ok, i'm sure everyone has heard about it. Apparently the Hawks want less than 15,000 people to rock up to the match against Freo at Colonial this week because they don't want to pay Carlton a compensation fee of around (?) $40,000.
What I understand is that if there is a crowd of over 15,000 Carlton get the money because the game was originally supposed to be at Optus.
So as a result, the Hawks have publically announced that they want a crowd below 15,000.
This in my opinion, it totally unacceptable on Carlton's behalf. They are the most money hungry team in the competition by claiming this compensation.
Poor Hawthorn. They are in a catch 22 position. Maybe they'll get 14,999 people...

Maybe Hawthorn can swap supporters? If North supporters went EASY under 15,000

This is one of those ridiculous situations.

If Hawhtorn get 14,999, they will not pay a cent, but if they get 15,001 they will pay $40,000 as compensation.

Now, thet thing that irritates me is that the AFL and the Carlton Football club are run by grown men and women. Why then, does such a farcical situation present itself ?

Where is the law of common-sense ? Aren't grown me and womwn capable of using Common-sense.

Gees, I'd love to run the AFL. Some of these "stupid" contracts they have signed which are now coming back to bite them on the ass, are ridiculous.

Example. The contract to play 4 finals at the MCG. The AFL wants out of that contract. This begs the question...... why did they agree to the contract in the first place ?

Also, the contract to play 16 games at Optus Oval. To go back on the contract, means that the AFL has had to pay Carlton compensation for switching some of those 16 games to Colonial. The AFL wants out of the contract. This begs the question again .......... why did they agree to the contract in the first place ?

What else would you expect from a money grabbing team like Carlton.

Hawthorn supposedly have 26,000+ members, you could at least expect a crowd of 20,000 to turn up, even though I understand last year the crowd was about 14,000. For Hawthorns sake, I hope it is similar.

AFL, stop bowing down to Jack. They aren't worth it.

It's a sad reflection on what football is becoming.

And what right do the AFL have to force clubs like Hawthorn to have to pay compensation for moving their game from Optus Oval? As if Hawthorn, St Kilda and others wanted their games scheduled at the hole in the first place

I move house Saturday so I was going to be in trouble getting there anyway. Now it looks like I might even be doing the right thing by not going. Now there is a turn up

The only time a Hawks v Freo game got more than 14,000 plus was when poor old Jason retired (39,000) Therefore you'd think with the protest factor this could be the smallest crowd since fitzroy fans boycotted the Brisbane Bears game at optus in 1996.

Lets face it, freo hardly has any fans rushing to get in over here in melbourne.

What really stinks (and it's not the colonic irrigation again) is that Hawthorn have already compensated carlton for not playing home games there (after we moved to Waverley in 1991). We shouldn't have to do it again

PS I'll be going but I'll make sure they only count me once

Fibula (what a stupid name) Nobody likes a smartarse, and I should know. Why dont you grow up and get a AFL premiership or two?

PS F@#$ O*&

The Hawks should get a PICKET LINE up at CS and monitor the numbers.

That a club president should tell the supporters NOT to attend a game is THE MOST INSANE statement I've heard in football. Anyway, who is counting the numbers there ? CS always seems half empty ( isn't it meant to have a capacity of 50,000 ). Won't the ALF just say - 15,001 attended, where's the money ?

The AFL is disappearing up its own elementary orifice and I for one am not following it. Fancy believing Graeme Samuel. Fancy believing that these 'senior' officials have ANY NOTION of what is required. I just want to go to the footy with my family and friends, sit / stand together and enjoy the moment. It's NOT the theatre, it's football.

Am I being too hysterical !!!
