It's a seriously long bow to draw to declare a 40+ point result over a single umpiring decision.

I'm biased but I thought the Sun's had the rub of the green for most of the day and the stats would reflect that.

Saving up for buckets of yours come the end of the year when you embarrassingly crash out again 😉

Your obsession with us is quite bewildering.

You’ll fall to bits when the pressure is on so I’m not too worried. Got a team of downhill skiers that sook it up when things don’t go their way.

You clearly only watch for the umpiring.

Port were running over us, and we steadied the ship and won.

Looks like GC were about to get in front too, and we dug in and belted them in the end.

We've proven multiple times this year we are able absorb pressure and send it back the other way. Basically the opposite of
down hill skiers.

Direct correlation with our contested numbers being the worst in the league, even in successful years. Compare that to a side like Richmond who played a very scrappy style and you get their numbers. Might help looking for a bit of context next time champion.

We all know what the context is. You only started these Hawthorn game day umpire rants after we took Barrass and your genius list management team took our future pick instead of Carlton's.

You were given the key ones that swung the momentum. GC were all over you before you were gifted 3 goals on the fly.
Yeah but let's not forget half their score were from free kicks 😂, we had 13 for an entire game and your somehow picking a few out you think turned the game 😂, what a load of crap if the Suns were good enough they would have run over us anyway but they didn't instead we flogged them from that point onwards. It only got close because we played poorly for a good 30-35 minutes leaving the door ajar for them in the 1st place. We were nearly 50 points up in the 2nd quarter mate in total control.

Misdiagnosis IMO. If you want universal overreaction to umpiring, visit Geelong gameday threads.

Hawthorn threads are dominated by angry Eagles supporters for the most part.

Perhaps, but if we win another flag in the next 2-3 years it will not just be WC fans.

BTW, in last week's Hawthorn game day thread you said we kept getting teams at the right time and had a comparable season to Cats with only our close win against you separating us.

Is that still your assessment? GC team was - on paper - stronger this week than the one that belted you, and Port made Geelong look silly this week (and could have been far uglier, given Port had double your scoring shots). I guess you'll point to you getting those teams at their home ground, but those are fairly large performance differences to put them down to home ground alone (and Marvel isn't our home either).

So far your only win away from the cattery is Eagles, which was gather round, so also Eagle's away game. We've had a handy bunch of home games ourselves, and lost one of our few away games so far, but I think it is far to say after this weekend, we definitely deserve to be a game or two (and %) clear of Geelong .

You come across as insecure by trying to frame everything against how Geelong are going. Based on this week's results, Hawthorn are clearly going better. Last week the form lines were similar. New information is one of the most effective ways to cause a change. If Hawthorn lose next week and Geelong win by 100 points, it won't retrospectively mean Geelong had an equivalent form line a week earlier.

You were happy to join into last weeks Gameday thread and tell us how Hawthorn and Geelong had "Similar starts to the season overall.". That was your statement, not mine, just wanting to see if you wanted to reassess after this weekend, and I'm happy to see you are.

Last week our form lines were similar. This week they aren't. You're trying to turn something very simple into something extremely complicated. The new information doesn't retrospectively change the position a week ago. Someone as clever as you ought to understand such an obvious concept.

Hawthorn are on different playing field to Geelong this season. Realistically, they should have beaten us by 3 goals a couple of weeks ago and today's performance reaffirmed their premiership aspirations.

Of all the teams in the competition, the side who tends to make the most of their chances is Hawthorn. Pains me to say it but they're not in this caper to have the most wins of any team this past two decades. Hawthorn are built for solely winning premierships.

Last week you'd still been thumped by GC. Last week Hawthorn were the only team to have beaten Sydney. - and remain so. None of those things have changed.

The main thing that has changed is that what was obvious last week, has become more obvious this week, and that it has got harder to just couch the difference in form lines on in caveats on Hawthorn's wins (opponents missing players), and Geelong's losses (Geelong missing dangerfield).

The other thing that is becoming increasingly obvious is that Geelong seems to have trouble winning away from their unusually shaped home ground.

So many broken brains about the umpiring today, when they were largely unsighted.

Never change Bigfooty, or eagles fans.

You could admit that you were wrong last week, and this week just made it more obvious. That would be the right level of dumb.
You're being childish now, and haven't correctly disputed anything I said a week ago. Hawthorn had a great win since and Geelong a terrible loss. Why are you holding a pathetic grudge over it? You seem deeply insecure.

Since when did holding you to account on caveats you'd made on hawthorn's wins (and Geelong's losses) last week become a 'pathetic grudge' and signs of being deeply insecure? The fact that you've gone the man when your assumptions were challenged makes you seem like someone who doesn't want to admit they got it wrong, and frankly more than just a little insecure.

Wrong. Similar form lines last week and not after this weekend.

You're even using my own line at the end there. So lazy.

Wrong. Similar form lines last week and not after this weekend.

Only similar when you throw a bunch of caveats into the mix, which is my main problem with what you said last week. We were the only team to have beaten Sydney, but you brushed that aside due to a couple of outs to Sydney. We'd had a close game to a lowly rated Port. You'd also got thumped by GC, which was apparently ok, because you had outs (like Dangerfield), same for your close loss against us.

I'm not sure if you're been deliberately obtuse, or just naturally obtuse, but my point is that this week is more than just your claimed "formlines converged due to results this week". It is about this week informing us that your caveats from last week were perhaps overemphasised, and that the form lines were already quite different. Namely:
  • Dangerfield may be cooked, and being out might actually be a win for you.
  • Sydney are extremely good, and our win is still very impressive even with Sydney's important outs when we played them.
  • Port are not as bad as people thought, and if they'd kicked straight would have beaten Geelong by a good deal more.

So Geelong and Hawthorn had similar form lines if you ignore:
  • Hawthorn was the only team to beat a rampant Sydney.
  • Hawthorn had beaten Geelong (yes, by only 1 point, but with 6 more scoring shots, and at the risk of enraging you further, nearly half the free kicks).
  • Hawthorn had a gutsy win against a Port that based on this week is actually not as bad as some of their previous results suggest - especially when Horne-Franics and Butters both have good games at the same time.

As I keep saying and you seem too obtuse to absorb, you were wrong last week, and this week simply made it obvious. Rather than admit that, you've thrown about a string of personal insults, and claimed "everything's different now".

You're even using my own line at the end there. So lazy.

So I'm lazy, deeply insecure and childish. I get you've just lost a game you probably thought you were going to win, but you are coming across as thin skinned and fragile. Given you seem to prefer to go the man than discuss the specifics of your claims last week. I'll leave the discussion as is.

At the end of our discussion last week, we basically agreed that the form lines were fairly similar and it was a very civil conversation.

I'm fairly disappointed in how you've conducted yourself a week later, in some desperate gotcha attempt. Anyway, I'm not going to hold it against you. I know this is out of character.

I'm even willing to take the moral high ground by ignoring the lazy and childish adhom that is now flooding your overly emotional posts.

Like we embarrassingly crashed out last year, making a PF from 7th and beating 2 higher placed teams interstate? 🤪
