Yeah well done to Hawthorn of getting the early picks in the top 25. Wish you all the best for next year and i hope Clarkeson gets another contract. He said he was going for younger players and he is and in another few years yous will be a very good team.

Thats the plan. Clarkson needs to deliver more in 2006 than he did this year.

If the Hawks get around the 9-12 mark on the ladder.... and trade well next year and their young players develop... Then Roughead and Franklin become key position players in 2 years time, they will then have 3 years in the system... the hawks could be playing finals witha bit of luck...

I totally agree...our time is once again nearly upon us, back up there where the Mighty Hawks should always be. It's all falling into place, young talent, offloading older (has-been) players, a new president - I'll see you all down at Glenferrie after the Granny in a couple years to celebrate our success!!!

hey hawks88 dont you think the hawks in 89 were better? 88 was just a whitewash :p
I just liked the 88 team better, I thought we were miles ahead of every other team in the league, not because other teams weren't any good, but because we were just the most skilled, toughest, smartest most intimidating footballers. The same of which can obviously be said for 89, I don't know...both fantastic teams I just always look back on that 88 team as my favourite. Maybe because I was a HUGE Tony Hall fan and he was injured with his knee and didn't play the 89 game

Either way, I feel blessed to have lived through that era...that was when I first started getting into footy (9-10 yo) and I regularly go back and watch tapes to remember just how good the team, and individual players were. I think Peter Curran is hugely underated as a player - maybe because there was so many stand-out superstars alongside him

Clarko is sticking to his guns on youth and is in the early stages painting a rosy picture for our future. I believe clubs like Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond, Fremantle and others from lasts season's fifth position down will use Clarko's template but when they wake up to what he has been up to presently we will have leap-frogged over that mob and be light years ahead in success.

Somewhat harsh! He has been with us only twelve months. IMO his work on the U-turn has been pretty impressive thus far.

I agree with you about Peter Curren. I was sad at the time he was shipped off to the Brisbane Bears whom I watched up here at Carrara when I wasn't down in Melbourne for Hawks' games.

And talking about watching tapes, mate, presently I am in the midst of transferring the many tapes of games in my library from VCR to CD. The problem is it is a slower process than what it should be because I cant help myself sitting down and going through scenes of so many premierships cups being lofted into the air by our legendary captains and coaches.

Salary cap could be massive issue though lads in about 3 years time. Will the young men sacrifice cash for the club. I hope Clarkson is teaching them things such as loyalty, leadership etc.. otherwise they will all go to clubs offering the bigger pay packet and this development will be waisted.

Salary cap is an issue now, let alone three years time.

At least in three years we may have a justified reason to be worry, as it is atm, how is the side that's performed like it has for the past two seasons close to the limit on it's salary cap? :(

Meh,

I don't see why we should even bother coming along to draft day.

The experts on BF have already assured us that the whole draft is a total waste of time given the appalling dearth of talent on offer.

Really it is an issue at which 16 clubs have to work with. Clubs can be just as unloyal to players as the latter can be to clubs. The all mighty dollar is the root of all evil.

I would like to believe that Clarkson and all others of positions of authority will instlll a sense of loyalty at both ends of the club's spectrum. Be leaders in the AFL on alleviating this problem associated with money versus loyalty.

I think I'm dreaming though.
