There is nothing short term about the view that effectively ruling yourself out of two consecutive drafts (at least the first few rounds) is likely to have long term implications for your club. There are also a host of other issues related to the trade period that are both short term and long term, but they have been outlined in here ad nauseum. Hey, but thanks for 'dumbing it down' for me. I assumed you were trying out some low level sophistry.
So every club that ever uses future trades has instantly failed?

Ok...

I was responding to comments that the "whole trade period" was a monumental failure.

I think it's fair I bring balance to that discussion by talking about positive parts of the trade period or do you guys just want to, in an "unbiased" way, just talk about how shit Hawthorn was during the trade period

:D
If you win $20 at the casino then lose $50, did you have a good night?

OUT: Sam Mitchell (free), Jordan Lewis (free), Brad Hill, pick 14, pick 36, 1st rd pick 2017 (~3), 2nd round pick 2017 (~21)
IN: O'Meara ($500k+), Mitchell ($500k+), Vickery ($500k at least for two years), Henderson, 2nd round pick 2017 (~35)

If we are trading that it would want to be for someone young (no older than 22-23) , established & NOT injured.
Common how about the amazing recuperative powers you guys have? Alex Johnson for 2018 first and 2nd rounders.

Jack Trengove would be a fa so no trade and little money, but rather pointless.

I think the $50 is a gift voucher that runs out in an hour. So yeah maybe

Sorry to explain - it's an exchange of $20 for the time limited gift voucher....

And you can invest the $20 in a blue stock investment

This is an interesting question. I could take the approach of pretty much every hawk poster in here and say 'we can't judge yet, it's too early to tell'. But I won't - he's been a win for you guys.
Haha, I like, I mean he could just randomly turn into a potato or retire. Who knows, it's only half a season into a 10 year investment?!?!?!

Taken as a whole it's a failure, even with the Mitchell win.

I mean stranger things have happened JOM could be the next GAJ, Skilton, Leigh Matthews and Adam Bentick rolled into one

Mitchell Lewis could be the combined force of those 2 guys you let go last year.

Hawthorns medical department could (or may have already) cure cancer.

No it wouldn't. Not at all

It would just show that Clarkson rates his leadership and onfield ability to lift in big moments as something that he'd want the youngsters to play along side, for as long as possible. The guy is an absolute gun, and can still find his way through heavy traffic.

Also, Burgoyne is still able to break tackles and run away from players due to his pace, which is something Mitchell and Lewis aren't renowned for.
Burgoyne has been one of my favorite AFL players. All the qualities of a champion player.

This time last year i thought he looked shot. Cooked.

But he seems to be motoring along better again now. The wall could still be very close though. I'm not a fan of watching champs struggle. Always been an advocate of half a season early instead of a season late.

Not sure where you have that idea. Getting 2 and 2 and getting 547.

Traded pretty much more than any club ever had for a player who was incredibly speculative given his injury problems.

Gold Coast played it very well

But you see we did use our first rounder for Tommy which you've acknowledged was a win.

So, with that in mind, we haven't stuffed up two first rounders in a row...

Ay?
totally, you done good ;)

(and I am sure that the astute selection you made with your first pick at 74 will be a winner too)

I'm pretty happy about getting a 23 year old mid with a few years in him when ye olde Lewis and Sammy have left - they were on their way out

If JOM recovers and plays to his potential it's a win. Every day of the week

Ty was back up to Rough who we didn't know much about in terms of his health

Biggest loss was Hill. My ONLY concern was losing him

Well you did blow a first rounder last year on JOM as you bizarrely gave it to st kilda for the 2017 first rounder plus extra picks on top of that.

Must of been confident of a flag or top 4 with trading of picks like that

Whatever O'Meara, Mitchell and Vickery are earning is irrelevant as Hodge (Hawthorn's highest paid player), Burgoyne who is in the top 5 highest paid players at Hawthorn, and Gibson likely to retire too, meaning Hawthorn will have a shit load of cap space to spend at seasons end. That doesn't even include the 20% increase in the salary cap.

Hello Nathan Fyfe. :D

Sure. But this is why I bring up Tommy. We managed to bag two first rounders and used one quite well as evidenced at least in the short term.

There is a curiously unbalanced theme in all of Tesla's postings

(a) two first rounds stuffed up in a row (not true)
(b) Trade period total failure

Just seems that Tommy Mitchell is quickly acknowledged as a win but is then ignored in the final argument about the whole trade period

Tommy M is an inconvenient truth it would appear
