I realise it's only a pre-season game, but I'd dearly love to win this game and start the year as a winner. Hasn't happened much over the past decade. Best of luck to all the players.

Watch out for Tom Murphy.

Gun.
Very much looking forward to seeing Murphy play. Heard some raps around the place from various watchers of u/18 footy.. but has been pretty quiet since coming to us with his injury and more exposure on roughy, buddy and lewis.

Great win. Love watching the hawks win. Love the Hawks in general (for obvious reasons). Love watching Richmond lose. Good hard tackling game, plenty of stars (Jacobs and Guerra?). Deserved it.

Congrats.

Lots of good things for mine.

The first half was as good as could be expected. Predominantly good skills and wonderful, constant pressure on them at both ends of the ground.

The second half was poor but possibly served a very, very useful purpose for us. We went to the break likely winners and possibly took things a little easily while the Tigers obviously revved up and almost took the game away - a valuable lesson for our young side. Most importantly, we rose when we had to.

Jacobs' continuing knockers must start to reconsider. There is every chance that he will be the general in defence this year, and a very reliable and capable one at that.

Mark Williams. 5 goals and a bit of time up the ground. Three goals in the last quarter when the chips were down (admittedly one was a gift). Silk. When will he get the credit he deserves? (He didn't seem to be suffering from sleep deprivation - there's a relief!)

Although nothing more nor less than a pre-season game, I don't think we could have asked for a better opening hit-out.

a couple of things to come out of todays game.

guerra - a link man who likes to hand out big hits. just what we needed in the team. glad we picked him up.

young - really impressed with clinton young, only made a couple of errors by foot but i reall like the way he runs the lines and some of his pressure on the ball carriers when the tigers were coming out fo defence was great also.

boyle - has jade rawling(when fit) written all over him. the way he goes about it, and the way he moves. very important that we get keep him on the park.

campbell is a monster, ladson was solid, hodge was great as per usual and the fact that roughie and franklin got stuck into bowden was great to see. intimidation is something we need these two towers to be producing.

other than that, the fact we were challenged, fell behind then struck back is a good sign for the team this year.

^spot on... It looks like guerra will be filling in the role that Hodge seemed to do across half back, which releaves hodge to help bring the ball further up ground.

I was really impressed with Campbell im not a fan of his but he looked solid down back its good to see.

I think buddy still needs to learn to take a contested mark if he wants to be an option up forward but untill then I think he should push further up ground.

Roughie looked nice up forward took a good contested mark floating infront of his opponents and franklin.

Willow still looks good.

but Boyle was great. Its good to see finnally a CHF leading at the right time, making space with great hands. He is the man we need at CHF lets hope he doenst get injured.

Lets hope theres nothing wrong with Spida? It didnt look like he came off with anything lets hope clarko is just resting him

I really liked what I saw in Tim Boyle; moved really well, 6 solid one grab marks, found space to lead into and was composed during disposal.
Being from WA, I never saw him in play for the Gelong Falcons or Box Hill in 2003(?), I can now see what you guys have been saying.
I actually see him going past Franklin. Buddy has a lot of learning to do whereas Boyle seems to have kept on learing during his injuries.
Anyway it's great to have both of them. Lets be patient though.

what a great performance, well done young hawks.

Boyle - awesome game, well presented and great grabs
Guerra - great footskills and not scared to have a go
Miller - slippery
Cambpell - great effort (harry kewell wants his hair back)
Williams - solid leading, marking and shooting
Croad - nice work on their forwards

mitchell was not scared, hodge was good, ozzy and ladson were tough, lewis, roughie and buddy stood up.

great all round effort, the best bit was the hip and shoulder on richo in the oppening minute.

Great Win !
I liked the win a few points,

Croad only broke even with richo only because richo didnt kick straight.

Franklin was only OK at best but I like the way he moves.

Roughhead was very good.

Williams dropped simple easy marks but still had a good game, he played great but with improvement could have had 7 or 8.

The usuals were great like Hodge, Mitchell.

