Richmond have the chance but may struggle next season. The Tigers need to get rid of the players like Stafford, Tivendale and other older players (big calls I know) . They havent't really started rebuilding fully or fully going for the premiership. Theyre caught in two minds and it looks like they wont be able to win a premiership until they play more of their younger guys/.
What a load of crap, Stafford is probably only going to stay on for one more year to give us ruck depth. Tivendale is every chance to go in the trade period. Chaffey is only holding his spot until one of our kids develop into a tagger. We've picked up 17 kids in the last 2 drafts, thats HALF an AFL side's senior list in only 2 years, plus whomever we select this year.
We aren't caught in two minds at all, we are developing in a different way to Hawthorn. Hawks are just throwing every kid they have into the deep end by selecting their kids in the senior side as soon as possible, however Richmond is letting the senior players play most of the games while letting our kids develop in the VFL. This doesn't mean we aren't rebuilding, it just means that we're rebuilding in a different way. Its debatable which way is better, I guess we'll find out in a few years, but there's plenty of evidence to suggest that playing kids too early will stunt their development.

There is no point just loading up your list with kids just for the sake of it. This years draft is said to be fairly weak, I know Greg Miller has said we'll probably only take 3 players. So why should we delist all our senior players when we'll just have to fill the list up with 4th, 5th & 6th round picks in a weak draft and have to give them a 2 year deal. Next year is the strong crop of kids we want to make room for, so we'll see a bigger clean out next year when there's the talent to fill the list up with. Our kids from the last two years will also be then starting to hit their 20s and will be playing a more prominent role in the side.

But I'm sure you won't pay any attention to anything I've just said.

Are there any players on the Hawks list that aren't going to be superstars?

Just for a bit of perspective, the Bulldogs only just clicked this year and the main players behind their resurgence were all drafted in 1999 & 2000, they've just played their 4th or 5th season. If you think the Hawks are going to be finalists in only 2 years, then you're dreaming.
The only reason it took 4 or 5 years for the bulldogs youngsters to shine is because Peter Rohde is a dud. Under Rocket Eade, the youngsters drafted from 4 or 5 years ago have been given a chance and have taken it. Rocket has also got the best out of the even yoinger draftees, with Cooney, Ray, Griff and the likes showing positive signs this year.

Hawthorn clicking in two years is possible, but it takes the right coach. I don't think Clarkson is the right coach to take Hawthorn to a premiership.

Maybe... Garry Lyon?

Why can't AC be a premiership coach? What are you the bloody expert? The same could have been said about grant thomas a few years ago!

It still can be. Thomas hasn't coached a premiership side just yet, and there are three other clubs that might have a say about this year yet (not that I don't take your point under consideration).

It's a curious thing that AFL footy is played by guys 22-23 on average - there's not a lot of difference between the median age of most playing groups.
Being a few months younger than the next team doesn't mean a lot as far as a team's future prospects go.

standard deviation data is the key. if i can be 'rsed, i might just produce said data.

and sorry for nitpicking, but you are probably referring to mean age (average) rather than median age (middle of the set of age values).

I reckon Hawthorn can be the next powerhouse team in the AFL with its youth policy allistair clarkson has bought believe to hes players. The players to watch in 2006 is:
Clinton Young = just has to work in the gym but superstar in the making
Jarrad Roughead = what can i say superstar in the making
Lance Franklin = superstar writen all over him
Robert Campbell = just needs game time superstar as well
Ruory Kirkby = rookie list player but ginuwine full forward
Jordon Lewis = superstar in the making
Chance Bateman = injury free can prove to the AFL what he can actually do
Josh Thurgood = Just needs gym time can be a key player down back 4 hawks
Brad Swell = Next Biggest Tagger in the AFL superstar
Lol! Seriously lol

Man that's funny, Sewell would go on to win a B&F, Bateman would be arguably the best winger in the AFL for a year or two, Clinton Young starred in a GF before he got injured at half time and became shit forever. Okay Thurgood and Kirkby are truly awful calls and Campbell had a degenerative knee problem we didn't know about, but allistair clarkson did indeed brought believe to us I guess? Lewis, Franklin and Roughead were still ridiculous calls back then to call them future superstars to casual watchers.

Isn't this the kind of thread that gets brought up after our premiership? Richmond lift your game.

Winner of the nostradamus award:
It`s shaping that way, not `06 , definetly `07/`08
Runners up:
I think we'll improve to be a finals side in two years.. powerhouse is a bit much.
I think our young list is extremely promisingly and exciting, but how can you predict how they will develop? I'm optimistic for sure, but powerhouse... not so sure.
