He did do his last knee on the hallowed turf at the MCG.

I remember it all too well RR, but even so, surely the MCG is "safer" to play on than most of the VFL grounds, no?

Actually got a lot more to do with his disproporpionately skinny legs in comparison to his upper body.

Agree, though the standard of different playing surfaces still plays a factor.

Considering we play in Adelaide in round 1, i reckon Max won't debut round 1. My worry with Max is the injury worry. If he does go down, we only have Hale to ruck the rest of the game, which is a huge problem if he goes down early like the last time he did his knee. I would actually feel safer to have Renouf rucking.

Yep I'd start with Renouf and Hale and give Max a spell at BH to see if he can get through a few games.

The surfaces aren't that bad and if his knee can't hold up on them, he won't survive the punishment of an AFL contest.

Fingers crossed for the Big Fella that all his bad luck is behind him and he has a fantastic season.

Max will be eased into things, I suspect. Build strength, improve technique, basically rebuild him from scratch like the 6-million dollar man.

A quick query on Max to those with better knowledge of coming back from long periods out of the game - given he has only played a handful of games since he was drafted, he would need some time to re-learn the game won't he?

I know he looked pretty good in the games played at the end of 2009, but he must have a lot to pick up again or would training provide enough???

If Gumby's any example (Bailey would have another 3 inches on top of him, but is already built so it sorta evens out); he was absolutely rusty in his first hit-out; reasonably rusty for another month after that; after probably 6 or 10 weeks he was in OK nick.
