A seven year contract from Essendon is more of a threat than an offer tbh.

We've seen how they've treated Merrett (their best player and captain). We've seen how they rotate coaches every year or two (and will prob happen again before the end of the year).

If this was Geelong or Brisbane or even Sydney I might feel a tinge of concern. But nah - not even slightly bovvered.

So either

1. Weddle has already knocked back their offer, otherwise he would have asked to be included in a trade for Merrett

or

2. Essendon for some reason, incompetently waited till after trade period to try and recruit a Hawthorn player when for over a month they knew Merrett wanted to go to Hawthorn. They have us pushing hard to recruit Merrett, but one of the few ways they could come out on top in the deal they didn't try during trade period?
