If you'd told me before the game that we'd lose by 23 points I'd have thought, yeah, boys doing ok. I was pretty scared with the injuries we're carrying and the lack of experience in defence that this would be a ten goal blowout. Coming in I wanted to think that when it comes to Hawk/Cats games form doesn't matter but I couldn't raise a lot of optimism about it throughout the week.

There's not much point ignoring our loss of personnel to complain that we can't match it with teams higher on the ladder or that we're not running out quarters, because duh, it's like having a finger in the dyke trying to keep the flood at bay. We're not shithouse but we're not world-beaters and this is a pretty long way from our strongest lineup, what can we expect? And for what it's worth I think Geelong are a contender this year.

We'll still beat the Blues and we'll be 3 out of 6 next week.

Thank Christ for Henderson.

It doesnt bode well that so early in the season we are playing injured. Smith, Cousins, Mirra all battled today but couldn't quite overcome knocks and soreness. Thought McEvoy was superb until he went down.

Really disappointed in the efforts of Nash and Morrison. Shiels and Stratton back next week could be a straight swap.

Is the Cousins experiment over?
Cousins has played 4 solid games and one bad game. I’d persist. He will benefit greatly when Mitchell, Shiels and Burgoyne come back giving him a bit more freedom and maybe another midfield option coming off the bench.

Morrison should be under the gun as he’s gone backwards this year.

A Fair effort by the young Hawks. Six players 21 or under that played today. They at least fought it out right to the end.

Smith seems to be playing injured, just lacking his spark as we know he can produce, thought Brand did ok.

Big pluses to Big Boy,Hendo and Worpedo.

Bad: Mira, Harry, Cousins, Nash & playing Smith injured

Positives: Liked Brand's attack on the ball, Hendo was great again, Hodgey's (I think that is how we should refer to Mitch Lewis) attack on the ball was great

We seemed to keep fighting back but couldn't sustain anything long enough to pull away.

Not a bad effort, I'm very worried we'll let teams back in to any lead, the fitness levels seem below par. Perhaps it's more a concentration thing, but 6-7 red time goals is a worry.

Asides from that, there's plenty of work to do, just gotta keep plugging away.

Mitchell Lewis needs to stay in, Nashy and Morrison need to find form in the VFL.

Stratts in for Mirra.
A small (take your pick) in for Nash.
Shiels in for Morrison if possible.

Nash & Morrison will be the main scapegoats for this game - rightfully so. But I’m more disappointed from our stars in Smith, Breust, Gunston and Wingard. Wingers is still learning the structures and had no preseason, so his down performance is somewhat understandable. But the other three are both our leaders and the ones who needed to stand up in Mitchell’s absence. Combined with our bottom 6 hardly contributing (a few players like Cuz and Mirra were down) and I’m surprised we didn’t lose by 10 goals.

It was really individual efforts that led to scores. McEvoy (hopefully a minor injury), Henderson, O’Meara (tagged today) and Worpel have lifted big time. Brand & Lewis performed well. Poppy had his best game (despite being held at every occasion).

Fought it out. Few costly errors which resulted in goals. For the love of god, keep Mitch Lewis in. Brand stood up extremely well.

Cats aren’t the team to beat, their supporters will be left feeling shock come September (if they make it), as per usual!

Hoping the best RE Big Boy, hip flexors aren’t good. Can’t have an injury free game, can we?

dead set.. people whinging when we play that well with six of our best 22 injured and essentially playing half a vfl team.. relax guys! I actually thought we had a pretty decent game.. cats have everyone they could possibly want playing as well.

I think our second half of the season will be very interesting, especially if we get a cheeky mitchell return.
