Take out the first round pick this year. Do you actully care about those other picks?

We would of only used 2 of them.

And the 2 kids we got with really late picks have actully been quite promising. All things considered.

If JOM ends up a better talent the who ever goes at our 1st this year its a win. And he will. Take it to the bank.

Unless he leaves in two years' time when his contract is up. In your post above, you're just going to trade in some gun. Don't you think other clubs are doing the same thing? I think he'll be a lot better in his third year than in his first. And you couldn't argue he'll repay Hawthorn's investment, he didn't at the Suns.

The thing about trading is that it's easier to do when you're near the top. Just ask Carlton how easy it's been trading in gun players from anywhere other than young guys who can't get a game at GWS. There's a reason Lake and Frawley wanted to go to Hawthorn.

You'll find it's more likely that guys like Sicily will want out if the hawks spend too long near the bottom.

can we stop pissing on each other over attendances and get back to Hawthorn currently having pick 34 as their first pick in the 2017 draft?
Pick 34 is enough for the Hawks.

Add that gem to their current stock of young talent...Burton, Burton, Burton, Burton, Burton, Burton and Burton....and you can see the imminent resurgence of the indomitable Hawthorn FC.

It will just be.

because Hawthorn.

Other club just don't try hard enough, or do whacky enough trading. Flags are easy I have read recently: apparently all you need to win a flag is an elite midfield and either a good defense or good defense, but not both as you can carry one; and that Hawthorn are a fit O'Meara and another gun mid off challenging.

Flags are that easy. If you're Hawthorn. Other clubs just lounge about trying to develop high draft picks and failing.

Hawthorn exceptionalism is my new favourite thing

The funny part is you started this "Because Hawthorn" trip back when you were so offended by my confidence that JOM would be declaring Waverley his home on the D&T Board, remember?

"Why would he choose Hawthorn over other clubs!", you wished.
"Why would he want to join a club on the decline", you hoped.

"What, because it's Hawthorn, you just think it will happen?! Because Hawthorn!?!". Vent vent vent.

I kind'a hope your "because Hawthorn" monologue turns out a bit better for you this time around.

yeah nah I never said any of those things. Lol! My query was about it being a done deal, and in that you were probably right going by circumstances.

But if we're remembering things, how about all the times you took me to task for wanting to believe the message my club was giving out?

Even better, how you ridiculed my desire to wait until the situation was resolved before making judgement?

Pretty funny eh

I could argue daisy Thomas has been a master stroke too.

Be pretty stupid, but I could do it
You are compareing daisy to JOM.

This is the exact problem.

Yep stupid.

Edit: also love your comprehension, having faith that JOM could be a better player then the player drafted with our pick this season = JOM master stroke.

Im alowed to be optimistic about a talented young player. Deal with it. lololololo

That's some pretty neat revisionist history going on there, mate.

I'm not sure anyone rallied as hard for the "it's not what it looks like" camp, while adjacently pointing the finger and implying other clubs needed to be investigated.

no I wanted to wait until I had facts to make a decision on and until then I wanted to believe the best, and you're doing exactly the same now. TerryWallet called it gatekeeping and he was dead right. I learned a lot of lessons during the saga. Like, how not to believe everything my club is telling me.

List spots.

Probably didn't delist extra players due to lack of picks. Clubs weigh up whether the pick is likely to net better than what they have. Considering both your picks last year were super late, most retained spots on the list.

Dare say if you had the extra picks in the 2nd round, another player or 2 would of been moved on

Bingo. I learnt my club was capable of being full of shite 15 years ago with the salary cap stuff and multiple times since pretending we were in flag mode under malthouse.

Point is AFL clubs aren't full of untouchable geniuses, many get jobs just because they were good footballers but would lucky to be employed anywhere outside of a football club.

Also with the daisy situation I thought it was a good idea until I saw him play for half a season and it was apparent it was a Malthouse special to get his surrogate son with him and they hadn't done their so called due diligence.

I can't remember Carlton people being as adamant that it was a great idea in the face of evidence to the contrary, and Daisy was actually getting on the park, which JOM isn't even doing.

If I followed a club with a history like Essendon, I wouldn't trust them either.

I hope you read Martin Flanagan's article today.....because, oddly enough, it backs up everything that the has been said previously.

Exceptionalism?

A flag every 4 years of my life, plus a couple of losing GFs.

Kennedy, Parkin, Jeans, Clarkson.

Buddy, Dunstall, Brerton, Mathews, Mitchell, Hodge, Langford, Mew, Ayers and so on...... on GF day.

An embarrassment of riches.

Lets look at recent successful teams:

Brisbane = AFL assist.
Carlton = multiple salary cap offences
Sydney = AFL assist
West Coast = sad stain
Port Adelaide= AFL assist

That leaves Essendon, Geelong, Collingwood, North, Bulldogs. Well done to those clubs!

But there is a reason the Hawthorn supporters dream not of a future cup, but of future CUPS!

Only once club has rorted the cap in a flag year.

Hint: Wasn't us

But aside from that which is quite irrelevant, no one is saying Hawthorn are doomed for decades or even a decade of failure. It's more that your club has a weak list with no real capacity to improve it until the end of 2018.

What are we thinking.

Everyone one knows the first 12 weeks of a 10 year investment are the most important 12 weeks. Make or break.

He's good but not I'll give up double what the cats gave up for danger good.

He's done extremely well to come back, but he's a handy forward who bobs up now, when before the injuries he looked like Stevie j mark 2
