HAWKS Still hold Best PREMIERSHIP Strike Rate.... How long can they keep top spot?

Even Giants or GC are not out of contention if they could grab a couple of flags in the next 2 or 3 years ???

Two flags against 17 oppo teams in the first 20 years of your existence and you are sitting on 170, second to only where the Hawks sit now. Remember though every year you do not win a flag your points reduce.

If those Suns or Giants flags come by their 18th season or sooner, either of those latest expansion teams would likely go straight to the top. If Hawks don't win one by thier 20th seasons and either win 2, they will also go ahead I think, depending of course on what other clubs achieve. However, Premierships are not especially easy to win in an 18 team competition, so it would take some doing.

Richmond for example have fallen from 136.33 points after 2020 to 133.79 points after 2022.

Yep, that's the beauty of stats brought to you by the Meteoric Stats Sheet Analyst...

errrrrmmmm, we are in a Premiership strike rate thread.

A first year team could rightly take the lead.

But in Fadge world Dougy Walters wicket first ball bloody bewdy one ofr none is a terrible strike rate. :drunk:

You are a statistical midget Fadge, get your mum and dad to explain it to you.

This thread is, yet again, choc-full of #hawkderangementsyndrome, people falling all over themselves and tying themselves in knots attempting to bring us down and belittle our achievements.

The fact that we rose above decades of early mediocrity only makes what we've done since even more sweet.

Tall poppy syndrome is funny, as always....

Yet Carlton won:

5 flags in 28 years in an 8-10 team comp. 18% s/r

9 flags in 62 years in a 12 team comp. 14.5% s/r

And 2 flags in 36 years once the competition went beyond 12 teams....5.5% s/r

So it seems by your reckoning the Blues found them easier to win when they were harder to win and harder to win when they were easier to win. :drunk:
Well the finals system in the early years from 1925-1971 sucked.

4 finals spots in a 12 team league.

1972-86 was slightly better. 5 finals spots with a 12 team league.

Had there been 5 finals spots from like 1931 onwards.... Hawks and dogs would of played more finals.

It would of sucked finishing 5th from 1925-71. Missing out on finals because of being one win short or percentage short

Hawks got that impressive flag strike record hey

I reckon one other record they might hold - shortest time period of a Premier - going to a Wooden Spoonist

1961 Hawthorn Premiers 1965 Hawthorn - Wooden Spoon
Well hawks fans never bring up how many finals they played from 1925-56.

Also.... Eagles won a flag in 2006 and won a spoon in 2010.

Yet there remains very few times in history where a team has not finished in the top 4 placings and won the flag. Maybe twice?

Actually about that.....

theres a few sides that have done that. There is also a few that have gone from Elim final spot of 4th or 5th to a prelim final. thats 2 finals wins to get there.

1st season of the top 5 was 1972.

Saints in 1972 finished 5th and made a prelim final belting 5th placed essendon. then beating collingwood in a semi final before narrowly losing a prelim final to carlton.

Tigers in 1975 finished 4th. They beat collingwood narrowly in an elim final. then narrowly beat carlton in a semi final then narrowly lost to North in a prelim final.

In 1980, Richmond won the flag. their opponents collingwood finished 5th, won 3 finals to make the grand eating North, Carlton and geelong.

In 1983, Essendon finished 4th. Elim final spot again. Beat Carlton, Fitzroy and North Melbourne to make the grand final and lost to the hawks.

in 1984, Collingwood finished 4th, beat Fitzroy and Carlton then got thrashed by essendon in a prelim final.

In 1986, Fitzroy finished 4th. Narrowly beat essendon, narrowly beat sydney and lost to the hawks in a prelim final.

in 1987 Demons got 5th. beat North melbourne in an elim final then swans in a semi final. Then Narrowly lost a prelim final to the hawks.

In 1988, Demons got 5th. Narrowly beats west coast in an elim final, Beat collingwood by 13 points in a semi. beat Carlton 120-98 in a prelim final. got smashed by hawks by 96 points.