Everyone can have down games especially at the start. Some players can step right in others build up over 4-5 games. My criticisms are only minor and they have much time to work on them before the proper season.

By the way the new rules make the game like netball it is anoying me. Stuff speed it is stuffing the game up, THEY NEED TO GET RID OF 2 INTERCHANGE PLAYERS.

Pretty pleased with the result without getting carried away. The extra $$ will come in handy.

I love our forward structure based around Franklin and Roughead in the square and Williams a bit further up. Buddy had a freakin' stinker but I liked the set up.

The Goo had an impressive debut. Clearly our BOG. 25ish possies and a few hard knocks. If he plays half as well as that consistently, he'll do his job. I liked him down back more than I expected.

Whilst we didn't play any first gamers, Boyle; Young and Sewell had all played limited AFL footy. Boyle was impressive as a 3rd tall up forward and Young has great skills.

We looked stuffed at the end, but Willo proved that he's still ultra dependable.

Robbie Campbell was suprisingly effective as a backman. The first time he's been fit in ages and he actually looked fairly quick. Struggled late in the ruck though.

Jacobs was superb.

Richo is a cat. Plenty of early chances and sprayed them horribly. Then reverted to his old plan of sneaking up the field to get into the play and dropped a sitter mid wing. His game was hilarious.

its always better to win that lose, no matter what game you play. tigers should have won, even though it was a b grade team, bad kicking is bad footy and you guys just seemed to want the pill 10 times more and went in alot harder. looks like you guys may win the flag this yr :)
seriously, its only the nab and both teams can get positves out of teh game, and negatives too.

Boyle - awesome game, well presented and great grabs- i agree
Guerra - great footskills and not scared to have a go - lets hope he keeps it up
Miller - slippery - this guy is better than buddy and has more heart
Cambpell - great effort (harry kewell wants his hair back) - solid game
Williams - solid leading, marking and shooting - should have kicked 12, look who he played on........roach!!!!
Croad - nice work on their forwards - if richo kicked str8 croad would have looked silly, besides the score board , richo beat him hands down

mitchell was not scared, hodge was good, ozzy and ladson were tough, lewis, roughie and buddy stood up.

mitchell was his usual self
hodge is a gun, i have always said that
ozzy,lads, lewis were ok
roughie is 10 times better than buddy, he showed glimpes of hard special things , lets hope he can keep it up
buddy did not stand up, his game was as poor as his attitude, his only positive was his only ok possession where he passed to williams to seal the game

4 the tigers
the positives were
we didnt get smashed when we looked like we were going to
schulz played a gr8 game, beat buddy, roughie and all ur fwds he played on
tambling started to show signs as the game went on
krak putting his body on the line a few times
simmonds started to dominate even though spida was off
the young first gamers showed promise
paddy bowden did pretty well
deledio is in a class of his own

negatives
lack of talk
lack of tackling
poor decision making at times
bad skill errors but its still feb
holding onto the ball to long trying to be heroes( hartigan and rodan)

overall all both coaches will take the good and bad out of teh game to fine tune for the proper season

but hawkers please dont let a win in the nab get to u, its just the nab

Things that impressed Fatboy.

The skills. Maybe cause of the style of game it was but they seemed to be up on last year. Guerra, young, miller all pretty good.

Nick Ries. Seemed pretty comfortable and for those Ries haters out there found targets as much as anyone else.

Campbell looked good as a tall down back, but struggled in the ruck.

Young continues to develop, has great skills and good poise.

Jacobs is good in games like that one, but how bout against a tight side like sydney?

Boyle looked good as did Roughy.

Chance Bateman makes me smile every time he goes near the footy. Loved his attack on the footy and the man.

Ladson was good too.

Mid field looks good as long as someone can get the ball to them.

On the flip side

Tuck was a cut above for mine. Delidio all class and Richo still as bigger choker. Tambling still has a long way to go. ATM Delidio>Roughead>Franklin>Lewis>Tambling.
