Have a look at Essendon supporters coming out of the woodwork. You guys do remember you won round 1 by similar margins last year, dont you?

Yeah, we played crap. But that was always on the cards.
We'll Jekyll and Hyde, so to speak. We'll surprise some teams and capitulate against others. It comes with the territory of having such an inexperienced group of players.

But all in all, it was only round 1.

From where I was sitting the game plan wasn't all over the place, it was non-existent....

Yep, it was a pretty damn abysmal effort from the Hawks. The only thing that gives me hope is that we had three players above 25 and an average of 56 games per player, so it was a phenomenally young and inexperienced team.

It's still not much of an excuse, though.

Yeah Richmond had a collective 20 minutes of goodness that somehow led us to a good lead but threw that away in the third with stagnant, chipping backwards and sideways. I dont know how many times I yelled at the TV. "KICK IT LONG, DONT **** AROUND!" Especially at the start of the 3rd.

That's what cost us - trying to contain the lead rather than playing the style that had us winning. Overuse from lack of confidence to go long. All credit to Carlton, it was a fast paced, exciting game from start to finish and a lot higher quality compared to some of the other games played.

Out of the woodwork? I've been posting here for the last five years, even the last two when we were crap, cause I knew we would eventually come good, unlike your pathetic mob.

Absolutely agree. This over possessing will get you killed on the score board these days. When a team does what Richmond did on Sunday night of kicking backwards and then side way, it gives the opposition a chance to man up or flood up the ground. Full credit to Carlton though for the game they played.
I hate to say it, but if round one is any indicator, Port Adelaide and Carlton have the best group of young players in the competition.

It's a little early to be saying that Essendon's 'come good', about 5 years too early if you ask me. The Bombers current potential success is entirely based on a fit Matthew Lloyd! Now which team is pathetic. I look forward to the whippings Essendon are install for, and if that doesn't put you in your place, don't worrie, the Hawks will.

Tiges at least showed some fight. Hawks rolled over.
Hence why we scored 4 goals in 6 minutes to reduce it too 12 points with 5 minutes left - if tis possible the burst made the game even more frustrating then it already was, if thats at all possible. An 80 metre Riscatelli goal from the centre off our charge with around 3 minutes to play.

**** match - bitterly disappointing considering in many peoples eyes we have more talent then Brisbane, but to say we rolled over from the first bounce is idiotic

Tiges showed fight? They played Carlton, for God's sake and made the reigning wooden spooners look like a top four team. Richmond led by 4 goals and then just capitulated. They stopped running and let Carlton players run unopposed into their forward line in the last quarter. Some fight that was. Maybe it was one of those Bum Fights.
