I really do hope that Serong isn't leaving. Serong should be the last player we let go of this offseason. We are looking for a partner next to Blanck in defense; there are very few options on the market, and we have a lack of key defenders as is. Serong played quite well, I thought, in defence for Box Hill this year, and he certainly played better than Jeka did against Gold Coast in the VFL preliminary final. He also impressed me in round 24 against Fremantle. He had 15 disposals and 7 marks. Denver Grainger-Barras has been criticized for not getting enough disposals and being involved enough in the game. You couldn't accuse Serong of that. My hope is that Serong will supersede Frost at some point next season and make the CHB spot his own, unless Will McCabe can come in and do that. Serong has many attributes that you find very rarely in players. If he doesn't succeed as a defender, he could well succeed in another part of the field due to his range of abilities. As I said above, we cannot let him leave.

Yeah 100%, especially after his growth spurt!

Spot on!
I wouldn't listen to a word of it. Serong has done everything right since being moved back and getting thru his health issues. Looks to be a player of the future comfortable at senior level and good with the ball in hand.

Brocky and kosi leaving with apprently no big mature recruits suggests less pressure on developing players spots

Unless there incoming with these players, we did get players for both Mitchell and omeara
Im pretty sure we will try and get players in.
Such a gap in small forwards between Breust/Wingard and Butler and co that we want to be small forwards.

It's not the right time for us to bring players in because we are ranked 16th, there is hardly any player movement so trade-in options are low.

Last year I think Meek was a great pick up - and that's the kind of player we'll be looking for. Someone who is mature enough to come in and play as needed, but is still very early in the development cycle. Stephens the same type of pick up but not as good of a player.

This is where Chol is a great option. Playing in the seconds, can kick a goal, hasn't quite found his place.

The league is an interesting place at the moment.
There's a new wave of Key forwards that are almost 200cm (King x2, McKay, Curnow, Hipwood, Ugle Hagan, Mitch Lewis etc).
But there's not a surge of gorilla defenders - most clubs are trying to find corresponding defenders that are tall and fast and mobile.

Old school gorillas could pull, hold, scrap, scrape, tug, punch, pinch. Now they can't do anything, so they need to be mobile interceptors who prevent it getting there without contact.

Shame really :)

Spot on. Chol is the ideal pick up for us.

another grand final to be contested between two sides with average ruckmen. I am very comfortable with Reeves developing as our ruck and am confident he can do the job required moving forward. Unless you’ve got a superstar like Gawn, rucks need only be very tall role players. Our second ruck should be a guy who is primarily a forward. If Chol comes in or Ramsden develops, that would be ideal

I couldn’t quite name the visual feast that is mason cox. Today someone posted newborn baby giraffe

Nailed it.

Reeves and meek move so much better

I think one thing that marked the Clarkson rebuild was the fact we stripped back to the bare bones and made sure our key positions were bonafide talents who could eventually become “A Grade”.

FF - Roughead
CHF - Lewis
FP - Breust, Rioli
Mid - Mitch, Lewis
Wing - Smith, Hill

In the positions where we identified weaknesses, we actively recruited for players we thought who had previously, or could reach eventually that level

CHB - Gibson
Ruck - McEvoy
FB - Lake / Frawley

My only concern with some of the names mentioned recently is that I’m not sure I’m confident that they have what it takes to reach those levels. McKay (thank goodness we didn’t overpay for), has statistically shown he’s nothing more than a middling player in terms of what he’s done to date.

I have similar concerns with Chol, if we were to get him. Now a good coach backs in his system to get the most out of players, but this is again where I’d almost prefer we went back to draft hard to try and fill some holes.

Pick 3 - Watson (solves a key small forward hole)

Trading into first round with multiple future picks - O’Sullivan/ Caddy (would solve for a key, structural KPF hole in our list)

Caddy/O’Sullivan
Lewis
Newk
Sicily/DGB
Blank/McCabe

Caddy/O’Sullivan/McCabe would need time, but that’s a spine that instills so much more confidence in me over the long term to develop into a top tier spine in the competition if we are patient.

We can build around it.
