With respect the Hawthorn Football Club is not clearing $24m profit from its poker machine operations...

HAWTHORN - Up from $23.3m to $24.3 (two venues)
CARLTON – Up from $17.6m to $18.4 (four venues)
COLLINGWOOD – Up from $12.2m to $13.2 (two venues)
ESSENDON – Down from $11.9m to $11.6m (two venues)
MELBOURNE – Up from $10.3m to $10.4m (two venues)
GEELONG – Up from $5.2m to $6.3m (two venues)
WESTERN BULLDOGS – Up from $5.9m to $6.1m (two venues)
RICHMOND – Down from $5.4m to $5.3m (one venue)

I think the important word in that Hawkk post was profit.

At a guess & without reading, it's more likely that revenue was up from $23.3m to $24.3m.

EDIT: If it was $24.4m profit from pokies & we finished with only a $2m profit for the year they're we're really fu**ed.

I suspect it's the revenue number, but unsure.

Hawks profit last year was $5m

Lets filter this data to clubs and number of venues. Hawthorn are one of six that have same number of venues!!!

Yeah that article is saying the venue's took $24mil out of peoples pockets via Pokies, though I'm not sure if that is total revenue for the venue's ie inclusive of food, drinks etc

Still revenue is not profit

It’s a throughput number.

Not particularly relevant to anything - none of profit/loss, capital deployed or risk.

It measures a level of punter misery I suppose, but even then it ignores pay out, as I understand it.

Its not a throughput number, that would be closer to $200m at least.
Its operator revenue.
You misunderstand it.

Two in my town are within 100m.
Also the traveling gold and silver exchange lob in the same proximity.

The $24 mill is profit we banked.

We banked $24m in *profit* from pokies??!

I’m not that anxious to get in to an argument about it, but that’s just not right.

Here’s the same number properly reported as *revenue* or ‘gambler losses’ (not profit):

Once you subtract costs the likely profit from these gambler losses is more like $2m. We don’t report the number and I don’t know it - if you have it, please let us know.

The ~$2m would gel well with the reported sale price of these sorts of assets.

Cheers.

I'd be beyond surprised if it was $24m in pure profit. If that were the case we could pay off the entire Dingley HQ project in just a few years of holding on to them.

Yeah my understanding is we bank about $2 million. It is not 24 million.
