In a measure of toxicity between the club and its supporters over the last 25 years, the club would win that battle in a landslide.

Crows supporters are some of the most loyal sports fans in the world, given the sh*t this club has repeatedly served up.
I'm not disputing our loyalty! I'm pretty proud of how we still turn up and still care. Certainly, many of us deserve better than what the club's provided. But I don't think it's an especially controversial claim to say that responding so negatively to a depth small forward being selected to cover for a suspension that the social media admin has to urge people to refrain from abuse, when we're third on the ladder, isn't great.

I obviously have no idea what they did, but having had a little bit of experience with social media management they probably hid/deleted the worst of them.

I posted a comment on the AFC selection post (a simple one liner) on FB and it wasn’t a personal comment directed at Murphy but question directed to the selectors, as to why he was selected in front of others. It has since been deleted.

See your stuck on abuse.

The comments were overwhelmingly negative. Like you wouldn’t like to read it if you were Murphy. Which fits the “footballers are human too” line.

But personal abuse? I don’t think so

They might have been sensitive with the moderation. Again, I don't really know. It's a shame if legitimate opinions were censored.

A lot of players from that time aren't playing this time

Jones
Nankervis
Borlase
Crouch
Sholl
Cook
Schoenberg
Burgess
Laird in the midfield

The ins are

Curtin
Milera
Worrell
Rankine
Cumming
Neal-Bullen
Pedlar
Thilthorpe
Laird in defense
Thats half a starting 18. Massive difference in personnel.

Perhaps I'm fixated – but, prima facie, it doesn't feel like an especially unfair description of an accumulation of sentiment which caused the club social media admin to post a comment like that.

How is "you wouldn't want to read it if you were the player" meaningfully different to "abuse"?

Tangentially, I posted a similar sentiment on another social media site and Ben Keays' brother replied, saying he's had first-hand experience of abuse against players in the recent past and that it isn't a nice feeling.

It is a literally dumb selection which the coach has not explained why.

The coach/club need to explain the logic of selection and not the absolute crap Adam Kelly was sprouting.

This is a player who has not had his contract extended so why on earth give him games before others. This is a reasonable ask.

Well the player, like anyone, can choose to get off social media during the season.

Not really. Murphy is a pressure forward who's been selected to apply forward pressure, a weakness of ours, against a side who's biggest threat to us is defensive rebound. His selection will allow Rankine (and perhaps Rachele/Keays) to rotate through the middle more while still rolling with three talls. Murphy, for his many faults, is currently better at the specific role he's been asked to play tonight than any of the mooted alternatives, even though they (Draper, Taylor, Dowling) will all hopefully have better long-term AFL careers.

You have said that, the club or coach hasn’t.

You say he is a pressure forward, think you are dreaming. He runs around like a headless chook, getting in the way of our forwards etc.

And you are surmising.

You know what's easier than your bizarre suggestion that players get off social media? Not giving them so much abuse the club has to post a comment reminding us that footy players are people too.

Abuse is not the same as criticism

Nothing puts pressure on a side like getting 1 possession in the last qtr.
