they play each other in:
rd2
rd12

should this make any difference when selecting your squad :confused::confused:

i was thinking about Brad Sewell. a player who i think will average about 90. but playing Sydney lowers scores. my estimation would be about 20% (which means a player ave 90, would probably only score 72 vs Syd). and then i thought to myself, would i really want a player like this. he would probably only average 87 by rd12 instead of my expectation of 90.

Interesting thought. However, Sewell scored 44 in his only game against the Swans in 08, and still averaged 90 for the season, so it didn't slow him down too much. Neither of those two games are at the SCG so I wouldn't let it be a factor if I was considering Sewell.

2 reasons why Im not starting with Hodge;

  1. Shoulder surgery
  2. Plays Sydney 2ce by rd 12
Will pick him up around rd 14-15 when he hopefully bottoms out and one of my speculative picks is starting to go downhill...

bit off topic Tippaz but are you releasing a season preview this season? Always a great read and most around here appreciate the work you put in.

if it's in demand, i'll write one up.

there's so much info out there nowadays that i'm not sure if it will be much use, but if you like reading *stuff we already know* :p i'm happy to share my thoughts. i may even slip in a few jokes and make references to a few BigFooty personalities.

eg extract.
"hot prospect: Beau Waters had an interrupted season with injury in 08 only ave 67, after ave 78 in 07. i expect a fit Waters to return to gun status. however, Beau_Waters_4_PM from BigFooty says he's a doubt for rd1 and won't buy!!!......... this is a good enough reason to ignore." :D

Scoring 80 against Sydney aint gonna make him much cheaper champ. Averages above 80 last 3 times V Sydney.

Shoulder surgery will hardly effect a bloke like Hodge

The real question is if the Sydney effect will even exist in 2009.
Now, THAT is a good answer!

Seems to me, that the swans choking method MAY change in the next few years. Youngsters coming through (i hope?), retirements of key players (hall, barry, mickey o, kirk all due in next few years), roos may hand of reins to another coach too. Dont think 2009 will be the year though.

Trading out Adcock? I thought if you select him from the start, then you're predicting he will become a keeper?
(That would be my logic if I selected Adcock)
Thats why i said if everything is going my way. You pick players such as Adcock and Masten because you think they could become keepers and avg a good 85 or whatever the number. But by round 13 if your going okay with injuries than you can start to get rid of the players such as these. If you know what i mean.

Adcock would be one of the last players i trade out.

No it wont affect him at all, he will be the fittest player in the AFL come rd 1
This is actually a good call. If anything holds back Hodge it's that he isn't as fit as the top midfielders. With his shoulder surgery he has been doing more running than usual in training, and it's not like he's got a lot to learn skills-wise in the off-season.

To the hawks defence they were without a number of their good players and they played at ANZ stadium for the first time which i think had an impact..
Expect the next encounter to be different
