Start of the season is crucial. Couldn't agree more about winning early to get membership up. Also the club could probably do with the prize-money so it'll be interesting to see what AC does with team selection in the NAB cup.

I think we've got a pretty good start to both our fixture's, both pre-season and premiership, and if we can really start well we may scrape an acceptable amount of members this year.
Couldn't agree more, we could do with the prize money, it would also help the list gain experience in a finals like game; Semi and hopefully final.

Good posts Hawkk and CS. Thanks for that run-down on early games Hawkk, very good perspective on what is facing us early, actually, it's almost kind of a positive, down to us to make the most of what looks, 'on paper', some winnable games. We manage to do it, it can only be a positive in ways not just attributable to the win/loss record.

Ditto CS on the prize-money on offer, to be honest, hadn't even really considered that aspect of it but you're right, a nice little boost to the coffers wouldn't hurt. Certainly didn't do Carlton any harm this time last year.

Gather a bit of momentum, get the excitement up, get some confidence happening. Yea, wouldn't mind seeing that happen at all.
It's actually a strange draw, because on football alone it's actually not a bad draw!

We get to play fellow strugglers Essendon, Collingwood and Carlton twice (early and late in the season), we play Melbourne early; we seem to have the wood on them, no Sydney games and only 1 game in the West.

We could have done alot worse.

The increased prices, particularly for the more expensive Kennedy Club and so in include Social Club membership.
 Not sure what you are referring to?
I was already a social club and reserved seat member and have been for many years. The last 2 seasons it cost me $350.00 so it has gone up to $385.00 and i get 2 less games in Victoria and 2 others moved to Telstra Dome. You don't get your reserved seat and members bar at away games so they are not included. I have the added issue of getting to Telstra Dump on a Friday night to contend with.

An interesting point you bring up. The draw in terms of members being able to see games in melbourne isn't good at all, but in terms of who we play twice, our start to the season, and who we play away (the exception in the brisbane game in qld) isn't too bad at all. We move around a lot cause we are playing in tassie three times, but its definately an advantage for us down there.

We had a pretty bad draw in terms of playing and travelling last year. We went West then to Brisbane. Most clubs would have made a big issue out of that, but Clarkson got on with it well I thought.

Yeah I agree totally, you could say we also had a much more 'fan friendly draw' last season.

Personally with the draw we have, there is no reason why we shouldn't win 8-9 games, which with the change in the priority pick rule should still give us a top 5 pick!

But that Queensland thing (sorry Gary, Binxy) no. Not at all happy with that.

We've got a good connection/history with Tassie so to strengthen it could be a good thing. The Queensland move just smacks of selling for $$$ and seems to have the thinking behind it of "the members will wear it, it's just a burden but it's for the good of the club and they ALWAYS do what's good for the club".

What's best for the club is to maximise it's traditional support base. Primarily Victoria, then Tassie and put together a not-to-expensive inter-state and/or o'seas package for others.
Exactly Grendel spot on!

I think I have mentioned this before, but this is what our sales and marketing man had to say to a buisness development group;

http://www.senews.com.au/story/7735
HAWTHORN Football Club sales and marketing manager Jeremy Kaan has foreshadowed a strong presence in the south east for his club.

Mr Kaan, who was guest speaker at the Casey Business Development Group (CBDG) December breakfast meeting, said Hawthorn wanted ‘ownership’ of football in the eastern corridor.

He said, however, the club would be asking the community what it wanted for football.

Mr Kaan said Hawthorn had established a new base at Waverley Park, which was state of the art and well placed to service football in the region.
