For a minute there the doom and gloom subsided for a half page....just as well we got the thread back on track, mate.

Loving that you even managed to throw in an excuse in for Essendon having their pants pulled down by the same side.

Hawthorn were excellent tonight, easy the best they have played all year.

The original premise of this thread remains unchanged though.
You are right but don't worry about the draft order in April or June. Wait till October and see what the order actually is! For some reason today the sky just seems a little bluer, the sun a little warmer and the air a little fresher.

Why? We have as many talented younger players as anyone. As I've said before, opposition supporters' concern over the welfare of the Hawks is all very touching, but we're doing just fine, thank you. Worry about your own clubs, especially those of you who haven't been anywhere near a flag for the past 20 years or more.

You argued for about 3 pages that the injuries to key players had no effect on our side, because "they all played in your bad losses, so they would add nothing even if they were fit".

That you'd still try and argue that dumb logic after last night says it all.
Quite the opposite Mr Hawk.

When saw the result thought I would pop in to see what the happy Hawk fans were going with, presumed it would be along the lines of the yooff is better than many think, only one win out of the eight etc.

But to see you use that result as some kind of vindication in relation to the supposed key players you were missing was surprising, as the majority are still missing!!

The R14 team was a much younger and inexperienced team compared to the one that played in the R2 loss to the Crows. How does that performance somehow back up your point? Brand, Hardwick, Burton and even Sicily down back were great...what do you gain by dropping them for Gibson, Stratton and Frawley?

Howe was magnificent on Sloane; Langford and Hartung actually gave run and carry.

Just imagine if the Hawks had actually traded well in the off-season....scary thought

Coming from a supporter of a club who traded in Mayne & Wells this year. Add this into other "boom recruits" over the years like Young, Russell and Lynch. Worry about your own backyard first champ.

What do we gain when our kids play great games and our older players were not so good? I believe we gain what is sometimes referred to as a "Rebuild".

If we can get a mid/tall defender and a midfielder through Free Agency we will easily be able to get back to finals next year.

Why don't you just wait for the next loss or give up altogether

Burton will replace hodge. Hardwick will replace brown. Mitchell will replace
Mitchell. Obrien Roughead. Still to find a Lewis. May not need a Franklin or Lake (in fact lake replaced Franklin)

Not too many holes left to fill

Anyway for all the being left behind the third bottom team is 2 wins out of the finals
With that % and matches left to play, you're still essentially 3 matches out of the finals and, importantly, still have 7 teams between yourselves and a final spot. So need to beat Swans, Bulldogs, Bombers and Saints by multiple games. If you win all 9, you might be a chance. Games away to Freo, Geelong and the Bulldogs might make that a bit tough.

If you think O'Brien is a replacement for Roughead you probably need to re-visit Roughy's stats when he was O'Brien's age. He was probably on 200 goals by then.

Equally the others might fill the position, but are they as good as the incumbent was during the premiership years? Tom is no Sam. Even the most optimistic hawks fan would have to agree with that. It's weird that it's so hard to replace superstars with high draft picks.

Maybe Burton can play CHF and CHB?

As I keep saying no need to replace each and every one to the same level. If we did, watch out AFL it might be a fourpete or fivepete next time
What is this I don't even?

Is your list management strategy to replace outgoing players with guys who aren't as good and you'll still win because Hawthorn?

Hawks fans will strut around for a bit, as they should, but not sure I'd be taking an enormous amount out of that - apart of course from the thrill of a win for a bottom team. It was a poorly skilled game, and it was almost literally unbelievable how different the Crows were from the team that played Essendon all those weeks ago. Scrappy, turn-overs galore, it was pretty ugly stuff apart from being close.

I did like this this morning though:

Hawthorn ace Shaun Burgoyne urged to play on by coach Alistair Clarkson

Yes please. Sign him up now Clarko, do it!
Burgoyne could easily play another year. Does your obsession with hawthorn keep you up at night?

Looking forward to seeing who the 2 free agents are that agreed to join Hawthorn at the end of last season.

Still could be one or both of Martin and Fyfe.

More likely Trengove and Rockliff.

I think deep down all opposition supporters know something big is coming and it keeps them awake at night.

As many talented younger players as anyone? Compare your 22 or under players with those of every other club, the answer is not as good as anyone really

Why? You think he is past it? Been a good player this year and so far has earnt the right to play on
he's been a good player this year has he?

Wow, ok then. If you say so. Obviously Clarkson agrees. Maybe a few do games do make a good season?

From what I've seen he's generally looked cooked. He plays well in the rare occasions the team does, and plays poorly when the team does.

But more pertinently, it would just show that Clarkson believes the Hawks only need a bit of tinkering around the edges. And it would be spit in the eye for Mitchell and Lewis.

So by all means, play on Silk, play on

Yeah I think he has played well this year and can go on another year at this stage

What does that have to do with Hawthorn's 2016 off-season and the 2017 draft?

Collingwood have made heaps of mistakes recently, and rightly ridiculed for them.

If you want to talk about Collingwood, go post in one of the multiple Buckley threads floating around.

This is the thread where people are discussing how a clubs decision to move on their top two performed players in the BnF for nothing, and giving up an unprecedented amount of draft collateral for a bloke with a huge injury question mark was crazy.

That a club ending up bottom four, but not having access to top end draft talent is a nightmare scenario.

Hawthorn fans believe their club doesn't adhere to the normal cyclical nature of the AFL, because they won 3 in a row you see. They will return to the top again...it is what Hawthorn does.

A top thread.

I can confirm that Jack Trengove is one of them

Bolton became Coach of the Year favourite after you lot beat GWS. So apparently sometimes a single win matters.
Well that didn't happen, no one was claiming coach of the year.

Overall, it's more based on expectation with us. People thought we would maybe win 3-4 games all year and are similar standard to you guys currently.

Hawthorn were expected to be no lower than a little outside the 8.
