"It would be a wise suggestion to plan (for) at least two of the rookie list spots with mature-age players who have mature bodies. And we've got a pre-season selection as well."

The Hawks are likely to select former Saint Brent Guerra in the pre-season draft but are also eyeing discarded Roo Michael Stevens and Tom Logan, formerly of Brisbane, who could be taken as a rookie.

----------

Interesting piece, but it makes sense. Having a couple of AFL-ready rookies would be a good idea given the ability we have to promote them for a LTI.

Guerra is only 23 and rookies can only be 18-22 (?) so they'll still be relatively young.

Dunno. VFL guys? Delisted 20 year old-odd guys. A mix of U18 guys and VFL/otherwise guys would suit me fine.

I'm quietly warming to the idea of having Guerra at the club .He is one of only a select few in the comp that have the ability to really cause physical to damage to an opponent with a fair hip-shoulder or legitamite tackle ,we haven't had anyone like that for years ,would be very handy coming off the bench i think.I doubt his contract would be all that expensive either.

Guerra is an ok addition for mine, just a solid body to have in the forward line.

Maybe try to pick up a VFL ruckman as a rookie to immediately promote, there'd be some ok options there and that's the position we have the least depth, although bailey sounds an exciting prospect.

People are saying Guerra would be good as a crash bang player for us but our main weakness i beleive is pace and Michael Stevens is extremely quick. Neither are great players but if we are to pick one up i would prefer Stevens. We may still get both in the PSD.

Hows Ben Kanes ankle? is he training fully yet? Would seem to fit mature body criteria to an extent and might be a good rookie pick

We only have one PSD pick, and it seems determined that Guerra is our pick. Much better player than Guerra too.

There's not really that many ready made ruckmen in the VFL. Saints got one of them in Rixy, and Eames is 26. Robert Young is a decent young player, as is Justin Crow but neither could step straight in. We may yet take a ruckman, but I'd say we'll persist with Taylor as the backup and work Robbie back into the fold.

Pardon my continued ignorance but are we talking about Anthony Steven's brother?

*please say no - please say no - please say no*
Yes we are but only because the article in the Age says we could be looking at him as previously posted. As i don't know really anything about Logan i said i would prefer Stevens over him and Guerra. We are obviously picking up a mature aged player which has been reported and because we passed on pick 65 in the ND.

I agree either of them are not much chop.
