We need more speed !!!!!
Interesting observation.
I think we have it, just WCE didn't allow us to use it.

Hurt himself in that marking contest for sure, struggled to get up and take the kick then went straight off. Was moving fine after that thoughDid Roughie do an injury after he took his speccie early on? Looked to me like he was having trouble kicking after that (maybe after taking a pain killer) and being a confidence player (like all these new age 'raised in a politically correct world' affirmative action kiddies tend to be), his night was gone after that.

Slowest brain in the team, horrific. For someone not overly big he has no agility, change of direction, which is why he is only capable in one position, running in straight lines to defend. Other than that he has no place in the team.
Problem isn't footspeed, but disposal speedWe need more speed !!!!!
Completely lacking in spread across the ground. We are getting bogged down on the left flanks fo most of the game. Teams then just flood the space ahead and zone of the avenues to the corridor.
We probably need to go to the right side of the ground and then switch to the left wing. Hard to do on Subi cos its so damn wide.
Which is why defensive game plans work so well on it
Or how he hit the ball before Cyril
I think you guys will get to the Grannie.
It's just a matter of how much getting through 2 mature, big bodied sides costs you in terms of injuries/fatigue. Crows and Freo will both throw the kitchen sink at you.
A few people getting ahead of themselves on the West Coast side. There is no such thing as an easy prelim.

Still a classy poster I see. It was a serious question to serious supporters, thanks. Please, can we stop this shit! Yea, just like rough had injuries in 2012 GF which didn't stop him from missing three shots at goal. Roughead has a bruised ego and that's about it. He got SMASHED by blokes three inches shorter ffs.
Bit of both I would say. We're defintely not as slick moving it on from a mark as we once were but also look pretty slow on foot against teams that run hard both ways.Problem isn't footspeed, but disposal speed
We've become stagnant when we take possession
We used to kick to the open side and have our players take on the game
Now it seems we just hold onto it and kick long to a contest
It's reminiscent of 2009/10 but we actually have the cattle now which is frustrating
Hawks are a slow team
That smook is just another Hawthorn hater. What he said about Thomas would cop if he had have made the slightest contact with Grimes' face was a complete contrast to the Cloke, Smith incident earlier in the year. And Lewis was lucky not to get more, but the Ellis decision was spot on. Hate him, and his cynical smile. So apparently it is ok to leave the ground and make head high contact when late to a marking contest unless your name is Jordan Lewis.
Contact between West Coast’s Xavier Ellis and Hawthorn’s Cyril Rioli from the first quarter of Friday’s Second Qualifying Final was assessed. The panel said Rioli was going back with the flight of the ball and seeking to mark, with Ellis coming towards him and seeking to spoil. Rioli turned in the air as he completed the mark. Ellis made contact with the ball initially with his fist and then made subsequent high contact with his bicep to Rioli. It was the view of the panel that Ellis was legitimately attempting to spoil the ball and the matter was dealt with on-field at the time with a 50-metre penalty to the Hawthorn player. No further action was taken.
I'd like to know how this was a legitimate attempt to spoil

Apparently it was Cyrils fault for his unusual marking style of turning his body to land facing in the direction he was moving....

Cannot stand this fool. I don't condone violence but I'd be willing to make an exception if someone wanted to serve this guy a knuckle sandwich.

Speed is all about ball movement. Cats were never that fast with leg speed. Neither were Brisbane. Fast ball movement is an entirely different thing. Hawks were terrible against the Eagles, could not even hit a 2m handball.
Good post. Was trying to put my finger on our lack of rebound. You might have worked it outOne thing the Eagles did really well was when the ball was in their forward fifty and we had the ball they manned up and din't allow us to kick to an open player. When we kicked in they forced us to kick long. It happened time and time again.
I am amazed that nobody has mentioned this. Look back at the Richmond and Port games they dis the same thing. Teams have figured out to beat the hawks you have to man up on them.
Generally the only times we got through their press was when we ran the ball out of their defence but hand not foot. Then when we delivered the ball to our half forward line we would butcher the kick or hand ball behind the player to get the ball thus stuffing up our counter attack.
