Autopsy Hawks vs Eagles

Won't say anything about the game on here but thanks to the guys who popped over to our board in the lead up to the game and afterwards. The banter was great and the number of Hawks fans who congratulated us was very classy. Good luck for your next two games and I hope we spank your asses in Melbourne in three weeks!
Indeed. A lot more gracious in defeat than certain other teams

Watching Clarko's presser has restored my faith somewhat, this is an amazing group of footballers, and are a class above the 5-8 bracket.

This group will not lose next week. This group can beat Freo in Subi. This group can win the premiership.

I don't think anyone who supports Hawthorn thinks that we can't beat Adelaide or the Dogs at the G, I don't think anyone who supports Hawthorn thinks we can't beat Freo at Subi, and I don't think anyone who supports Hawthorn thinks that we can't beat West Coast or whoever at the G on the biggest day in the AFL Calendar.

You can tell in Clarko's voice and the way he talks that he has the utmost faith in this group and the challenge ahead, and i do too.

I would have broken the telly over a game like that in that last few years. But I was sad rather than angry last night, it was almost weird, I think I saw my side declining in front of me. As Clarko said I do not think the endeavour was too bad. We simply were not skilled enough to handle the opposition, pressure, conditions etc

I do not know if out ‘best is good enough’ anymore. I do not think we have improved from last year. We are collectively an old team. Hence we cannot keep improving, we can only collectively decline. I also think the other teams have caught up to us. We should have blooded more youngsters over the year to give us a different look, play a different style or bring some sort of point of difference.

Good post and exactly how I felt - couldn't get angry, more resigned than anything. Had been saying for weeks that they look liked they were limping towards finals while the Eagles, doggies and tigers were playing good quality football.

I didn't understand the dropping of shoey a few weeks back as I thought he was genuinely playing pretty good football and making a concerted effort which is more than I've been able to say for some others. I won't be surprised to see him move on and become a good player at another club. Since when has Clarko played an injured soldier would of much preferred to see Howe continue playing - at least he would of been prepared to attack the ball put his head over it - smith (and I don't blame him) would of had the injury in the back of his head all night and would of been in protective mode. Clarko also did the same thing with Gunston and you have to presume Lewis - even Roughead was rushed back with a dirty big bandage on the lip yet we kept hearing how some guys were burning it up at box hill - it's easy to play insipid football at times when you know your coach is going to "back you in". It will be disappointing if we lose some of these box hill boys to other clubs.

Oh well, moving on to next week but it's not looking rosie. Could be looking at the changing of the guard with cats already gone and Sydney and Hawks looking at straight sets

Wow what a disgraceful thread to read this morning. Can't say i didn't expect it.

But if u weren't satisfied with b2b to the point of questioning the coach and players after last night, god help u in life. And i don't wish for this club to have such fickle, ungrateful, simple-minded "supporters"

Oh please, people are entitled to have an opinion and vent if they choose to do so. Not a single person doesn't revel in the ride we've had over the last 8 or so years but that doesn't mean we all have to sing kumbaya and go gently into the night wearing daisy chains when they lose. Do you seriously think that the coaches and players and even the board aren't asking the tough questions of one another this morning so I certainly don't see why supporters can't.

Havent given up just yet, however, I believe we are being beaten in the coaches box more than anywhere else at the moment.
All of our significant losses have been similarly themed.
Mega pressure forcing kick n hope and keep our runners and precision kickers out of the game.

I been watching it closely. opposition have been watching it too.

Yes our best is good, but I dont think our best is particularly feasible against the new breed at the moment.
Pundits, punters, commentators etc just dont seem to have the balls to completely write us off just yet.

Only history is keeping us in the game at the moment.
There is nothing in the present to get me excited nor confident Im afraid.
I've been trying to think of a calm way of saying exactly what you've said, but thankfully you have done it for me.

Clarko is who I am most annoyed with. Hawks were destroyed in the coaches box not just during the game, but in the preparation and in team selection.

You know what shits me... Every bloody week Ruff gets into the game when it's all done and dusted! He decided last night after our arse had been handed to us and the sting was gone to crash a pack, take a grab and kick a goal.. Give me a spell Ruff, lead from the front from the first bounce, it's pointless you having a dip when the cards have been dealt and that goes for when we are winning as well.. Shits me no end

That is Rough in a nutshell... And that is why I've nicknamed him the "Junk time Specialist"

Think Hartung will play next week, instead of Suckling. His pace will be handy, especially if we're playing the dogs. And Sicily for Gunner if injury keeps him out.

