Weeks to use , so there is plenty of time to try a few things.

I would agree with this...particularly in the era of athletic around the ground ruckmen we have in the AFL, I think West would be a good counter balance to Blake and a good team. I suppose given Otto is out for a while, whether he gets a chance will show whether the club believes he has a future.

Don't mind if he does some ruck work, BUT, his real danger to any opposition is as a big lead up forward, crashing packs and the like with his considerable size.

Think Simpson or West need to get game time, Ottens is an uncertain commodity these days, we really carn't wait on this one.

Sensible! This talk of HAwkins playing long term in the ruck is way off the mark. Thompson doesnt want that and I can see why. Maybe one more week...but Simpson...maybe West...will get their chance and soon!

Well mate...laugh away...but if you took the time to listen to Mark Thompsons press conference you would understand that he said exactly that....ie. He made it quite clear that he doesn't want Hawkins in the ruck long term.

Thompson (quote) ..."I dont see it as a long term thing but it was good to see him get into the game.....

I want to see young ruckmen...specialist ruckmen....getting an opportunity to develop within a top quality side. Thats why I want to see other options given a run. Whats the problem with that??

Yes pal..people do say ridiculous things on this site....usually one's that don't do enough research, or just like to open their gob so they sound smart, when in fact they are just plain ignorant.

Go and listen to Thompson's press conference, then go and wipe the egg off your face.

oh....and have a wonderful day.:thumbsu:

COz he's a vital element of our forward line, that's why the current success.
That's how the smalls get amongst it, he's imposing, along with the other big guys and draws the defence.
Just makes everyone so much harder to cover, that's what's been going on lately!!!!

The Age pondered this same question today.

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/pod-has-arrived-and-with-him-a-problem-of-rucking-proportions-20100510-uopt.html

HAVING realised that the James Podsiadly fairytale doesn't end with the line, ''And at the age of 28, he finally played a senior AFL game'', the question left hanging is, what does it mean for Tom Hawkins? Think a little deeper and you may find yourself asking, what does it mean for Mark Blake?
