Amazed to see no senior players culled.. oh well...

Hawthorn has delisted forwards Bill Nicholls and Tim Hazell from its senior list

Retired players, ruckman Shaun Rehn and Tony Woods, are the other two players dropped from the senior playing list.

Rookie-listed players Matthew Ball, Michael Georgiadis and Djaran Whyman also have been pruned from the Hawthorn squad

Hawk fans - whats the go with Billy Nichols?

Showed a fair bit on his debut I thought but seems to have spent most of the time since in the 2s. Has he been given a fair go? Or is he just not up to senior level?

Anyone expect another club to give him a lifeline?

I believe Richmond were or are interested in Nichols.

Thommo must be feeling a bit like a jinx - two years running his house mates have been delisted!!

Nicholls had no luck with injury at all. He did his hammy a couple of times, then had OP, and only got on the park with 5 weeks to go for Box Hill. He dominated a couple of games but the coaching staff had obviously already decided and he didn't get a go.

Certainly worth a rookie list. Hazell had OP and missed the entire season.

Djaren Whyman has less chance of playing AFL next year than I do. Takes quite an effort to be dropped from the Box Hill reserves but he managed it somehow. Real shame because he was unbelievably talented and a funny guy - just lacked the commitment.

matthew ball

I wonder if the Saints will add Matthew Ball to our rookie list... this way he can strive that little bit harder as he will be seeing his younger brother (luke ball.. #2 pick) playing senior football with the Saints next year. I don't know about you but if I was in the local reserves and my younger brother was playing seniors I'd put in that extra effort.

It might just work and if not then we don't lose much.

Cheers sav,

good to see a familiar face out there :)

Whats your opinion on matt. ball?

As far as I knew he was a consistent player for Box Hill in 2001, regularly racked up the possessions & was fairly tough. Since then- no idea.

Wouldn't be adverse to having him do a pre-season at Moorabbin. Like GT said, he comes from a sensational family & his brother can play a bit as well! :)

Matty Ball has been one of my favourite players over the past 2 years that I've watched him at Box Hill and it amazes me that he was delisted before Tim Clarke, as I rate Bally much, much higher.

Great, accurate kick, hard tackler, in and under player and team leader. Was always one of the most vocal players at the breaks and was definately determined and consistent.

When given run with roles, he generally does ok, but sometimes struggles against top quality guys like Tivendale and Adrian Fletcher but when he has the role of a guy that tags, yet gets the ball, he doesn't disappoint.

I may be a bit biased, but he's a top bloke and a good player with potential to make it. Shame to see him go but I wish Matty Ball all the best.