I was angry last night sitting at subi watching that crap whilst listening to the ferals celebrating their 'premiership'. But I think that loss will hurt the boys and they will be better next week - rest up with a 7 day break. And I really can't see us playing that badly against Freo in Perth (who we match up well on).

Easily one of the worst games I had to sit through, I don't have many positives to point out, god help who ever we play next week I am sure we will be pissed off.
Too often that's been said this year. Especially during the first 8 rounds this year.

Looked lost going forward. Couldn't handle wce defensive structures. We tried to force our way thru the web. Need to change up our running patterns and lead in numbers so we can out number them at the ball drop. Several times this year when forced to go down the line we look crap. Always out numbered when we tried force our way through the zone. Needed to switch the play to break up the zone. Kicking out from fullback no one seemed to be on the move.

Would the attacking method been boltons responsibility?
Did well in the clearance and tackling.
Next week frawley back Hartung in for Smith in not fully fit.

I mentioned that in a previous match thread. May of been against west coast in round 19.

It's something he did late last season too. Alot of the bad habits we've seen this year began late last season.

I'll say it again
Schoenmakers is our most important player

Chb, he has a solid kick which breaks up opposition zones
Chf, he's the only player we have that has a lethal kick which is also accurate

He's our only player that can kick a set shot from beyond 30m

Unfortunately he has to share the field with the opposition which is were things get tricky for him

I am surprisingly upbeat after that result. West Coast played a great game plan and outplayed us for 2.5qtrs us but we still have a decent route through to the GF (especially if Sydney wins). This season is not over. The equation is the same as it was before the game. Win 3 games and we are premiers. If you had offered me the Bulldogs at the G Freo in Perth and West Coast at G to win the flag at the start of the season I would have taken your hand off. Lets regroup and move on quickly.
Great commentary, exactly what Hawthorn will do, all of you on here that have thrown the towel in remember Hawthorn do not do that twice!

And that's exactly right, win three games and your premiers, that is the same equation yesterday morning.

I believe the Brisbane Lions lost their first final 2003.

the morning after...look at it this way, if we were going to lose a final, this was the one to lose....

cant help but think if we make it to the gf, we are still a massive chance...even the wce coaches box were still scared at 3/4 time up by 40+ points....

ps the wce fans who are already celebrating the premiership...need to get a grip, prelims are tough to win....and its been a while since they been to one

They have a 5 goal head start at Subi, with that feral, off its mind crowd baying for blood and instructing the umps how to umpire (and the umps complying). That's what they beat us by. If we make it through to a GF against them in Melbourne, it's GAME ON.

IN: Shoey

He is the only player that has worked up forward since buddy left. with the exception of Hale, but hale just isn't having the impact he once did.

It might fall though, he might crumble but I'm backing him in give him a go clarko. You cant pick any of Frawley, Lake, Startton, McEvoy, Obrian and even Sicily over Shoey playing that swing man role.

Well, the standard of West Coast posters on this thread in the last few pages has lifted considerably. You guys who have posted decently need to have a word with the 99.999% of your supporter base that give the rest of you a bad name.

Because frankly after the last couple of days, if my daughter told me she was narrying a west coast supporter I'd have her spayed. Just sayin.

Lost this game at the selection table. West Coast left out unfit players (Priddis etc) and we decided to take a risk when we had a like for like replacement ready to go for Smith. Really could have used Billy's run and spread in the first half.

The good news is though that we don't usually lose two weeks in a row.

That's what I've been saying although hopefully Hawthorn don't revert to the loss win loss strategy they had going earlier in the year :p:oops::cry:. They need to lick their wounds and hopefully regroup, whether this happens with a few changes OR they go into the semi final backing the same players (barring Gunston and Smith missing through injury).

Even around round 4 when the media started talking about the tough road for Hawthorn to three peat, I figured if it was going to be done it'll be done in the same path as Brisbane 2003 and Sydney 2005.

IF Hawthorn do it, the story across the season will be just as massive as last year. And the grand final itself would be the most epic ever (even though I feel that the 2014 GF is the most complete performance from q1 to the end of q4 I'll ever see).
