You'd have to be very naive to think that we were the only team after top line players like Shiel, Coniglio, etc. Every club would have been aware of their situations and every club would be keen to recruit them.
Way to miss the ******* joke mate!

They might have to if they have to sign up innumerable other big ticket stars like Hopper, Kelly, and the rest.

I think GWS would probably be resigned to losing a big fish with their salary squeeze...we just need Cogs to pick us, and I reckon that would be that...
He's their second best mid behind Kelly if they can't keep Cogs on one million or there abouts, heads should roll after the player dump they had last year, Deledio coming out of contract will help them big time, be able to clear out some dead wood there.

~ Just looked at their contracts expiring at years end, Tomlinson. Himmelberg, Hopper. Kelly, Haynes and Coniglio. They're going to struggle to keep all 6, I would love to land anyone one of them.

Hopper as well. He really came on last year after injuries slowed his development in 2016-2017. He slips under the radar behind Ward, Conigoio and Kelly.

I cant see you targeting Haynes, but I wouldn't claim to better judge of your needs than Clarkson. I just struggle to see Sicily and Haynes in the same team. They're both best played loose where their instincts and positional play can be utilised to me.

Perhaps Clarko returns Sic forward !! Haynes has had interest since junior days and his initial drafting. We had a dip last contract renewal.

Same with Himmelberg.

I didn't realise Sicily played forward at all. I generally see the intercept role as a specialist position. The games always more complicated than I think though.

When he was starting out he was played forward as he was drafted as one. He was then swung into defence with much success. Clarko occasionally swings him forward when we’re a couple goals down late in the game.

Tops - I'm glad you're here. Have been saying this for a while.

Here's what this great club needs to usher in the next wave of success:

1. Sicily to the forward line. (Then we can have some talentless lump of a bloke breaking packs around him.)
2. O'Meara as captain. Nobody is as intense as this nutter. That's what we want in a leader. That's what we had with both Hodge and Mitchell.
3. A top line free agent. Cogs sure, but anyone else that is legitimate A grade.
4. 2 of Worpel, Nash, Lewis, Scrimshaw, Cousins, Waker, Howe to become A GRADE.
5. An elite key position player.

The pieces are slowly coming together - but steps 1, 2 and 3 will make it happen faster.
Look back at the Clarko's cluster thread and you'll see how many of us were screaming for a Key Position Defender and a decent Ruckman. Flags came thick and fast with McEvoy and Lake in the team.

Ahh Hopper..

Cogs would be another great Hawks recruit story but I just can’t see it happening & he will stay on a large contract & probably the capacity.

If that is the case & the squeeze is on at GWS to sign everyone up I am so bringing back my Hopper hashtag.

The kid is always limited with his midfield minutes & has to play out of position in a flank a lot it seemed.
Slot him next to Jags & Tom on 70-80% midfield time & he will explode.
He is a Bull player & would open up the release handball for the rest of the mids.

Don’t get me wrong; Cogs would be awesome but the thought of Jags, Tom, Hopper, Wingard, Scully, Smith, Worpel along with a few others is absolutely elite!

How about Roughy to CHB

Hale and Lake. Smithy and Hilly just as important

Hopper averaged 5 clearances a game last year and to my eye was predominantly used inside. He does spend some time forward every game. To my eye he seemed to be a regular at the clearances though as Shiel and Kelly got pushed outside. We needed run there in Scully's absence and Whitfield filling in for Zac William's across half back.

Taranto is the one that attended few clearances, again to my eye he seemed to in the role that Griffen played previously. Kinda like backstop off the back end of the square and joining in occasionally.

The clubs are smarter than the press in assessing a players value I think. I doubt he's on much and it's likely we'll need to find more to keep him. The biggest risk if players going for us is usually not being in the best 22 though, and he is.

Yes and they will need to trade if GWS match which they will since if he does pick Essendon he wont be on a "massive" amount of coin, GWS will not let him walk unless the offer is north of 1.2 million and Essendon wont have that cap space.

Nor do they have a 1st round pick next year.

He's real gun along side Taranto, thy're why GWS wont miss Shiel and still have the best midfield in the competition.

I think Haynes would add some nice flexibility to the team, an elite talent in an area of the ground we could use some more depth. With Burton gone now he would fit perfectly into that position specially with Birchall and Stratton on their last legs.

I dont really want to promote the availability but Sam Taylor might be a good back option. He hasn't extended his initial contract and a rising star nomI exoect we've discussed it with him.

The feeling amongst many is he could be key to our success when our initial group start to end their careers.

Finlayson too. Stop it. Your list kills me.

If I was your recruiters I'd be focusing on the intangibles. Like we've got the best coach and a strong club system. Some talk we should give him a captain's job but the ones we have are going great. He's already a VC and there's a reason Leon describes him as the heart and soul of the club. For me that's more Kennedy though.

:D I also think you're overlooking the WA clubs. The Eagles will probably in the game, and Freo. They never compete though.
I doubt any player from a two club city who travels every second week will want to go to another two club city and travel even further every second week.

To be fair, he's managed to come up with a pretty solid strategy ... Find out who the Hawks are going after and throw more resources/money at them.
Problem is he went bankrupt in the first hand.

The Eagies travel three less weeks a year than we do, albeit it's more arduous for them.

He's from a big Italian family. Until 2016 they actually used to have our travelling group around for dinner whenever we travelled to Perth.

On the plus side his parents switched from the Eagles to the Giants after he was drafted.

He's well known in WA from his junior days and it would be very different to Sydney.

Our guys actually plug their preferred local cafe on our Monday series videos. I doubt whether players in Melbourne or Perth would do that, they wouldn't get breakfast in peace.

Depends on the individual if anonymity is what they want though.
