Agree. Fraser can & does work with the rucks. We don’t need an additional ruck coach. There is still a soft cap.Cameron and Cox don’t need a specialist coach. Maybe Begg anD part timers like Kreuger could learn a thing or two from Monky but it’s probably a waste of limited soft cap which is better spent elsewhere.
Why did Hawthorn part company with him?
Not sure they are ruck coaches.
- Graeme Wright
- Paul Licuria
Not sure they are ruck coaches.
Point taken.Boys and jobs

If Monkey wasn’t an ex pie player this thread wouldn’t exist. Sydney consistently get used ruckman & improve them considerably.
‘But nobody seems to be suggesting we head hunt their ruck coach.
They have been taking St Vinnies ruckman & turning them into David Jones quality for a long long time now. Easily best in the comp for so long at transforming ruckman into top players. Can’t remember the last ruckman they drafted. Probably never happened.Sydney also happen to have the best ruckman post-2000 as a coach
I'd argue that Ceglar, Hale and McEvoy were good around the ground, but ordinary in terms of their ruckwork, so I don't see the evidence of him being a gun. No idea why a ruckman needs a specialist ruck coach for around the ground work or a dedicated ruck coach (other than very part time)for their ruckwork. Surely Fraser could handle the technical ruck stuff. And if he can't or is too busy, a very part time role for Monkey might be ok.
But overall, calls for us to hire Monkey just reek of getting a favourite son back, to me.
Sorry for misinterpreting your reasons. Personally though with the soft cap I just don't see the need. I can't see why you'd put a specialist coach on the payroll for one skill used by 4 players. Particularly when you're head of development was a ruck and thus you'd think could teach that skill.Sure, I guess that's why you see me calling to bring back Anthony Rocca, Sav Rocca, Gaving Brown and all the other ex-Collingwood players spread throughout the coaching landscape right?
No, this is wanting a favourite son back because he happens to be one of the better ruck coaches in the comp, something we need.

‘No idea on Licuria’s worth, but Wright has been an enormous get for us.
‘Having said that I couldn’t give a fat rats what team they played for. I just want the best there is employed with us.
One thing I dont get about afl coaching is the lack of cameos. Most forms of education use specialist training: short bursts focusing on certain aspects or key ideas. In writing this I realised they probably do a bit but it doesn't seem the norm. Monkey, for example, might be great to employ for a month or two over the off season.
Don't we assess him as a ruck coach or is it because he was a past player we should be avoiding him?I can't like this enough. Ed's reign is over. Some of you need to move away from his mind set.
If Fraser wasn't already at the club then sure, take a look. We don't need a second ruck coach absorbing more soft cap space though.Don't we assess him as a ruck coach or is it because he was a past player we should be avoiding him?
He seems to have a fairly good record as a ruck coach at Hawthorn.
Yeah I agree. My comment was just general in relation to dismissing someone purely because they played or had ties at the club. Should be based person for the role. Regardless. If Fraser wasn't already at the club then sure, take a look. We don't need a second ruck coach absorbing more soft cap space though.
Is this the kiss of death?I think this is a good idea.
