We don't need a KP forward who can play second fiddle to Lewis.
We need a KPF who is better than Lewis.

Roughead-level ability is what we need.
Lewis is somewhere between Tim Boyle and Nick Holland for ability.

Hawks people talk up Mitch Lewis like he is the answer. He is a piece to our puzzle if fully fit but we need an upgrade on Mitch for when we are playing finals.

For body size and shape Lewis is the most similar to David Hale I have seen that could potentially play that Ruck/forward hybrid role we desperately need, so we are not carrying two rucks that offer zero around the ground. If Burge can get a an uninterrupted crack at him, I would love to see him add some mobility and become a threat inside 50 and also offer us something around the ground as a ruck.

Mitch Lewis was pick 76. You can find diamonds in the rough. We won’t find them if we take two players and re-rookie someone. We need to delist at least five plus Lynch to just draft three plus save two spots for the MSD. We need to keep being aggressive with our list build. Anyone who is not going to be in our next premiership team needs to go.
Wingard
Jeka
Greene
Kosi
Morris
Lynch
O’Hara also looks like he won’t make it.

One year extensions for Long and Serong.

This will happen but it won't be because he is playing in the Ruck. Lewis is our KP. He is underrated at ground level has had a few games where his hands have been great and he has been able to provide for others in that forward line. He is also one of the most accurate kicks for goal in the side. He is not playing in the ruck

Lewis never rucks. The club does not see him as a Hale type. We have recruited Ramsden and Ryan for that role.

My concern for him is watching him being beaten badly 1 out inside 50 at times. Taylor and Weitering both gave him a lesson and Ben Mckay also had the better of him for most of the game.

I thought Balta was crucial for the Tigers in the second half and won multiple 1 on 1 contests.

Would love for him to add some mobility and get up the ground and give us some flexibility when needed.

Yeah that’s what happened to Hale early in his career is my point. He was stuck in the goal square for Norf. He became a great footballer once he was able to play the mix.

I don’t think we should move Jeka on and I know I’m probably in the minority. He’s 22 great size sublime skills everyone is rallying around DGB who was picked in the same draft and shown no more. I think we keep both unless they unlock better draft hands. As things stand we lose Lynch to retirement which I assume frees up a spot for Ryan who that have to give a contract to surely for next year. That means we need 3 list spots and unless we get early picks in, I would take pick 3, McCabe and re-rookie someone we delist. We have had a lot of turnover we don’t need deep cuts again and surely we err on the side of kpp. For the 3 cuts Morris is 1, Morrison is 2 and Finn 3 and the re-rookie one of them.
How do you cut a bloke who's contracted for another year?

Lewis would be on track for a 60 goal season had been able to stay on the park. He does everything we need him to do, but he's also regularly double teamed and suffered from some bog awful I50 ball movement some weeks.

Every other club would love to have him.

But he's also turning 25 this year and and doesn't have the versatility that some of the other big forwards of the game have. So he definitely needs a star alongside him.

Mate Franklin got beaten one on one inside 50 numerous times by specific opponents. Taylor is fricken star. Hawkins, Lynch and Cameron struggle against him. This is when you need other options.

WTF am I reading?

Left is Lewis. Right is Cameron.

3 disposals the difference. The rest of he metrics are extremely close.

Imagine if Lewis had a fatty Porkin's demanding a defender.

Lewis would be on track for a 55-60 goal season if he was fit.

As a solo keyforward...who spends a huge amount of time up the ground because we don't have a CHF.

I can’t really agree with anything in this post.

He’s averaging more :
Kicks
Marks
Handballs
Goals
Tackles
Inside 50’s
Effective disposals
Marks inside 50
One percenters

….than Tom Hawkins at the same age, while also averaging less time on ground in a much worse team with poorer forward entries.

He is averaging the same Goals as J Reiwoldt at the same age, and more marks and disposals from less time on ground.

Mitch Lewis is a 60+ goal a year forward. A bit of luck with his body and a decent number 2 and he could be better than that.

Least of our worries. Short term a mature age recruit like Ricardi would be handy over the next 2-3 seasons but long term we need to hope one of Ramsden or Ryan make it.

60+ is a huge call.

I am not a stats man, rather someone that watches a lot of footy so correct me if I am wrong, but I vaguely recall Riewoldt kicking 70s and 60s when Richmond were an absolute rabble early in his career or am I thinking of his premiership years?

Lewis does extremely well as our only dangerous KPF but can effectively be double teamed every week because few of our other forwards ( nor rucks) pose an aerial threat. If an elite kick like Amon or Sicily puts the ball to his advantage he will usually mark it and convert. Conversely someone like Worpel banging it in high and long from a centre stoppage will be to the advantage of the intercepting KPDs.
Blind Freddy can see we desperately need another quality KPF as a bare minimum. Also a ruckman like Hale or McEvoy who were both excellent contested marks would be more than handy resting forward. At the moment we don’t have this luxury but I am sure we will work on it.

If I were looking at a player reported to be looking at their opportunities that could help elevate us it would be TDK.. We lack a mobile ruck and a ruck that is dangerous as a forward… I would be offering Meek or Reeves and our second rounder.. If it’s our first or future first forget it.. I think TDK and Ramsden could be a great combo, with TDK 70% ruck and not a complete liability the other 30%..TDK wants to get paid and we have cap space.. I think TDK will end up a very good ruck at the level of Rohan Marshall or better.. All this being said I think Sammy likes spending his cap space elsewhere..

Yep fair post. Some of our mids delivery at times is below par for sure.

One headache we're going to have is that while our mids have performed beyond expectations this year they all lack the foot skills when delivering into the 50.
Nash is reliable enough but doesn't have the skill to pinpoint targets.
Worpel just bombs it, often without looking.
Day is a fantastic field kick but for some reason will bomb it long 9/10 times into the 50.
Newcombe can hit 60 meter lasers but in attempting to do so can completely fluff it.
Ward & Mackenzie have the required foot skills but how many mids can you fit? Wardy is being pushed to a wing and Mackenzie can't crack the side. CMac is starting to hit those kicks but is relegated to the HFF.
No clue what the solution is. Perhaps with greater belief + just playing together improvement will occur.

Hi folks,
Assuming Footywire is up to date, Ned Long is out of contract end of 2023. Has this been updated, or do you think he'll get another contract?
Cheers.

Long is out of contract at the end of the year. There is debate as to whether he will be kept even though he has been tearing up Box Hill. Personally I would renew him as he's a big bodied guy but the issue is that there are others like Conor Nash (incumbent), Henry Hustwaite and Copper Stephens with the same kind of role.
