Autopsy Hawks vs Eagles

Lots of conveniently new Hawks accounts and opposition supporters talking shit in here.

West Coast away was always going to be a very tough one to win, no idea why people are making it out as though Hawks choked.

It's not over though, good luck for the rest of finals and don't pay attention to the trolls.

So what this is the Hawks board..turn around walk back out and enjoy your win...you got a fantastic run with the umpire over there....

Great point.
The long way isn't as bad as it seems. Just hope gunners can get up, not overly optimistic though.

You might find the extra game can help play us into better form. I genuinely dont see this loss as being a catastrophe. Gunston's knee/ankle isn't ideal but Schoenmakers will have to come in and show us how much he wants that premierships he was deprived pf the past 2 seasons. As Clarko said, you work hard for the double chance so lets take advantage of it and move on knowing that we're 3 good performances (against teams we have comprehensively beaten this season) away from winning 3 in a row. There is still a sting in this tail. Don't worry about that.

Well, there is no doubt now, WC supporters are the worst kind of human beings alive.

geeze their mothers must be proud.

Clarksons gameplan has been picked apart. All year we have continually flicked the ball around on the forward line trying to be unselfish to the point that players simply refuse to take a shot and ultimately stuffing it up and turning it over , when the tackling pressure goes through the roof we simply can't score enough. Early in the first quarter gunners got the ball on the outside of a tight pack and refused to take a snap shot he hand balled to smith who was closed down, goal gone. Langers early in the second quarter spins out of a pack and refuses to snap the goal instead handballs to a stationary BB , eagles clear the ball. The coaches are really going to have to work something out from here

We can forget about the flag. Let's be realistic, this wasn't a "small" loss, this was the way we looked against Tigers and port! And the margins are getting bigger . It was a Final ffs!! How on earth can we be optimistic when our coach says it like he thought 'we made mistakes with hand and foot, let them dictate the contest!' Wow! I hope we don't get too cocky about next week, even then , back to bloody Perth and Freo will NOT be accommodating! We have completely stuffed up our season it seems. Lake and frawley cannot be in the same team, we have been slow with our rebound from D50!

It does expose why we're down this year and other sides know how to pull us apart.

We can still do it, but it's slim. Can't just flick the switch and we'd be playing top footy.

I think you'll find he means a bunch of new hawks accountsputting crap on hawthorn, he's right a few trolls claiming to be hawks fans in the match day thread and a few in here that are clearly trying to get arise and are not hawks fans at all.

That's the way it's gonna be, little darlin'
We'll be riding on the horses, yeah
Way up in the sky, little darlin'
And if you fall I'll pick you up, pick you up

The fact you're repeating that song back to us pretty much means it pissed you off when we sang it last time and that it pissed you off gives me great pleasure.
And at least if you guys do win GF this year you can say it's the first coke-free Eagles side to win a flag - well as far as we know anyway. Enjoy your win.

Calm peoples, we lost.. shit happens... we also finished top four for a fourth year in a row for a reason. Yes we didn't play our best footy tonight, but no one said going for a triple flag would be easy. Tonight was a good show that there is still a lot of work to be done. Go Hawks

I thought i would let dust settled before coming on board, alot of negativity and some good observation from some posters. I'm dissappointed like everyone but not disheartened. I hope Gunstan is ok, one of my favourite players, lets move on people.

We lost, we live to fight another day.

2 lousy points off a home final. That gets played here and We're enjoying a week off now. Paid the ultimate price for being smart arses (that's coaches with selection which hasn't made sense all year, and senior players) against essendon and gws especially. Old mate suckling of brisbane cost many a goal that day as every week and rewarded with best 22 billing week in and week out. The poster boy for the selection woes this year. Being suspended for the gws game was no big deal I heard Lewis say at the time. It was then and it's an even bigger deal now.

Very disappointing loss. Surprisingly the WCE supporters were ok, at least the ones I bothered to respond to.
Was at the game. We seemed to lose the majority of 50/50 contests and every time we kicked to clear, it was mopped by a WCE player. I've been confident all year despite our up and down form; we are b2b premiers after all.
After tonight though, my confidence has waned. I don't see how we can turn it around given in/outs/form/homeground advantage. I know it is still possible to win the big dance from here - I know we can - but I don't think we will. We need a huge turn around.

Unsettled performance due in no small way to very good eagles side. I thought our leaders were excellent in the 2nd half but a dozen others did not follow.

But it is not ****en over you lot. Fire up a bit, they can still do this.

Seriously, beat the dogs then freo and back at the g for the big dance v weegs. ..that would be a sublime way to win our threepeat. Not terribly fussed, i would so love to meet the weegs in the granny. ...please bring it on hawks

And have Clarko make the same team decisions and tactics? Would just be like Ground Hog Day...

According to Clarko, that was our best team folks! Probably our worst effort ... but definitely our best team. As others have said, our performance was insipid & our coaching left me very very confused! I think some of it comes back to hunger & reward for effort. Complacency is bound to set in when you've been up for so long & the selection committee continually rewards mediocrity. You know who I'm talking about.

I mean, rucks aside who is genuinely competing for their spot? It's been "jobs for the boys" all year with most forced changes stemming from injuries. Many of us banged on about our amazing depth at the start of the year but unfortunately we have rarely gone to the well. Our club talks about every player having a role & peripheral players understanding that when they come in ... but Is it true? It appears to be true for West Coast & the Bulldogs but is it true for us? I don't know because I rarely see these peripheral players.

I think Clarko is a great innovative coach but is he being too cute? Rather than having players master a specific role & conquer their opponents, he would prefer our boys to play a variety of roles. Whilst this makes us less predictable it seems to compromise our structures & then we struggle.
Rather than try & inject youth & perhaps some enthusiasm he perseveres, we get found out & then he backs his boys in. Then it starts all over again the following week & we try to make a few minor adjustments with those soldiers with "credits in the bank.".

I liked the look of Howe last week, I thought Ceglar was a chance & Hartung was the obvious Smith replacement. I love Spangher & Jed's enthusiasm as well. Would one or two of them being brought in mean that we win? I doubt it ... but seriously ... could it have gone any worse? The Eagles tenacity & structures killed us & their effort was inspiring! As much as I hated it, perhaps they showed us why we've been a little frustrating (from a Hawthorn perspective) this year. It might be because they are genuinely playing for their spots & each other.

His worst game for the club that I can recall.
Stratton and to a slightly lesser extent birchal have both fallen of a cliff and are mere shadows of the players they once were, Luke Bruest has also had a very disappointing year only playing well against the bottom sides , when the top side apply strong pressure he simply can't do a thing. Also we must never see suckling in defense again , play him on the wing
