We're pretty close to last years total....and if we're close to the total around May/June, then some benefactor will chip in and buy the remaining 1,000 or so memberships to break the record (do a Dicker).

Friend of mine, an Essendon supporter, told me that he and another friend, also an Essendon supporter, received an unsolicited Essendon membership in the mail, free. It would seem that the club has made a decision to create the appearance of support 'flooding back' to support the club.

I wonder if there’s an opt-out clause, unlike the time they “asked” for donations from their members, which really impressed so many.

Clarko said on MMM yesterday morning that we were pretty close to 70,000 - and that the 70,000th member would be recognised by the club in a special way. Didn't say what that member would receive, but seemed to think that we were only a day or two away from reaching that mark. Was hoping it would be reached before the game on Saturday night against Eddiewood.
