Agree can't play him in defence absolute liability.
Hope we don't resign him.
Yep.
While he can't hit a target he is a liability.

Will you have to change your username to SSSSS if that happens ?Suckling shouldn't play another game for Hawthorn. Thank you for your services to the club but it's time for someone else to have a go.

People really genuinely think that we cant see thru the BS well-wishesWhy opposition supporters need to come on here and troll is beyond me we do a good enough job of eating our own without help![]()
I feel sorry for Mitch a bit like I felt sorry for Crawfs all those years without a premiership.. Mitch gives and gives and hodge has the audacity as captain to drink drive... Mmm the clubs in great shape... Mitch would never of done that... Not a fan of hodge never have been

Seriously, beat the dogs then freo and back at the g for the big dance v weegs. ..that would be a sublime way to win our threepeat. Not terribly fussed, i would so love to meet the weegs in the granny. ...please bring it on hawks
Mate, I am sure that was a cracking post but it was just too long to read.I don't think the realisation that we were soundly beaten like this has settled in for me yet. It's quite a surreal feeling, as I watch my old man rage from the couch next to me.
Some really lacking efforts out tonight: biggest gripe was when Jordan Lewis hand-balled it to a West Coast player, got the ball back, then made the exact same turnover that led to a West Coast goal. Pathetic. Never seen a 25 disposal game with less impact. Best and Fairest Last Year but really disappointing this year IMO.
What role did Suckling play in our side tonight? He wasn't using his kicking to break the West Coast Lines. He wasn't running hard enough to justify his use as a midfielder. He didn't apply enough forward pressure or kick enough goals to justify his use as a forward, and when we play him in the backline he's extremely vulnerable in one on one situations and gets exposed by the opposition. If he wants to take the money he should just leave.
Smithy got 16 disposals but his running was non-existent. Despite this, the limping Issac Smith still managed to accumulate just as much of the ball as Bradley Hill and actually had more of a forward impact. Billy Hartung may not be as good as Smithy, but we needed his run this game and Hilly needed some support because when the chips are down Hilly seems to stay down.
Speaking of 'Chips': Frawley wasn't too bad in the second half when we moved him into the backline (apart from that one blunder), managed to corral Kennedy and run with him. Which begs the question: if Lakey is not mobile enough to go with Kennedy, why are we not using Frawley as a defender? Which further adds the question, why do we have to result to playing Lake forward? We have Shoenmakers and Spangher in the reserves who can both play a forward role somewhat effectively while not making us lose out on defenders. We shouldn't have to resort to using our best intercept marker and best defensive player as a forward.
Oh Roughead: the key power forward that seems to have become a stupid midfielder. Why do you handball it straight to West Coast players? Why do you run backwards into 5 West Coast players instead of kicking it forward? Why do you go for the glory goal and miss when you can pass and guarantee a goal? Why are you being used as a freakin' midfielder when we have to resort to playing Lake forward?! Gunston already had an injury cloud over him and clearly wasn't 100%. The resting ruckman wasn't taking contested marks, and then we subbed out Hale. So we needed a forward presence, but evidently it was deemed that our side needed more explosiveness out of the midfield. If you need explosiveness from the midfield, you play a midfielder like Anderson. You don't resort to using your premier, and let's be honest somewhat underperforming, key forward as a midfielder. Roughead should be in the junk maybe 5 minutes a quarter, not for extended lengths.
Breust had a shocker. Looked slow and out of it, demonstrating that sometimes resting a player before a high intensity game can be a bad thing: started the day with a poster and ended the day with a poster, with practically nothing in-between. Same can be said for Hodgey in the first half, but the Captain tried really hard in the second half and finished with 29 disposals, 6 tackles, 7 marks (equal highest on our team) and a goal. Needed more of him in the first half.
Puopolo had a bit of a nothing game, but that's not entirely his fault. The cogs of our forward line is that the ball hits the ground, and the three amigos apply tonnes of pressure on the ball. But Rioli was being used as a midfielder, Bruest was unsighted, Gunston was playing injured, we subbed off the resting ruckman, Roughead's considered more valuable as a midfielder than a forward and Puopolo's support was an injured Smith at half forward.
Birchall's a weird one, and has been all year long. He had 19 possessions and did give us some run off half back, meaning that technically he did fulfil his role. But his disposal and decision making has been poor, and ever since his injury his kicking action has been extremely weird and inefficient.
Stratton had a shocker: 5 possessions for what was probably 90-100% game time. I like Stratts, and I understand that he does his job best when you don't really notice him, but there's a difference between doing your job without being noticed or not doing anything at all. Daniel Howe would probably be watching with a raised eyebrow, thinking that he could have done better.
The decision to sub out David Hale was an interesting choice. He wasn't the best on the field, but he certainly wasn't the worst and could have provided a target up forward. But we sub him out, and all of a sudden Ben McEvoy has to ruck against both Nic Naitanui and Callum Sinclair solo. McEvoy was decent, probably better than we expected apart from his forgettable set shot, but how is it fair on the poor bloke to ruck 2v1 against two extremely athletic ruck men? It also meant that we had next to no tall marking options.
Decent performances from Mitchell, Sheils (disposal needs work), Langford (first half), Rioli and Gibson (quiet but Darling was also quiet). Burgoyne had his moments, and if we had been 20 points down instead of 50 at three quarter time his two goal burst would have heralded flashbacks of a certain famous Preliminary Final. Lake tried, but was out of his depth.
There were a lot of negatives from this game, much more from the other games. We had a lot of passengers, but these passengers weren't our fringe players but established Senior players.
Umpires frustrated me, and there were some really bullshit calls (or non calls, if you will) but Umpiring alone doesn't equate to being behind by 50 points at 3QT. West Coast wanted it more, and their fringe players all put in solid performances. We on the other hand, didn't seem to be interested until the game was already lost.
Does this mean our chance at a Premiership is gone? No, but it's going to be unbelievably hard to win it this year. Because the Adelaide/Bulldogs have both proven capable of claiming big scalps and both teams play a fast brand of Football, and if we do win that game we'll have to face Fremantle in Perth or Sydney in Sydney: and after that, end up probably facing West Coast again in a Grand Final. Very very hard.
The thing that disappoints me the most as a support is that we only brought this on ourselves. We as a team, when turned on, are undoubtedly the best team in the AFL (and yes I'm bias, but the thrashings of Sydney at full strength minus Pyke and Fremantle speak for the themselves). But we turn up to games uninterested and expecting to win: it happened tonight, and it happened against Port. The loss against Port cost us a home final at the MCG, and the loss against the Eagles now may have cost us a flag.
But whatever happens, I'll support the Mighty Hawks: win, loss or draw. I just reserve the right to vent my anger at performances like this.
i love the international movie channels on tv about now....
To do what?Clarko backing the boys in.. He is steadfast our coach, good on him.
Yep the umps sure taught us a lesson tonight.
Nice words mate but your side was awesome tonight.Good game, I thought you made some uncharacteristic errors and I thought we played pretty well.
If any team can win the flag the hard way its you guys.
