After tonight, I'm pretty sure Mitchell handballs because he isn't a great kick. His preferred looked as awkward as most players' opposite foot.
He handballs because he is an inside mid who puts his head over the ball and distributes by hand.

"None of your injured players would make a difference even if they were playing, because they played in the big losses against the Suns and Cats".

Still some of the dumbest logic I've read.
What were the changes from r2 to r14?

In R2 - JOM, Rioli, Gibson, Frawley, Stratton all played who weren't in the team tonight.

The R2 team on paper looked better, (except for Vickery), yet tonight's team lacking the 'stars' controlled the game.

Which kids do you drop to bring back the stars?

Howe, Hardwick, Burton, Sicily, Hartung and even Schoey played their role.

You would be dropping guys like Breust, Gunston who again gave you squat...which is the biggest reason why the Hawks are in 16th...kids aren't letting you down, it is the senior blokes.

the same senior blokes who won three in a row, so can't drop em.

In rd 2 we had Birchall go down early. We also allowed Jacobs and Jenkins to run riot. McEvoy effectively tagged Jacobs, and in turn he had no influence.

We also tagged Sloane tonight...

No worries. We have a footy dept to make all those decisions

because the kids haven't played senior games or because they are low draft picks? seems more and more like the former.

You spend way too much time in this thread worrying about Hawthorn. How many times does it have to be repeated that Gunston is playing a different role? Breust was ill and probably shouldn't have played tonight. Go worry about your own club who have slipped down the ladder every season since 2012 despite having a supposedly good midfield.

Collingwood will now face a Hawthorn team with Hodge, Birchall, Stratton, Brand and O'Brien who all didn't play in that last encounter.

Yeah it was a better coaching performance and kids responded.

Not sure how it is supports Abasi's point about the stars, they played better without them. And tonight again it was the triple premiership players who didn't really come to the party

What you can see is just an opinion though.
What did you see back in 2013 when the AFL tried to sweep it under the carpet? How'd your estimations go back then? WADA won't come over the top? No bans?
Actually no.

I was one of the Easendon fans who knew we goofed. As soon as we came out with the line about not having any evidence i knew it was dodgy as ****. I wanted us to take the cronulla route, own up and take the hit. Would have been done way earlier if we did thay.

You argued for about 3 pages that the injuries to key players had no effect on our side, because "they all played in your bad losses, so they would add nothing even if they were fit".

That you'd still try and argue that dumb logic after last night says it all.

The list is way better than 2005 by the way. It's about 2 years advanced due to better players in the 24-28 bracket

2005------2017
Hodge. Burton
Osborne. Bruest
Sewell. Shiels

Brown. Hardwick
Williams. Gunston
Crawford. Rioli *

Young. OMeara *
Bateman. Smith
Campbell. Ceglar. *
Franklin. Sicily
Ladson. Stratton *
Croad. Frawley *

Lewis. Roughead
Mitchell. Mitchell
Roughead. OBrien
Renouf. Pittonet

* currently injured

2005 list is those in the 2008 premiership team who were on 2005 list.
Dew Rioli Birchall Gilham Guerra Ellis made up the 2008 team

I like how there's two French sounding ruckman

Of these at this point in time. I rate Only Burton Shiels Sicily Mitchell and Obrien as poorer than their 2005 counterparts. Roughead v Lewis is the weirdest match up and it highlights the Hawks desperate need now for another young A grade midfielder at least. A key back has been sought for a while. One thing the 2005 list has is more mongrel. If anything the current mid age players are more straight up. Recruiting to come needs to tweak this

Hodge Burgoyne Gibson Puopolo McEvoy not included due to age profile

It really is a case of holes being filled. The hard part is getting A graders rather than role players.
Certainly not a need to trade everyone out and totally rebuild

$$$$ I want to stress this is purely a comparison and not to be read as a strategy going forward for Hawthorn 2017
Clarkson did keep the 2005 list but also traded or retired Everitt (2nd in b&f) Hay Smith Jacobs Vandenburg Dixon Barker Dawson Holland
If those in Bold cant do a better job thn their 2008 counterparts in a possible future flag Ill go - well, I'll just go
Even if its another 'pinched' flag

but 85% of the tacked on rubbish is laid bare as just that
Last night changes very little about the position of Hawthorn at the end of this season with an ageing list and no decent picks with which to replace them.

If anything, the tough decisions will be put off and Clarko will be allowed to do again what he did this year after convincing the Football Department they're a real chance of a flag in the short-term.

Maybe some younger players are better than others thought, but there was still a bit of reliance on guys like Hodge and Burgoyne who will need replacing over the next season and that's just to maintain the current level of 3rd bottom.

It was good to see Roughead get a bit more confidence back.

Hawks fans will strut around for a bit, as they should, but not sure I'd be taking an enormous amount out of that - apart of course from the thrill of a win for a bottom team. It was a poorly skilled game, and it was almost literally unbelievable how different the Crows were from the team that played Essendon all those weeks ago. Scrappy, turn-overs galore, it was pretty ugly stuff apart from being close.

I did like this this morning though:

Hawthorn ace Shaun Burgoyne urged to play on by coach Alistair Clarkson

Yes please. Sign him up now Clarko, do it!

Why don't you just wait for the next loss or give up altogether

Burton will replace hodge. Hardwick will replace brown. Mitchell will replace
Mitchell. Obrien Roughead. Still to find a Lewis. May not need a Franklin or Lake (in fact lake replaced Franklin)

Not too many holes left to fill

Anyway for all the being left behind the third bottom team is 2 wins out of the finals

For a minute there the doom and gloom subsided for a half page....just as well we got the thread back on track, mate.

Loving that you even managed to throw in an excuse in for Essendon having their pants pulled down by the same side.
