Hawks all set for a full rebuild.

Nothing wrong with that. Last time they did it they got Roughie and Bud.

Clarko finding things a bit different without the Lewis, Mitchell magnets, but I guess we all overrated coaches.

If Clarko was as good as the media make him out, Lewis/Mitchell = Mitchell/O'Meara.

sigh - big call from the Hawks.

Killing it.

The ruck market is pretty short after missing out on Preuss already. The only one I can think of being available right now is Phillips who is uncontracted at Essendon I believe. Replacing McEvoy with Phillips wouldn't be a smart move. Going into a season with Ceglar and Reeves as the only options is negligent.

Huge news.

This just in: "Hawks have s**t rucks and list"

Hawthorn accepting they are a bottom half side makes trade week dull. Supporters can look back on the glory days of 2013-15 and 2008 (and the 70s and 80s if old enough), meanwhile the rest of us have to reminisce about Jaeger O'Meara, Tom Scully and Chad Wingard.

C'mon Clarko/Wright. Do something that melts the D&T board again.

Don’t worry. Hawthorn will troll the competition by the end of the trade week deadline when they sign Adam Treloar and Tom Phillips on the cheap. :drunk::thumbsu:

It wouldn't be a troll to anyone but Hawk fans. Topping up a waning list with those players would be suicide. The clear path that most people can see for the Hawk list managers and coaches is to go to the draft for three years and re-assess at the end of that period.
I'm seeing a similar trajectory for Clarkson that Pagan took. Not looking good. Needs to re-invent his style.
C'mon Jeff, it's time to sack him.

Hartigan has filled a spot.

Fingers crossed we get Phillips across the line without much fuss and he fills a spot. Actually rate him as a good player and I couldn't be happier that we are actively seeking him out.

We tried to grab a ruckman and it didn't work so we'll just go in with Ceglar and McEvoy again. Do need help in this area next off season though.

We have a hole in our pressure forward area and our side is pretty vanilla throughout. Wouldn't mind looking at recently delisted saint Matt Parker. Could add X-factor we don't currently have on the list.

Certainly expecting us to be a bottom 4 side next season but I believe with a decent draft haul and the development of Worpel, Day, Scrimshaw, Maginness etc plus the return of Sicily that our chances of shooting back up quickly in 2022 is realistic.

Isnt Geelong topping up with 2 x 32 year olds ?

When already a very old list?

Phillips is 24. How is that a bad option for a team rebuilding?

That's the spirit. Then draft Jeremy Cameron to annoy Geelong.

Roos would do that. Not us.

The reality is that whether you like it or not, Geelong is in the window, Hawks are now years away. It's very obvious to neutral observers.
Draft a bunch of young kids together, build friendships and build your list that way. Get games and experience into them, and then revisit in a few years.

All rivalry aside. I would love to hit the draft we need it. Geelong have done really well topping up. Hawthorn have done the opposite

Years away. Like Richmond in 2016 needing a new coach and Dogs in 2015 who had a new coach, new captain, overpriced GWS player and no direction.

We may be years away. We may be right up there in 2022. Simple fact is noone knows.

We dont even know how good half the draftees will be because they havent played football in a year.

Both lists had a lot more talent then we do, both at the top end and from players 12 down. They just had to get that talent to put it together on the field. We are lacking the talent so we can’t put it together on the field.

Very different scenarios, just because some clubs turned it around quickly doesn’t mean that the groundwork hadn’t been layer for years previous to that. We don’t have the groundwork.

I agree.

Theoretically Hawks should be getting a rebuild, but also has such limited young talent coming through to do a proper rebuild.

Seems like a list that has been completely saturated and remained strong only due to exceptional coaching/game-plan.

Tom Phillips probably fits the ideal age bracket for them. Adam Treloar is only 2 months older than their star midfielder in Tom Mitchell, and 1 year older than Jaeger O'meara. I can see why the Hawks might want one last shot with this list. All of Treloar, Mitchell, Wingard, O'meara, Gunston will finish their careers around the same time, so in a way bringing in Treloar probably allows you to get the most out of your star players with still some fuel left in the tank.

Even with Phillips and treloar we are not even close to a flag. Would be woeful list management to attempt it. Pick 4 this year begins the rebuild this year. Happy for you guys to take Gunston for a future first and extras

Speaking of which, I firmly believe a midfield of Tom Mitchell (top 3 in clearances if fit), Jaeger O'meara (clearance specialist) and Treloar (7th in clearances this year) will make Hawks the #1 clearance side in the AFL regardless of who plays ruck for them.

So what are your plans for O'meara, Wingard, Mitchell then?

They still all have a few good years left each, surely you don't want them wasting away their final years when you can reignite your finals hopes, regardless of how unlikely that may be?
